A question about codes

I am familiar with AP codes as we have used them several times over the past couple of years. However, I have been reading in the forums about specific codes that are mailed to people from Disney. I am not familiar with these codes. Is this something that Disney does for people who have visited in the past? Is it just for people from the U.S. (I'm from Canada)? I've also read about people calling to ask the CM to check their files to see if they have a code. Could someone please explain these codes to me? :confused3

there are many theories on how someone gets a postcard, but no one really knows. we have gotten a couple (but not any recently) and we have stayed at disney several times.

It's a marketing tool used to encourage visits to the Disney parks. No one is quite sure about the criteria used to select who receives a post card rate and who doesn't (some can come via email). Some believe if you register at their website (Disneyworld.com) your chances might improve. Simply register and go to your profile page and mark that you would like to receive special offers updates on WDW resorts etc. However, there are those who go to Disney and aren't registered there that get codes...these could be randomly selected from previous visitors...for instance, a family who went a few years ago may receive a post card inviting them to receive a special discount if they return during a certain time frame. My guess is that being in Canada would not limit your chances...but it wouldn't hurt to register online. The codes are non-transferrable and only the person on the card can use the discount. I have been to Disneyworld 3 times with my family (since having children) more times before children...and have never received a post card rate....so hoping I'm due! :) Hope this helps you a bit.

Oops, meant to add...sometimes a code may be next to your profile in their system but you need to have received the card...sometimes you may not have received the card (slow mail or lost) and some ask a CM to check if they have a code....I think more CM's than not look down on this route to discounting....some say they can't tell you...you have to tell them...and others will gladly look for you....it's all a toss-up...
