A REALLY stupid Ipod question...

This may be the stupidest Ipod question ever... but I admit it... I never read the manual.. I loaded songs into it once & that was it...

Now I have a problem... the computer that had the program & songs on it crashed.. I don't want to lose the songs that I aleady have on my ipod but want to add to them.. Can I add to the songs without losing the ones already there? or can I transfer the songs FROM my Ipod to my new computer?

Really I'm not usually this technically illiterate! Just lazy & disorganized because now I can't find that blasted manual!!

Actually i don't think its in the manual. I've wondered this same question. If I plug it in to update it and my library on my pc is empty will it update to nothing?

If your ipod updates automatically and you hook it up to a computer with no (or few) songs on it it will erase your songs and put on only the songs on the computer. You can change the ipod to only download manually , but it has been so long that I couldn't give you instructions. You should be able to get them on the ipodlounge link. Good luck.

I haven't been on Ipodlounge for awhile, but look up the Anapod program and see if that will help.

Take it from me, follow the instructions carefully. I had about 50 purchased songs on my now-dead computer and I thought they would synch back from the iPod, but they didn't and I lost them all. MIght as well have flushed the $50.

sorry to hear that. it seems to happen a lot and people don't realize that once their computer dies, their songs go with it.

just as a precaution warning to everyone... if you have the means of backing your purchased music files (either by cd burn or external hard drive) do it. i back my files up every month just for this reason.

Yep. I have multiple copies of cds.

even though our Ipods and computers authenticate with each other, there are various ways to get your music off of your Pod and resynch with Itunes.

Okay this really confuses me, I'm a Zen Micro girl, so I'm not familiar with ipods at all.

with my program, I can auto sync from my mp3 player to my computer, or from my computer to my mp3 player. Meaning. If there is 500 songs on my mp3 player, and none on my computer, I can auto sync from my mp3 player, and those 500 songs end up on my computer...FYI, its as simple as 2 mouse clicks, and its done

You can't do that with an ipod?
