In class Friday, we learned about Macon's Bill #2 which was
"(May 1, 1810),(A) law enacted by Congress during the Napoleonic Wars to motivate Great Britain and France, then at war, to cease illegal seizures of American commercial vessels. Macon's Bill affirmed American trade with all countries but would ban trade with either France or Great Britain unless seizure of neutral ships stopped. This bill replaced the Non-Intercourse Act but failed to stop the seizure of ships."
Our first question was, "What does #1 say?" Our professor said he didnt know if there was one, but if we researched we could get extra credit. I have searched and found nothing, so I dont think there was one. But if anyone has any insight, I would LOVE it!
We also have to write a paragraph about Lafitte (sp?). The French Pirate that was involved with the Battle of New Orleans. He didnt know about him either. If you know anything about this I would enjoy that too. The story seems a little different everytime I read/hear it! Our teacher last year spent a LONG time on him, because he thought he was neat. A friend and I went back to him yesterday and he dug through all of his extra papers and found us maps and sheets and told us the story again, we only wanted to ask him one simple question! hehe
I wish I could find that kind of excitement about history that Coach Booth has!!
Anyway- Thanks in Advance!!

It sounds like you are fairly excited about history, even if it's not as much as your teacher.:D

I'm not sure about the questions you ask, but I thought I'd add that many pirates during this era became privateers, meaning they did they same thing they did as pirates (overtake and sink ships, steal cargo, etc.) but were paid to do so by a govenment. It made their actions legitimate (at least to the side that was paying them).

Good luck with your research!

Macon's Bill #1 was a repeal of the trade prohibition with Great Britain and France, this billl was debated, apparently rather furiously, and in the end a newer Bill (#2) was passed instead.
I can't give you many specifics for this but lookig up some key players at this time might be of help
apart from the obvious

William Eustis Sec. of War
Albert Gallantin Sec of Treas
Henry Clay US Congress
FJ Jackson British Amb to US

there's some interesting stuff here

good luck

I don't know if the Congressional Record goes back that far but that may be something to look into

That is awesome Ran! Thanks so much!
The other stuff on Lafitte is great too! Thanks yall!! Ill be sure to let you know what my prof. thinks of it!:jester:

:wave2: Ran! Good to see you. I didn't realize you were into history. I just thought you sat duct taped to that chair all day.;) :teeth:
