A Simple Guide to Making an Autograph Book

So I am getting ready to go to back up plan of printing my own. I really really really don't want to do this but if I have to I can. I am going to go ahead and put everything in the word document and size it all up so I just have to print, cut and run to office depot on our last day before we leave if I need to. So my questions are: do you just print on the front side and all of the backs are blank white? or does anyone print both sides? How do you do this?

And how quickly did office depot bind them? Should I allow an extra day or two?

Artscow is in Hong Kong, and often takes 4-6 weeks to get your books to you. I think a backup plan is a good idea. :thumbsup2 I only printed my cards on one side, but some folks here have successfully printed them out on both sides of the page (I probably would have, too, if I had thought of it). If your margins are all lined up the same, and the cards are sized the same, you should be able to print them front and back. Do a couple of trials on regular paper in black and white mode and adjust as necessary before you print them in color.
Office Depot should be able to bind them on the same day you bring them in, as long as you bring them into the store in the morning. FedEx/Kinkos bound mine while I waited, but I went early in the day before they got busy. Good luck, and don't panic - either way you will have a cool autograph book. :goodvibes

Has anyone just made a memory book from Wal-greens?? They seem to be reasonably priced? There is a mothers day sale now....so I am thinking of just ordering with them.

I don't think that anyone here has posted any books done by Wal-greens. I have had many prints done there, and they have all come out just fine. You might want to post this question as a new thread. If the deal is good, I would say go for it! :goodvibes

Yes, I have had memory books made through Walgreens. I actually had one made last year after we came back from our Disney trip! I ordered it online, not through the store, and it seemed to arrive very quickly. Shipping was $6.99 for Standard USPS shipping (just checked their website & its still the same). It took about 3-4 business days to arrive (after 2 processing days, I think??) which I thought was pretty quick! I ordered the "Travel" design, 8.5x11 hardcover, Linen Metallic Gold cover, and it cost around $43 after I added additional pages. I can't remember exactly how many pages I had, but I think it was close to 40. I will get the exact number for you.

I also just noticed that under the Travel design, you have 9 backgrounds...last year I think I only had 3 or 4 to choose from! So there are definitely more options now.

Here's my advice...first of all, if you are making it online make sure to have your photographs already cropped, edited, etc before you upload them to Walgreens site. Its soooo much easier to edit the pics in a photo program instead of going through every single one on their site. It makes creating the book very easy! I really like their different page layouts too.

I use about a million different photo websites (Walgreens photo, Snapfish, Shutterfly, Kodak Gallery, etc). IMO, Walgreens site is just as user-friendly as the others but it just takes sooo much time to edit. I prefer going to my local store & editing the photos there (its quicker & easier to see on their large screen opposed to my laptop screen). If you have a good photo editing program on your home computer, as I said, edit all the photos & then upload them.

If you PM me your email address, I will email you some photos of the photobook that I made so you can get an idea of what yours will look like. I think it really turned out great. I've had other photo books made in the past & was very pleased with this one.

Please feel free to ask me if you have any other questions about it. I'd be happy to answer!

I don't know why I am having so much trouble finding an autograph card for him today. Can anyone lead me in the right direction?

I went ahead and took the plunge. I ordered the 8.5 x 11 Walgreens photo book . I used the 33% off coupon. The book I made had 36 pages with 4 autograph pictures per page except the first page. I was able to put in 141 autograph pages. The grand total with shipping/tax was $63 for 2 books. I am giving this to my niece and nephew as a birthday gift!

I'm almost embarrassed to ask this question because it seems so silly, but I truly want to know what others think. I put together an autograph book using Artscow. I know others have said they have used the retractable Sharpies due to the slightly slick surface pages. Do you use the fine point or the ultra fine point? The fine point to me is like a regular marker head, whereas the fine point is more like a pen. In the past, we've used a pen from WDW, the only difference was the barrel of the pen was larger in diameter than a normal ink pen. The Sharpies meet that criteria. The ultra fine point might be a tad bit smaller in diameter than the reg. fine point, so may be a little harder to grip for certain characters. I know the larger diameter helps the characters grip the pens better. I thought the regular fine point might get the tip too smushed after repeated signing and may not look as good as the fine point that looks more like a pen. As I'm typing this I'm realizing how far over the edge I've gone. When you start to vacilate over a pen, well, maybe I am planning and over thinking things just a little too much. At least I can laugh at myself.

OK, breathe! :rotfl2: A fine point retractable Sharpie works just fine, and all of the characters that sign can use it. I brought four different colors with me for variety, which worked out quite well. :goodvibes

Are those 6x4's then? I ordered mine on 6x4, but now wonder if they are too small. They are no smaller than the autograph book pages DD used last year, but I wonder if I have them bound into a booklet if it will be too bulky for gloved hands to hold. Unless I split them into 2 books. I know I could use a clipboard, but I can just see some slipping out in the backpack and getting dog-eared on the corners. Just wondered what all the experts do. :goodvibes

Don't worry - 4x6 is a good size for your autograph book, but I wouldn't go any smaller. I had 130 pages in my autograph book, and the characters had no problems handling it. :goodvibes

Our plan is to keep the autograph pages (4x6) in a flat tupperware container. When we find a character we will take the appropriate page out and use the container as a backing for them to sign the page. Then the page goes into the bottom of the pile until we get back to the hotel when it goes into a safer place :)

This gives us the ability to scan and upload to make a photo book online or put them into a photo album after. If any get smeared or messed up then we can use a replacement one and it wont effect the final product.

Thank you so much. That's a relief! I was having a minor wobble  about it when I saw all the posters who were doing 5x7 and even bigger.
