A Short Word on Strollers

I have been to Disney at least 9 times thru the years and have never had a problem with strollers, wheel chairs etc. but we do not go during crowded times and that may be why.

Yes::tongue: :sunny::wave2:

I'm making a note to pack shin splints or maybe chapps to protect my shins and calves. And steel-toed shoes. :)

Kidding. :p ;) (I think)

I have actually fallen over more errant toddlers in my life than been hit by strollers.

I like it when people have their kids in strollers, then they aren't crying and running around and climbing all over stuff.

We have to share this world with other people, and if you let little stuff bother you, you will not enjoy life. Just ignore it and have fun and don't let the rude people intrude on your experience.

They do have stroller races - I've seen a few at MK. Don't they call it "The Rush To Dumbo"? :teeth:

Schmeck, who doesn't remember any stroller accidents from 4 trips to the World

No disykat you are not. We've been there 3 times in 4 years, and I've never had any kind of bad experience with anyone pushing a stroller. We usually go in Jan or Feb and not during real busy times, maybe that's why. I've never really given the strollers a second thought.

It is certainly better than the alternative. Can you imagine all of the toddlers running around and being knocked over? Now that is a lot more serious than being bumped into by a stroller.
I couldn't have said it better myself. My child stays in the stroller to keep her safe. I don't know how many times our stroller has been bumped, pushed etc. But thankfully she was strapped in and I had a good hold on it so it would not fall over. We try not to be in the mad rush out of the park after fireworks etc because of that very reason.

No problems here either. They are part of life anywhere.

I've never been hit by a stroller or ECV or anything on wheels at WDW.

Personally, I think that anyone who says that strollers shouldn't be allowed in the parks has some growing up of his/her own to do. It's not a practical plan. Children thrive when exposed to lots of different experiences. Plus, what about families with multiple children? We only have one right now with one more on the way, but we plan to have about 4 or 5, all pretty close together. I think my oldest will be in Jr High before I don't have any in a stroller.

I've never been attacked by a stroller at WDW. We've had two incidents where our feet were run over by ECVs though!

I try to be a very careful stroller driver...but the number of WALKING pedestrian that just come to a complete stop directly in front of me without any warning...they need to learn the basic of physics.....a rolling object needs stopping room.....

Yes, there are stroller drivers that don't watch what they are doing but there are just as many walkers out there who are very inconsiderate....

LOL, can you just see it? Or imagine the pace we would all be walking at? By the time we made it up Main St, we would have to turn around since it would take us to closing time to get back down. :teeth:

Please do realize that ECV's are difficult to control in a crowd and can't be stopped on a dime. Also, like another poster pointed out, many people rent them and aren't really familiar with driving them. Kind of like how you feel when you drive a rent car--you just don't quite have the feel of it like your own car. I tell my children to be careful of ECV's for the reasons I just said. On our recent trip we were watching the parade at MGM. My six-year old son sat right next to a lady in an ECV. I knew he was too close to her for her to see him. I told him to move away and don't get too close to that lady. Well, the way I said it just came out wrong. It sounded like I thought she was something undesirable and wanted to keep my son away from her when actually I was just trying to be considerate of her. The look on her face told me she misinterpreted it. I felt so bad but couldn't say anything without making things worse. Hope I didn't ruin her day. But those darned things are hard to manuveur and people should try to stay out of their paths (and they should learn how to drive them better)

Vhoffman being unfamiliar with a vehicle is no excuse for running over someone's foot. If they haven't gotten the hang of it then they should practice a bit before going out in the throngs of people. If they cannot handle one then please have someone wheel them in a chair. BTW, both times we've had our feet run over it was from an ECV backing up! They were not watching where they were going. They just decided to back up and ran right over our feet!

When dd was not in the stroller, she was pushed, shoved, and ignored by adults who just wouldn't slow down and look down to see that someone was in front of them. We were boarding the train on Main St at MK and my dd was going through the turnstile, an older lady, pushed her, knocked my dd's head on the turnstile and never looked back. So I felt it necessary to have a stroller so I wouldn't have to worry about dd getting injured. So it is not a matter of strollers. It is a matter of rude people who need to pay attention to where they are going.

I really have not had many problems with people pushing strollers.

I have accidently bumped people on a rare occasion but its almost always because the pedestrian steps in front of me. Most of the time they glare at you. Well, I want to say, If you hadn't literally JUMPED in front of me, trying to get ahead of me and then stopped I never would have bumped you. I always apologise even if its the other persons fault and I cetainly never let my older one push a stroller when its busy.

My youngest likes to walk and I literally have to stuff him into the stroller, but when we are moving long distances he just likes to wander too much and people pay no attention what so ever to little ones and he gets run over all the time by adults who dont look down. He also likes to throw himself in front of moving objects and goose unsuspecting people as he walks around so hes safer in the stroller.

YOu must be.

No, she isn't.

My advice: don't go to Disney if you have issues with kids or anyone pushing strollers (me, 32 and still a kid), wheelchairs or people riding motorized scooters. I am SURE none of these accidents are happening intentionally. If you think it is someone's intention to hurt other people, WOW.

No you are not.

I have had bad expereinces with people who think that kids in strollers aren't as important as themselves or their kids however.

Best example. Standing right at the rope watching TON 2 1/2 DD is in her stroller. 2 women and 2 girls (about 11 or so) come up just as the parade is beginning (could hear but not see at this point). One of the women tells the girls to go in front of DD's stroller. CM comes along and tells them to move. Girls move back to the women. As soon as CM is out if sight women tells girls to move in front on DD again. Again CM tells them to move. The 3rd time this happens the lady decides to move DD's stroller and says "she's too little to watch anyway". We try to ignore her and DH grabs DD and holds her. Next thing we know this woman is going through the stuff in our stroller. Hey what have you got in here anyway, boy it stinks" (BTW we did not have anything that stunk including DD). The only stinky thing I smelled was her alcohol breath. It every ounce of willpower I had to not knock her on her butt.

I've been hit by quite a few strollers in my life...at the mall, at disney...it's just a fact of life and I deal with it. An accident is an accident. (But i'll get you all back when I have kids! :) )

But those that use the double-wide strollers for battering rams...well, that's a whole other story.

Maybe disney should smarten up and get rid of the side-by-side double strollers and go with the front/back double stroller. (This would be VERY helpful especially in AK where the paths aren't that big)

Maybe those strollers would be easier to control as well?
