This is going to make you so MAD!

Think of three words ending in gry. Angry and hungry are two of them. There are only three words in "the English language." What is the third word? Everyone knows what the third word means, and everyone uses it every day. And if you have listened very carefully, I have already told you what the third word is. What is it?

Oh yuck...this is so hard and there are like a million answers...try googling it.

You've worded the riddle a little awkwardly for the actual answer to be clear. But I do know it. (Don't want to spoil it for anyone)

this is how it was given to me so i didn't word it i just copied it :teeth:
but i edited to make more sense
it is kinda right in your face when you figure it out

The answer is "Language". It's not a riddle but more of a trick question. I did not google the answer either

Here is a riddle for you.

John has an apple stand. Mary went to the apple stand and bought exaclty 1/2 of john's apples plus 1/2 of 1 apple. Sue went to john's store and bought exactly 1/2 of john's remaining apples plus 1/2 of 1 apple. Betty went to John's store and bought exactly 1/2 of john's remaining apples plus 1/2 of 1 apple. John had no more apples left after this. John started with only whole apples, no halves and never cut an apple or split an apple. How many apples did john have when he started?

There is an answer to this. It took me some time to figure it out but I got it. Dont' google it

How can it be language.

"I have already told you what the third word is. What is it?" The third word in the first sentence is three.

I see it now. The OP had "the English language" in quotes. I still stand by that my answer works too.

The question isn't asked until after the sentence with "The English Language", therefore that's the sentence it's asking about. :)

Hmmm, I hear what you're saying but based on the rest of the clues I'm thinking its language too.

John has an apple stand. Mary went to the apple stand and bought exaclty 1/2 of joh's apples plus 1/2 of 1 apple. Sue went to john's store and bought exactly 1/2 of joh's remaining apples plus 1/2 of 1 apple. Betty went to John's store and bought exactly 1/2 of john's remaining apples plus 1/2 of 1 apple. John started with only whole apples, no halves and never cut an apple or split an apple. How many apples did john have when he started?

From the information you've given, there is no way to know how many he started with.

John has to have an apple at the end.

Originally John has 15 apples
Mary buys 8 apples
Sue buys 4 apples
Betty buys 2 apples
That leaves John with 1 apple

Ooooooooooooooo! I actually GOT this one!

agnes!

Originally John has 11 apples
Mary buys 7 apples
Sue buys 4 apples
Betty buys 1 apple
That leaves John with no apple

1/2(11)+1/2=6
1/2(11-6)+1/2=3
1/2(11-6-3)+1/2=1 1/2 <=but there can't be a cut apple so I don't think this works.

Mathematically, I keep coming up with 3, but that doesn't seem to work for Betty and her 1/2 apple.
John starts with 3
Mary buys 2
Sue buys 1
Betty buys 0
