A question about Private Message inbox limits

I've had an automated e-mail message a couple of times stating that my inbox was full, so I deleted a bunch of messages. However, I was wondering if anyone knew what the limits were so that I could prevent the problem from happening again. Is the limit just on the actual "inbox" or does it also apply to any other folders created also? For instance, so long as my inbox doesn't have very much in it, is it okay for there to be lots in another folder?

Can someone tell me what the limits are? Thanks so much in advance!!!

I don't know what the actual number is. It does apply to messages in all files, including the sent file.
