I have stayed at All Stars many times and still use my mugs from 1999- No one has ever said anything... Why does this get everyone so upset? Isnt the purpose of this board to give people ideas and in some cases save money?

The great mug debate. I would highly suggest doing a search of Refillable Mugs. The mug debates are almost always started by a newbie, I know I was one who asked what I thought was an innocent question and I got blasted & flamed. It is a fair question and one you have every right to ask.

Unfortunately there is a lot of unclear information regarding the mugs. Ask Disney the question and you can get several different answers which just makes the whole situation even worse. There are some posters that are self appointed Disney police who are convinced that no matter the circumstances under which the mugs were purchased that they are right, regardless.


This was my Original Post back in Oct 05, when I was new:

We purchased the refillable mugs in Dec 99/Jan 00 at an AllStar resort. We were told at the time that the mugs could be brought back with us on future visits to an AllStar resort and be used. We are coming back in Dec/Jan and still have our mugs - can we still use them?

After a very ugly heated debate, this is what I found out directly from Disney:

I received an e-mail from customer service in response to my inquiry. The mugs that are CURRENTLY being sold are for "length of stay" and cannot be brought back, the signage and mugs are specific. However this is a fairly new policy. (no one is clear when the policy changed from "Lifetime" to "Length of Stay"). Mugs purchased in the years of "can be brought back at any time to same resort" are still being honored. The mug must return to the same resort. In the case of the All-Stars (that was part of my specific questions) the All-Star mugs that I purchased when we were there 6 years ago can be brought back and used at any All-Star resort.

That said, with a clear conscience, knowing that my ethics have not been compromised and that I am not trying to cheat, I will be bringing our mugs with us. It is not the specifics of the money involved or thinking the offer "was too good to be true" it is a matter of principle, Disney said they were good for a lifetime, you've got to figure Disney was banking on the premise of how many people will actually return with their mugs to the same resort. We were in Disney Dec99/Jan00 for the Milennium Celebration.

UPDATE:
We took our mugs with us to ASMu this past December, we had CM's comment on how smart we were in remembering to bring our mugs back.

We will be going to POFQ on our next trip and will leave the AS mugs at home as they are not good at another resort. We will purchase new POFQ mugs that will only be good for our length of stay and then they will return home to be used anywhere and everywhere except at a Disney Resort.

Thanks for the info. I never really thought about bringing my mug back to CBR but now I will. I agree with you, I don't want to do the wrong thing but if I'm entitled to do it shy wouldn't I.
