A question about servers and tips...

My husband got word that he was losing his job in the beginning of January and I got superstitious about coming to the boards (like maybe we were being punished because I wouldn't give up on Disney through the hard times) so I stopped in the beginning of January when all the DDp changes were being reported. Now he has a new job starting Monday :cool1: so I need to catch up!

So I was wondering, do the servers still have to ask what tip you want to give? Are they still hating all this or have things gotten easier for them?

I was on the DxDDP the last week of Feb.

I was never verbally asked whether I wanted to give a tip or how much.

About 20% of the time I was reminded that gratuities are not included.

I tried to always remind the server I wanted to tip using my room card. If the server remembered (they didn't always) I'd get a slip of paper to add a gratuity. Then you get 2 receipts to sign, 1 for credits the other for the gratuity charge. If they didn't remember I was on the DxDDP then I had to tip cash (since the normal way of settling a check doesn't include a line to add gratuity before swiping the room card). Note that if you ordered anything not covered on the plan and had an OOP charge, then you could tip as per a normal credit card after the fact. The server seemed to know this and didn't bother giving the gratuity slip if they thought you had an OOP charge. As I was on the DxDDP, and the servers seemed to forget this occaisonally, I think this was the source of some confusion, since the DxDDP covered appetizers when they'd be OOP on the DDP. Frankly, there seemed to be a sense of fatalism by many servers. I sensed surprise when I actually gave them a tip, particular when I fixed the slip up on the room key charging sequence and gave them a cash tip.
