A question for the ladies??

Hi all

I am getting married in WDW on August 17th and I am wanting to take my hair straightners in particular, they are GHD's!!!! I have heard however that all appliances from abroad lose a tremendous amount of power, therefore leaving my straightners useless. Now I am a girl that depends on her hair straightners, I have very thick, long hair that I straighten every time I wash my hair and I couldn't possibly go 3 weeks without doing this.
Can any women that have previously been to Orlando put my mind at ease and tell me that my straightners will be okay?

Are they (what ever a GHD is????!!!) dual voltage? do they say on them 120240 volts or just 240 Volts. if only 240 volts then they will not work great at all. If that is the case, go to Walmart or Target and buy a set there

They are only for 240v and wont work very well at all. Best bet is get a dual voltage pair of straighteners before you go or buy a pair at Walmart.

For some reason ghds dont seem to work as well over there. my sil bought the usa equivelant . i just bought a set of wet 2 dry straighteners from target for aroung $30! worked just as well

My straighteners didn't work either but I bought a v cheap pair in Walmart that were just as good. Kxx

On advice from this board, I bought some straighteners in Walmart whilst I was there last October - Conair Infiniti for about $40... worked well for me.

one thing to remember is that it will be very humid in august, so your hair may not stay straight.

If you can afford it and want GHD's try the new 2007 multi voltage pair.

From experiance (not personally ) GHD's wont work very good at all, but will still be usable. The best option is to buy a new pair out there if thats an option

I took my GHDs with me in August and they worked perfectly.

I don't understand how, some can work and others can't, I may have to look into dual voltage, I suppose I could always buy some spare GHD's

My GHDs worked when we were there (we stayed onsite if that helps!). However they were useless for the parks, as the humidty made my hair frizzy and as soon as the hair got some water from rides etc, it went curly again! Maybe also get some hair spray or protector to stop it reacting to the humidity!

Hi, got back last week and my hairstraightners worked ok - I wouldn't say they got as hot as at home but very close. Not sure if they are dual voltage or not.

Anyway to save any disasters in the future (I need mine everyday) I invested in a new pair of GHD's when I got home as they have now been designed to work just as well abroad as at home.

Not sure I'd fancy buying a pair out there as I wouldn't want to pay ghd prices for something I would only use 2 or 3 weeks of the year and I'm sure that the cheaper ones would be the same as the cheaper ones here.

what about the BaByliss or Braun gas straighteners - would they be any good?

Several times I took ghd's to Orlando and they worked fine. They didn't get quite as hot as they do at home, but still hotter than most other straighteners.

Then, over New Year 2004, we went to New York en-route to Orlando and they wouldn't work there at all. I ended up buying a very expensive pair in Redken Fifth Avenue and I've been taking them with me ever since.

Over Christmas this year, all three pairs of ghd's in our house (I have two daughters) packed up in the space of a couple of weeks, so I now have a pair of the new genertion ghd 4s.

I find that my hair is affected by the humidity for the first day or two, but then seems to settle down. It does help to use a heat protecting spray before straightening.

Is this the kind of thing I would need to purchase to use my GHD's in the States? This thing weighs 3.0kg!!!!

This is what my GHD's say:

220-240Vac. 50hz,35W

My "new generation" ghd's say they are 110 - 230Vac, 60Hz / 50Hz, 120W

I think the 110v is what is needed to work properly in the US.

The one's I took with me that worked ok were 220 - 240Vac 75W

My GHD's worked in the US but not as efficiently as at home so I recently bought a pair of Farouk CHI (GHD equivalents) straighteners off eBay for £31 & they work brilliantly...
