We're recently back from a wonderful week in a SSR studio, but I wanted to share a funny story about one unpleasant moment at the resort.
For anyone who has stayed in a studio, you know they don't leave a lot of room between the bed and the wall. It can't be more than a foot, if that much. My side of the bed happened to be the wall side. There's an outlet on this wall near the foot of the bed, and I always plug an extension cord in here to power the CPAP machine I use when I sleep. (There's never a spare outlet near the head of the bed.)
We're accustomed to a king sized bed at home, so the queen in a studio is always a little cramped. (I'm willing to make the compromise for the extra time at WDW, though.) I tend to hug the very edge of the bed all night, because I'm Pooh sized and there isn't a lot of room to spare. I also don't like the SSR bedspreads because they're so heavy. I usually push it aside from my side of the bed. They also make the sheets so tight that I don't like being under those, either. (They feel like they're pinning my feet down.) I sleep on top of the sheets using the spare blanket from the closet as a cover.
Ok, so that's lot's of set up to get to the punch line...
One night, I was awakened from a sound sleep, thinking someone was punching me or something. I lay there for the longest time trying to figure out what had happened. Apparently, I'd stuck my leg out from under the blanket and rested my toe on top of the extension cord. The plug wiggled out just enough to expose the prongs and Zap! I got a 110 volt 60 Hz wake up call.
It was not a magical moment.
