A Sensible Dinner - Pearlieq's Journal

9/17/05 - Weigh In

316.0 - Down 2lbs from last week! :cool1:

Hopefully I can begin to make actual progress again next week! I'm going to be doing dual weigh ins--one for myself on Sat. and one for biggest loser on Wed. AM (or is it supposed to be Tuesday?)

Goals for the Week:

1.) Exercise: Counting the two days of running around at the shelter, I got 3 days of exercise this week. The cold and pre-TOM depression really sidelined me for most of the week. Luckily both have passed and I'm ready to tackle this again. I'm shooting for 4 this week - 2 walks and 2 Curves

2.) DH Gone. As some of you may have seen, I tend to spiral out sometimes when DH is gone. He leaves Sun morning and won't be back until Wednesday afternoon. My goals is to eat recognizable meals (not just willy-nilly because he isn't there to kind of set the schedule) and to do something with myself other than sitting around w/my laptop and the TV. I need to make sure to see friends, exercise, and get out, even if it's just to the library or something. Anything to stay connected to the land of the living.

9/17/05

It's such a beautiful morning! I'm so happy to get this day to share with DH. It will be busy between Grandma's party and couples bunco, but busy is fun. I think we're going to head out pretty soon here and grab some breakfast together. Not sure how many vegan options there will be, but I'll do the best I can.

10:30am

--1/3 large bowl oatmeal w/brown sugar
--1 banana
--1 side fried potatoes

Well, vegan options for breakfast were very limited. What kind of disappointed me was that we went to this restaurant that I used to love that prided itself on healhty, fresh food and they had almost no veggie options! There wasn't a single lunch entree that was vegetarian as-is, and most would have to have been seriously deconstructed before being vegan. The potatoes were good, but I doubt we'll make the trek again.

1:30pm

--1 cup pasta salad (plus 1/2 cup of "tasting" during the morning)
--2/3 cup fruit salad
--1 1/2 low fat/low sugar blueberry muffin
--1/3 cup marinated organic mozzarella and tomatoes
--7 small crostini
--1 slice homemade dutch apple pie

My grandma's party was really nice. She brought a friend who was really a scream! We had such a good time talking with her. Luckily my aunt, who is usually in charge of these shindigs, is like minded on the veggie/compassionate living thing, so there were lots of options. She made the marinated mozarella and tomatoes and it was awesome! She had a friend make the apple pie. The thing was, I didn't really enjoy it, but I just kept eating it, mostly because it was there and because it was something I could eat. I had to deal with a lot of "no" today between the yummy breakfast treats and some of the party foods, and I think I was almost being defiant by finishing the pie, if that makes any sense. It's not really a big deal--it was a reasonable piece and looked to be pretty healthy. I just need to work on being able to let go of food.

4:45pm

--another few "tastes" of pasta salad
--1 string cheese

Well, we've got a little while to relax before bunco. I might go for a walk--not sure yet. I'm just bringing leftover pasta salad, but I'm also probably going to have a couple of veggie burgers before I go. There will probably be fresh fruits/veggies I can nibble on at the party, but I might as well go in with a decent meal in my stomach!

6:45pm

--2 boca burgers, no cheese
--1 small tomato
--1 apple

8:40pm

--1/2 cup pasta salad
--5 tortilla chips
--2 T fresh salsa

Oh my goodness this salsa was great! It was fresh and homemade by one of the guys at the couples bunco. DH was hot tonight! He threw 24 buncos during the evening! (The "most buncos" winner for a 24 round game usually has around 15 or so.) I almost won last bunco, but someone else threw one right at the buzzer. Oh well! DH more than won our entry money back. It was a fun night.

He's puttering around now trying to get ready to leave. I'm going to fix him breakfast in the morning and then he leaves around 9:30. One of my girlfriends is coming over around 11 and we're going shopping. I'm down to one pair of pants that actually fits and one that kinda fits. All the rest are maddeningly too big! Here's hoping I can find something comfortable. A top or two would not hurt either, but we'll see what's on sale. I'm really looking forward to the Emmys tomorrow night. I'm an awards-show junkie. I'm not too vested in many of the contests, but I do hope Hugh Laurie wins. He is really fantastic in House.

Looking forward for the week I'm going to try to get a lot of work done on Monday so I can get ahead of schedule. If I have time later that night I might go to the library for a while. I miss reading--I need some new books. I think I might take myself to the movies on Tuesday night, but I haven't decided what to see yet. Wednesday is my birthday. I think I'm going to take the day off of work. I know I'm meeting my mom for lunch that day, and then DH will be home around supper time! Bunco is Thursday, I think we may try to get a football game Friday (we tried this week but two of the three schools were Away and the other had Homecoming which is too crazy for me in my old age), and then Saturday my mom's taking me out to Stir Crazy for a late celebration. Time flies!

Congrats on the loss! 2 lbs in one week is a big accomplishment in my book!

Have fun with your DH today before he leaves town. I know, it's tempting when it's just you at home to veg out and do nothing. Great that you've got a plan.

:)

Two more pounds gone!! YEAH!!

Sounds like you have a fun day planned. ENJOY!!!

Have a great weekend!

Congrats on those two pounds Pearlieq!!!
The Red Team's here for you if you feel like you're getting off track while your DH is gone!!!! :)

Hope that you have a great last day with him and found some good vegan breakfast options!! :)

Mike :goodvibes

Good morning, Pearlieq!

Looks like you had a great day yesterday and Congrats on getting that scale back down. Now it's time to push forward! Which I bet will be quite easy to do once you get some new clothes and toss the Too Bigs. I have another pile to go out and it just feels to good to walk around in some new clothes! A great motivator. Remember the image in the mirror when you went to dinner..........you can do this!

I'm glad to see that you have plans to get out of the house while your DH is gone. That will make a big difference in how your fare. Gotta build new healthy habits and that includes doing some things you enjoy when he is doing business.

Hope you have a wonderful day! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

9/18/05

8:45am

--3 eggs, scrambled
--1/2 whole wheat bagel
--1/2 T neufchatel cheese
--2 tiny Clemintines

:sad1: I saw DH off this morning. I know he'll be back in just a couple of days, but it's still no fun. Luckily my friend is coming soon and we'll have lots of fun at the mall to distract me. Hopefully I stay busy enough over the next several days for me not to miss him too much!

12:30pm

--1 bowl tomato lentil soup
--1/2 fandango salad, no cheese
--1 sourdough roll

I was dying for lunch! We got some beginning shopping done. It was kind of a strange experience in that I had to be choosy at what I bought. I'm used to having very, very limited choices. Now that I'm smaller there's a lot more to choose from and I have to get myself to understand that I don't really need all 52 red shirts, and that there will probably be more red shirts next time. I'm really trying to break out of the standard colors I pick--pink, purple, and black. I need to explore more options!

Shopping tally so far: one pair of jeans that fit! One black T-shirt with an overlapping V-neck (great sale!) and one forest green button down ribbed top.

3:30pm

--1 small passionfruit iced tea

We had to stop for a drink break after some more serious shopping. We didn't do as well at Lane Bryant--ours is trying to go very trendy and upscale and it just really isn't working for me. Plus there was almost nothing on sale. I did take a liking to the black sweater that's got a cut out and runched top. It was really cute, but it wasn't on sale and I don't pay retail. I hemmed and hawed about it for a while, then my friend surprised me by grabbing it an declaring it a birthday present! That was very kind of her, only it kind of obligates me to reciprocate for her birthday in a few weeks when we usually just exchange cards. I mean, it was a very nice gesture, but not really any savings, if that makes any sense.

While we were at Lane Bryant we ran into this girl we knew from high school who was very stuck-up, self important, mean, and domineering. This is incredibly petty and uncharitable, but it was very gratifying to see that she looked terrible and seemed to be bending over backwards to try to make us think she was very, very important. What a difference 10 years makes! It's nice to have some perspective on the conversation and nice to see maybe a little karmic justice playing out.

Shopping tally so far: One very cute, stylish black sweater.

6:45pm

--2 chick'n patties
--1 cup low fat pasta salad

I was so, so, so hungry when I got home! I meant to make pasta but I just knew I wouldn't make it.

I'm happily settled and watching the Emmys. I must say we're three awards into it and not one of them was as predicted! Unfortunatley things seem to skewing to the unadventurous and predicatble. Oh well. The show itself is a little slow in starting, but I'm still having a good time.

I'm going to set the DVR and run out to get myself a sweet treat!

8:45pm

--1 carton light chocolate brownie ice cream
--raspberry sauce

OK, I still need to work on the whole "we don't eat the whole carton" thing with my ice cream, but at least I got the light, and I have more than enough calories to asbsorb it today. I also bought a carton of soy ice cream to try. I really need to ditch the raspberry sauce. It's tasty but very, very high calorie. Isn't the ice cream enough on it's own?

10:00pm

--1/2 cheese pizza

Amazingly enough I was still hungry! I probably could have made do with a sandwich or something, but this was a nice treat. I will admit to standing over the pizza when it was delivered and thinking "It's all mine! Mine! Mine! Mine!" And none of that yucky pepperoni creeping over to my side! This was a bit of a splurge, but I don't feel it kicking me on a downward spiral or anything like that.

So, the Emmys. They were kind of a snooze--I suppose the opening number foreshadowed that. There were parts that were a lot of fun. I always love the bits where they announce the comedy writing nominees--it's so funny to see the skits they come up with! Ellen did OK--she really wasn't all that visible, but she wasn't actively bad either. The Emmy Idol thing was fun and interesting in it's novelty. I think they did a good job keeping it short and I thought Donald Trump was hilarious and the Star Trek theme was funny as well!

As for the winners, there were some real head-scratchers in there. I don't really care about the TV movie/mini-series winners as I almost never watch those. I was pretty bummed to see Hugh Laurie get robbed, but I wonder if it's possible he and Kiefer Sutherland split the vote and let James Spader come out on top. I don't have anything against James Spader, but I'm a big fan of House and would really have liked to see him get that award. Oh well. They at least picked up a writing award for "Three Stories" which was an incredible episode. I was very pleased to see Felicity Huffman win, as she's really a very talented actress and usually goes unrecognized. It was cute to see her shock as they read her name--no one saw that coming and she practically jumped when she heard it! As for the big prized, I'm fine with Lost winning--it seemed deserving. Everybody Loves Raymond was a silly choice, though. I couldn't stand the show--I found it to be boring, self-indulgent dreck. Good riddance!

Hooray for the mall!!! Have fun with your friend and try to stay busy.

Happy Sunday :)

Hi!!!!

I hope you had a great time at the mall. That always takes my mind off my DH when he leaves for out of town.

Hope you had a great weekend! Keep up the great work

Hi Pearlieq,

Glad you had a good time shopping! And Yay for having lots of options! hehe!
What'd you think of the Emmys? I saw bits & pieces. Seemed like a pretty boring show as far as the winners went. I liked the Emmy Idol bits and Ellen hosting.

Hope that you have a great Monday!
Mike :goodvibes

Good morning, Pearlieq!

I am so glad that you had fun shopping. It is always nice to have a larger selection and walk home with some new things.

Keep up the great job of finding things to do and staying busy! If you get too bored you can just jump on the interstate and come for a short visit. ;)

Have a great day! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

9/19/05

9:00am

--leftover pizza!

Breakfast of champions! Of course, after this it's back to sensible choices and fruits/veggies!

Thanks for the offer, Lesli, but don't be suprised if you find me at your doorstep at 2:30 in the morning claiming that the boogeyman is going to get me! I don't sleep well alone. I actually resorted to NyQuil last night as I tossed and turned and snuffled for over an hour after I went to bed. Weren't this morning's thunderstorms something? It looks like they've blown over us now, but it was sure an interesting storm!

11:30am

--1 bowl panda puffs
--1 cup pasta salad

2:30pm

--2 chick'n patty sandwiches
--tater tots!

5:30pm

--2 graham crackers
--1/2 carton soy ice cream

I actually kind of like the soy ice cream. It's not very creamy, but it has a satisfying chocolate taste. Plus, there's a significant reduction in calories, so even if I oops and eat the whole carton (which I did NOT do today) it's under the 500 calorie mark, which I can usually asborb when I'm behaving myself.

9:00pm

--1 box organic, whole wheat macaroni & cheese

This was...meh. I really should have stopped eating it but I didn't.

Sounds like you had a great time shopping! The sweater must've looked great on you for your friend to snap it up like that. By the way, QT didn't have stitches that needed to be taken out - they were the kind that dissolved. Thankfully, because she probably would have picked at them! Have a great evening & enjoy your alone time.

Hi Pearlieq,

Glad you found a yummy treat in the soy ice cream that is not bad on the waistline! I just wanted to come by and send you goodvibes as we are on the eve of the first Biggest Loser weigh in! Go Red Team!

Have a great day tomorrow!

9/20/05

I haven't eaten yet. I'm not hungry and not much appeals to me. I'll go get some yogurt later, maybe. I almost feel like my cold is coming back a little bit. I've got congestion and a bit more of a cough. Hopefully it doesn't materialize into anything else! My goals for today are to get as much work as possible done and to get to Curves. I'm still thinking of taking myself to the movies tonight--I took the day off of work tomorrow so I don't need to worry about getting in early. I haven't decided what to see yet, though...

9:45am

--1 cup lowfat yogurt
--3 kiwis chopped
--1/2 cup rocks and twigs

Yummy! I really enjoyed this and it was great to use up the kiwis! I might do this again tomorrow...

12:30pm

--3 low carb tortillas
--1 cup chicken breast
--1/3 cup 2% cheddar
--2 small tomatoes

These little rollups sounded very tasty, and I'm getting plenty hungry!!!

3:30 - 5:30pm

--2 graham crackers
--the rest of the soy ice cream
--raspberry sauce (after which I threw the rest OUT!)
--1 whole wheat bagel w/margarine and jam
--a few baked tortilla chips

I got a little snacky this afternoon, but compared to the past, I didn't do too much damage this time.

6:45pm

--1 side salad w/ranch
--1 grilled cheese w/fries
--1/2 brownie sundae

I didn't wind up at the movies toinght. Instead I went to the outlet mall with one of my friends. It was very nice to see her--we haven't seen as much of each other lately since she stopped going to Curves. It was a fun evening, but I probably should have skipped the dessert, especially because I bought myself one of those giant caramel apples at Rocky Mountain

8:30pm

--1 giant caramel apple, minus most of the apple.

I'm such brat. I wound up eating just the caramel and chocolate from the outside of the apple, leaving anything with redeeming nutrional value behind. It still was yummy, but that's enough for tonight.

Tomorrow's going to be a very fun day. I'm going to sleep in a bit, then shower and do a bit of prettying up. Then I'm going to run out and get my brows done before meeting my mom for lunch. We're going to try an Indian restaurant near her office, so I'm sure there will be tons of veggie food and lots of yummy naan! After lunch I've got an appointment at a really nice nail school to get a manicure and pedicure. After that I'll be on my way home where hopefully DH will be back! As for the evening, it's up to him!

I have other fun news--I'm pretty sure we're going to be going to Vegas next month! DH has a supplier that really wants him to come to their convention, so they're comping his registration. We'll either be at Mandalay Bay or Luxor--either one is fine with me. I'm just excited!

Good morning, Pearlieq! :sunny:

Congrats on the ice cream control. That must feel really good! Don't forget to do your weigh in tonight for the Red team. All my friends are on the Red team. Oh well, I am still cheering you guys on.

I hope you have a great day getting your work done and get a chance to catch a movie or just do something else fun!

Have a good one. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Hi!!! Way to go on the ice cream. That is my weakness!!!!! Good job!!!!

Hope you are having a great Tuesday! Keep it up!

hihi, your doing great so far today!

Eat an orange!, vitamin C is good for you and might help with the cold! Just not tangerine or mandarin oranges, my mom's always saying that they'll give me phlegm if i eat too many. oO

Hope you watch a great movie tonight, and get lots and lots of rest. And water. *snuggles*

Feel better!

Hi pearlieq!

I'm sorry to hear that you feel like your cold is coming back. :( Sending some extra-strength, healing :wizard: your way!

Hope you get a chance to catch a movie and relax this evening. :goodvibes Take care!

Hi, Pearlieq! Hope you are feeling better and that the only reason you haven't posted is because you did something fun! Just think, by this time tomorrow DH will be home! Enjoy your evening!
