Thanks all. So i guess the biggie is making sure i have enough points.
Oh, we originally were thinking of doing a dvc resale but have heard that Disney clamped down on these and that they have limited what you can use the points for (ie, cant use for disney cruise line, rci, etc). is that the case? Obviously want to get the most for the points.
thanks again all.
"Under the new policy, Members who purchase from anyone other than Disney Vacation Development, Inc., on or after March 21, 2011, will not be eligible to use those Vacation Points to make reservations within the Concierge Collection, the Disney Collection or the Adventurer Collection. Those Vacation Points will instead be valid only for reservations at Disney Vacation Club resorts, as well as for RCI® exchanges, Club Cordial and Club Intrawest."
You can still use them for RCI exchanges, club cordial & club intrawest, but like others have stated, not always a great value. As for as the cruise, even if you buy direct & have the option to use points, it is not always easy to get a reservation because they book up fast.
I just called DVC recently to ask what the currect price for BLT was & the guide stated $150 but they are offering points at $140 as a current incentive. I said, "okay thats a little steep, I guess we'll look at resale" and the guide I spoke to said, "whoa now you know those are stripped down contracts right?" We use to own SSR & we never used the points for the cruise, concierge or adventurer collection so I'm not concerned about the inability to continue doing so, but if that is your interest then you should look at buying direct.
