A question about the $10 cancellation fee.

Hi,

When it is time to make dining reservations, I know we will have one person who won't have a final decision on if they are coming on trip or not.

If I reserve a table for 5, but only 4 end up going, am I charged the $10 fee?

I'm pretty sure you aren't charged as long as someone shows up for the reservation so you should be fine.

As long as one person shows up for an a la carte reservation you won't be charged. If it is a pre paid dinner show you will loose the payment in full for that meal.

it is a $10 per person charge is no one shows to the reservation. As the pp mentioned as long as one person shows up their are no charges.

No, you can change party size at the podium. We had ADRs for four, but some of our nights it was just us. No problems getting a table for less and no "no show" fee.

They can't really charge for less showing up as long as they have things like 'Ohana that don't let you book for a solo - or from what I've heard don't like odd-numbered parties.

Ok, that was what I was thinking. I had a reservation last year for a breakfast at Kona and completely forgot to cancel it, yet they didn't charge me a fee. I was surprised.

Sometimes you are lucky! You should get emailed reminders now. I liked them.

We recently had to cancel an ADR same day. We called Guest Services and we asked if they would let us "trade" it for dinner the following night at another restaurant instead of acquiring the fee. She said yes. She then told us that we could cancel the new one by 10pm with no fee. It was worth asking to see if there were any other options. I'm sure it depends on the time of year and cast member but it worth a shot if you are ever in a bind like we were.

An easy way to deal with a same day ADR cancellation and not risk a penalty is to go into the MDE app and modify the ADR by moving it to any date in the future. Then cancel that one.

This sometimes doesn't work. I don't know the exact cutoff time but I was unable to do this for a 12:00 Sanaa lunch at 7:30 am (DS woke up with a stomach bug that morning). I called Guest Services (or was it Disney Dining?) and they were nice enough to cancel it for me. CM said that if you are within a certain number of hours of your ADR, the modify-then-cancel method won't work.

*Also to whom it may concern, some prepaid ADRs require 48 hour cancellation

Good to know. It has worked for me, but we primarily make dinner ADRs, not lunch, so maybe we make the changes early enough in the day for it to work.

This does not always work. WE had two that I could not even cancel or modify the night before. I went to the concierge and she could not either. FOr one, we just wanted to reduce by one person, and the CM at the podium did that for us.

No cancellations fees if then party shows...no matter the size. I've had people decide not to go many times and it's no big deal.
