I know that I am postiing on the wrong board, but this is the board that I have been a part of for the past year, and I know that there are so many caring people here, with great ideas.
I just found out that one of my co-worker niece is going to WDW with her family next wednesday. She is 7 years old and was dignosed with leukemia when she was 3, she has had 2 bone marrow transplants (her brother was the donor) and they just found out that it did not take. She really wants to go to WDW, and they do not have time to wait for make a whish, it apparently take 6 to 8 weeks to get approved, and she is getting weak really quickly. They have a room at the All Stars, and they want to make some character meals, they are having problems with that as it is all booked.
Can anyone give me any idea on what they could do to make the stay more enjoyable. Can you still get special passes so that they do not have to wait in line, is there a number that I could call, to try to get some of the reservations for character interation.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks.

How sad. Have you tried calling "Give Kids The World"? They have a web site. Perhaps because the family doesn't need the entire trip taken care of, just some services, they could help a little.

As far as character meals, keep trying every day for cancellations. If thye can be flexible about which one they get, they might just get lucky.

I **MIGHT** be cancelling the Epcot Princess Breakfast on 2/24. It's a booking for five. I will not know until 2/22. If I decide to cancel, maybe we could work something out for them to pick up the PS.

How many are in the family? How long are they there for? Maybe with that info we can all provide a little more assitance.

Is the little girl going to be in a wheelchair? But I believe that if she is, you can go to guest services and you will be able to go to a special entrance that allows you to skip the lines.

I've never done this, but I think it is correct. If I'm wrong on this, someone please correct me.

I will keep this little girl and her family in my prayers.

There will be 5 in the family, the parents, and 3 kids, the youngest one is just a baby.
Thanks for the suggestions.
I am so proud of my girls, they each had a $10 mickey dollar and they gave them to the 5 and 7 year old....

More Info please witch one is it that they would like to get into ??? when ??? should be able to get into something somewhere we took a party of 6 in jan and got into crystal palace for breakfast ... some times if u call the place directly
instead of using priorty seating it ihelps.........

Actually most of the lines have been reconfigured so that wheelchair guests wait in queue with everyone else. At the few rides that they don't do this, one parent would go to the seperate queue area with the girl, the other would wait in line with the other kids. When the ones in the regular line get to the front, the wheelchair guest and their parent would board with them.

I don't know if it still works the same...its been many years since I went with a sick child but we went down on a Make a Wish trip and they gave us make a wish shirts and while we were waiting in the line of the first ride a cast memeber pulled us out and told us that while we were there we should go to the cast member in the front of the ride and they would get us right on....it really was a nice thing but I don't even know if they do that anymore...there are so many cancer kids now that they may have had to stop doing that.

Oh Aprilgail I hope that's not the case.
Then again, with the scores of rude and inconsiderate people I've seen over the last few trips, I can imagine there are people that just complain about everything.

christinou, good luck and pixie dust wish's to your co-worker's family on their trip.

Did they mention the situation to the CM when they were trying to make ressies? I would think mentioning that would make the wheels turn for them. Also- they could try last minute ressies - people do cancel. You could get on the phone and call and tell them about the situation and ask what they can do to help this happen. I'd be really surprised if there was no help. Please let us know what happens.

There is a special card they can get from guest services to get in a special waiting area. It is for people with disabilities (non-apparent disabilities as well). I am sure she will qualify. Have her bring a Dr's note to guest services. Pop over to the DISabilities board and they will give you all the info you need.

Sorry, I forgot about the character dining. Try for Crystal Palace for Lunch or Dinner, Garden Grill for ICe Cream social, lunch or dinner, and if you need help, send me a PM with specific details and I will make calls for them. Off times (early/late seatings) are probably all they might be able to get. Also, if it is a big party, try brekiing into 2 groups.

Y&BC has a wonderful Character breakfast they could try- it's at Cape May- did they try that?

They are leaving next Wednesday for I beleive a week.
Thank you so much for all of the suggestions, I am waiting for my co-worker to call back, to give her all of the great ideas.
Everybody is really shaken up.....

Please keep us posted on how this comes out. My heart breaks for another family tohave to go through this.

Prayers and pixie dust to the ill child and her family.

Christine, I am so sorry to hear of this little child - can you please call me at 800-950-4559 sometime before 11am Sunday or call me Monday morn - I really would appreciate it - if you can't phone, can you email me at snelsonbrown@aol.com with all the particulars? Thanks a bunch.
I will say a special prayer for this little one.
Much love
always
Shirley

Christine,

Please take Shirley up on her offer of a phone call. She can do some amazing things and is as nice as can be. She is doing a basket for the boys for this trip. She is a sweetheart and will do everything she can to help.

Are you members of DVC? That might be another option if nothing else works or let me know and I will try calling.

See you in a few days.

As I mentioned in my pm..call the hotel directly (or if you feel uncomfortable doing it yourself just post the family last name and check in date and they will get many calls from people on the board) If you make them aware of the situation I am sure there are several things they can do to make this trip special. I don't know if allstars has a Mickey wake up call but if they do the child would get a kick out of that. Sorry I can't be of more help as we are leaving ourselves today but pm me again when I get back and I will see what I can do after the fact. Take care.

I really appreciate all of the concern and suggestion, I did send an e.mail to Shirley, (I called to early and could reach her). I talked to the family again this morning, and they really are not asking for anything, they just want their little girl to have a magical time....l
