Is this possible? DH and I will be there in October and want to try to have a nice lunch without leaving the MK. To be frank, DH is not the biggest MK fan in the world and I'd like to find a place for a nice fairly subdued lunch (no buffet, no characters) where DH can decompress a bit. I've looked at allears.net and narrowed it down to Liberty Tree Tavern or the Plaza Restaurant. Which has the more relaxed atmosphere? How's the food?

My non-mouse loving DH thanks you.

Jennifer,

Take your non mouse loving hubby to Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch. The menu is excellent and the food is very very good. It is really the best place in MK for lunch. You will both love it.

I agree and disagree.

Liberty Tree is my favorite place IN ANY park. I love the food and atmosphere (it's all you can eat too!).

However, if you want to avoid characters, you want to avoid Liberty Tree Tavern. They walk around all through the meal and will come to your table and have fun with you (though each only stays a moment if you dont have kids).

Also, because of the characters, there's more children there and it is much louder.

It's also much larger than Plaza, which increases the noise.

Plaza is a much quieter place and you definately can decompress there. I dont think LTT is the place to decompress, BUT, with that said, I'd still go there because the food is really THAT good. All you can eat bread, salad, entrees AND DESSERT!

There are no characters at liberty tree for lunch. They are only there during dinner. Hope that helps.

Ok, we've only ever been at dinner. That makes a BIG difference. It still likely will be louder than LTT but, with that said...............it wont be nearly as loud as at dinner and the food is just SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good.

LTT is definately not a Character meal for lunch.

The food is fabulous at lunch and we eat here at least twice each vacation. Make sure you ask for the bread. They no longer serve it unless you ask. It comes with the best honey butter- yummy! We have been eating lunch here since 1995 and it's awesome.

The Plaza is awesome too. We learned about this for the first time in Nov of 2004. The food is great here !

I think I prefer LTT though, and the place is larger. The lobby can be loud because they yell out your state last name and state when they seat you. If you get a table far enough from the check in desk you should be fine.

The Plaza is a smaller restaurant and it could be loud if there were tons of people (especially kids). The kitchen is very close to where you eat because of the size.

Either way you can't go wrong!

For a good lunch Counter Service, I would try Columbia Habour House, go upstairs, not many people know about that area and it's quite!

Yes, I agree with ncstate's comments: if you are looking for quietness, upstairs at Columbia Harbor house can't be beat.

herc.

I didn't discover Columbia Harbour House until a few years ago when we took the Keys to the Kingdom tour (the tour has lunch there upstairs). It's got to be the most calm and quiet place in the MK. Not only that, but the food is good too!

For years I walked by that place and never gave it a thought--now it is a regular lunch stop!

I would choose the earliest seating at Liberty Tree. It's very quiet in there early on and the menu is excellent. Plaza can have a lot of hubbub from the Main Street characters coming in to 'campaign' their roles and it's fun, but small, usually noisy and crowded.

My DH sounds like the OP's. We tried the Liberty Tree for lunch on our last trip and am so glad we did; it's now one of our favorites. And lunchtime there is NOT a character meal either. You order from the menu and the food is absolutely delicious. Make sure and ask for the rolls! The atmosphere is warm and subdued ... just perfect for a quiet respite from the park. On another note, while we do enjoy Columbia Harbour House for a quick counter service meal and eat it upstairs, it in no way compares to Liberty Tree Tavern.

I like the Plaza, but I *love* LTT for lunch. Beautiful, restful atmosphere and really good food. I think it's just the ticket for your hubby.

We ate at both on our last trip (Aug '05). The Plaza Restaurant is small and the tables seemed pretty close together. The food was good. We happened into LTT on our last day (no ressie) and loved it. We were in a corner table, away from it all. For your husband, I would lean toward LTT - a nice quiet sit-down meal. A bit more relaxed than Plaza and can be drawn out into a leisurly lunch if you want. I felt rushed at Plaza.

Both are great and on my list for our next trip!

Another vote for LTT! We go there every visit for lunch. But we take a different approach and take a late lunch - around 2 pm. Seems like everyone is lining up for the parade at that time and they don't want to take time out for a sit-down meal. We usually finish before 3 and walk right out and watch the parade.

Just ask for a place away from the lobby area and server stations when you check in for someplace quiet.
