Hello everyone, I'm new on the boards and need some help.

For anyone who's ever eaten at Boma, do they have anything on the buffet that will appeal to a very reserved (I hate the word "picky") and non-adventurous eater? What kinds of food is supplied on the kids buffet? If there's chicken nuggets, hot dogs, pizza, french fries, bread, macaroni and cheese, or other kid-friendly stuff, then we're good to go. Otherwise, I think I may need to re-think our reservation. We thought it would be great to experience a restaurant that sounds so unique and gets such rave reviews, but if it means starving our only child, then we'll switch to something less exotic. As a very selective eater myself, I do empathize with him.

Thanks for your help!!

There is a "kid-friendly" section of the buffet with pasta, fries, chicken fingers and such.

That would be me the word u hate. :lmao: I am a plain eater. We ate there 2 weeks ago I ate the prime rib & mac & cheese.:thumbsup2

DS11 would name Boma as one of his favorite restaurants even though all he generally eats there are strawberries  Gotta say, they have the biggest and best strawberries I've ever had :thumbsup2 He'll also eat the prime rib & chicken fingers sometimes. There are plenty of "simple" "normal" foods for the less adventurous, so go and have a great time :goodvibes

If you just want to experience the ambiance of Boma, the breakfast buffet is pretty straightforward, Everything is very fresh and good and most of the selections will be familiar with just a few adventurous offerings.

We're actually staying at AKL in 2 weeks and I've been on the fence about eating at Boma. I do keep seeing so many good comments about it. Maybe we'll give it a try...I have some more dining credits that I need to use up.

We went to Boma on Tuesday and I am a picky eater there was very little for me to eat. I tried a few things like soup chicken and corn chowder but did not like it. i liked the french freis and the fruit and dessert. Went becausse really wanted to go, we were on the dinning plan so it was free so I was fine with it

As others have said there are many non-adventureous foods to eat.....and as a mom to a former "reserved" eater, I can say that I loved going to places like this with her. I'd let her fill up her plate with whatever appealed to her....and then I'd bring back a small sampling of a few things that I thought she might like and she'd agree to try just one bite of them. Because she knew there was food that she wanted to eat right in front of her, I was able to get her to try things because it wasn't "threatening" to her. Buffets were my friend during those years! I really and truly credit that method with getting her to become more adventurous. Now, you'd never know...she eats just about everything, including having favorite restaurants that are as close to authentic as you'll get outside their own country! Who'd a thunk a kid who cried over having to try an enchilada would be cooking her own chorizo! Or a kid who once had come close to a tantrum when I cooked salmon would be asking to go to the sushi place for her birthday!

I wish you luck (and patience) in helping your child become adventurous with food.

My kids are a bit younger but if I were to put meat other then chicken on thier plates they would be in tears. We go to many buffets and they don't even like chicken balls! what kid doesn't like chicken balls! they will eat fench fries, onion rings, hot dogs w/o the bun. I'm going to have so much fun:laughing:

Don't be afraid to try the "potatoes with 'Afritude'". They are just your basic roasted potato wedges, nothing really exotic about them at all. So if you end up at the meat carving station and have these, it would satisfy those "meat and potatoes" people. ;)

The best part is that you can always try a tiny amount of anything on the buffet, and if you don't like it, you just grab a fresh plate and try something else. :)

I would love to go to Boma, that's on my list of new restaurants to try!

Oh and to the op...Welcome to the dis!

We are adventureous eaters and found enough to eat at Boma, but found most of the options not good. There was a great variety and we were full when we left but totally disappointed. The mac and cheese was good, the hummus was excellent, soups were tasty and most everything else tasted the same. What ever spice they used, they used too much!! Hated the Zebra Domes and the service for drinks was horrid.

We are not part of the Boma is wonderful crowd. We will never go back. :scared:

We went on our honeymoon in 2005. I am certainly a picky eater, and having shelled out quite a bit of money- only to find out the only thing I liked on the menu was pasta. I don't recall seeing a carving station, but I'm sure some things have changed over 3 years. hopefully for the better. I don't know if we would ever go back to eat there. We have our other favorite restaurants.
