The location:
Nice. It's tucked behind Denny's. So you almost miss it. Easy walk to the parks. But it's off Harbor so none of the rooms have the associated noise. There is no view of the parks or of anything but the parking lot outside the room. One Draw back. You have to walk past the time share goons that set up shop in front of the Park Vue. Dunno whether they are there with permission of the Park Vue or not but they were always there and most were obnoxious. I don't know why they kept choosing me to be obnoxious to. I must have an Aura about me. I finally pulled out a Watchtower and told one I'd go to his if he went to mine. I'm not a Witness but that Watchtower came in handy. I wasn't bothered any more after that.
The hotel: The Del Sol is two stories. One thing that caught my eye was it is a non-smoking facility. YES!!! There was also a rider at check in that stated if you are caught smoking, a $200 damage assessment would be charged. The facility itself is old but is well kept for the most part.
The rooms are arranged around a parking lot with a pool at the back. There are no elevators, so it's nice that it is only two stories. The pool was a fairly small kidney shaped pool. There was a hot tub. The jets in the hot tub were not working. The parking is very tight and very much crowded in the evening. Not quite enough spaces exist to serve the hotel. It did have a laundry facility, but only one washer and one dryer. It was the only part of the facility I would consider run down. On the plus side the dryer was 75 cents for a full dry. I took the clothes out after about 45 minutes. They were dry and the dryer was still going. The grounds were well kept and the building exterior also.
The Rooms: We got a room right above the office. Nice and quiet. Our room itself was quite big. We were serviced by a through the wall HVAC Unit. I found the decor rather ugly. But I find most decor done by interior decorators these days to be so and this was no exception. Midway through the visit, they replaced the ugly curtains with beautiful white wooden blinds. That was sweet. I guess they are in the process of updating things. We had our choice of a king or two queens. We took the two Queens. Rooms come with a fridge and a microwave. The sink area was outside the bathroom with a nice sized closet off to one side. There was no privacy between the room and the sink area, however. So when taking a shower, best bring your new clothes for the day in the bathroom. The bathroom itself consisted of a toilet and a tub and shower unit. It was fairly cramped. I couldn't sit on the toilet without ramming my shoulder into the paper holder. The tub was a really old unit and showed some evidence of that. But it was kept clean as well as the tile surround. No mold or mildew was evident by either sight or smell. The vent fan was rather loud though. The beds were comfortable. A free breakfast consisted of Juice, milk, cereal, and toast and danishes. It started at 7 and ended at 9. That meant we had to fend for ourselves on our early entry day. The breakfast room itself was rather small. But as the facility itself is rather small, and we generally munched out on the sweet rolls on the way to the gate, it really didn't matter. We generally don't do big breakfasts preferring to munch a little something and then eat an early lunch. This worked out fine
Service. Service was smooth and friendly with no hang ups. The desk seemed quite willing to arrange a super shuttle back to the airport and such and assist with other needs. We had a stopped toilet at one point in the trip and it was fixed within 5 minutes.
Overall. If you're looking for luxury, this hotel is not for you. It's rather bare bones with no really good views at all. The parking lot takes up most of the courtyard. But if you're looking for a clean, comfortable, quiet, non-smoking room at a good price in a convenient location, then this place is great. At about $200 under the Carousel and $100 under the Park Vue, for our trip, we found it a nice place. If it were the same price as the Carousel, I'd chose the Carousel.
