So, I am only a Junior in Highschool right now but, I was looking into the College Disney Program for my Freshman year or honestly, anytime I can get in. I was wondering if anyone has any advice for me for when I'm looking at colleges ect.
Right now I'm just a 16 year old, Disney fanatic, working for Six Flags in Louisville, Ky.
Any help?

As long as you are 18+, completed 1 semester in college, and are in good standing with your school, that should help.

Looks like you'll be ready to go once you pick a college and attend for a semester. It doesn't matter which one--whichever has the programs you like and is located somewhere that you want to be.

I see you've been to a number of the WDW resort hotels, so you must know the property pretty well--that's a good thing. Keep learning everything you can at Six Flags too! Get trained in different areas if possible, learn how to communicate with guests, don't be the person that causes problems for you boss...and you'll have some great skills that will transfer over to Disney World.

What do you want to study in school?

Right now, I am looking at majoring in Art and minoring in either Buisness or Computer Tech. It's bad when the only career plans you have at the moment are somehow working for Disney. :goodvibes

And for colleges I am actually looking at some Florida colleges because my grandfather lives in Tallahassee and so I think I could possibly even move down there to get some in state tuition but, if not then it's off to my local University of Louisville.

I can completely sympathize with only future plans being Disney; at the present, that's all mine consist of! I'm a junior in high school also, and I'll be applying for the Spring 2010 Career Start program. All I've got planned now is a major in English/creative writing, and possibily minoring in business. Who knows? But I will be signing up for as many CPs as possible! :goodvibes

I'm a senior in high school, and found out about the program about the same time as you! I was a sophomore at the time. Ever since I've been learning as much as possible about the program, just to prep myself for when I apply. I was originally going to apply for Spring 2010, but my parents want me to finish at least a year of college before the College Program.

My Grandma lives in Orlando, literally a few miles from DAK property. I looked at UCF, but decided I'll stay local for my first year and I'll probably be attending a state school, then off to another college... maybe UCF.

I'll be applying for Fall 2010. I've been counting down the days. A little less than 10 months left!

I haven't seen you around the forums, but welcome anyway!

I was a DCP student in Aug 03-Jan 04...

You absolutely, positively, without question...need to swallow the following things:

Be ready to work LONG hours, in a not-so-glorious job, and make VERY little money. If you're willing to accept all that, you'll have an AMAZING time. I know I did.

My advice to you is as follows: Don't take ANY elective classes at school before you go on CP. Make sure you're taking specifically required classes leading up to CP because most schools only accept CP as elective credit. If you don't plan it correctly, it could end up delaying your graduation date (it delayed mine by a semester because I didn't plan correctly)

Also...the interview process will be done in groups. You will go to a presentation and then have a group interview with 6 or 7 other prospective interns...I can't stress this enough...SET-THE-WORLD-ON-FIRE during your group interview. Out of the people you're interviewing with...there are going to be a number of jobs assigned. You want to make sure your Disney knowledge comes out, your personality comes out, and your passion comes out. They're filling jobs for custodians cleaning bathrooms (not that there's anything wrong with this...but it's not for me), they're going to casting people to spiel the Jungle Cruise (more my speed), and they're going to be casting Vacation Planners (that was my gig...) So, long story short, there are some jobs that suck, and some jobs that suck way less...make sure you show that you add value and you'll get yourself one of the "suck less" jobs.

I love talking about CP...if you have any questions, feel free to PM me, or IM me at DanMan217...I know the absolute ins and outs of that program, and will be more than happy to help you out in any way that I can.

My parents are the same way, I will be graduating high school in 2010 and so I will be applying for my sophomore year in college, my parents want me to try to do the CP during my off months, but to be completely honest, if i get in it won't matter what time of year it is!
I'm normally over on the theme parks forum and I don't get on as much as I should. I'm a busy girl ya know.

I seriously, don't have any problems with working long hot hours in a park. Right now working at Six Flags during the summer I am working long hours in crazy Kentucky weather (It was 70 degrees last week, and yesterday we had a chance of snow!) working with surveying and this summer I will be trained to work rides. I'm hoping that this will give me one up. I found out about the college program my sophomore year actually when I was at Disney and the lifeguard at the Beach Club told me that she was doing it and I fell in love with the whole idea ever since. :lovestruc

Thank you so much everyone with all this extra information, they don't tell you everything on the website. :) And, if anyone else has any insider tips I'd love that!!!

And, good luck to all of you applying I will be in your shoes sooner that I can imagine and it terrifies me so much! Hopefully my 15 trips (at the age of 16 I may add) and my recreational reading of Disney Trivia and Tour books will be to my advantage!!!!

I know that a lot of colleges won't except the Disney CP credits for a freshman and a lot of credits won't except credit directly from Disney at all. I'm actually going to take a leave of absence officially from my college and am going through Onondaga CC in NY, that way I will still get the credit.

What college do you go to? I go to Oswego and am going to take some classes through OCC this summer. I live in the area. When are you going down? For what role?! You can PM me if you prefer!

I was accepted into the Fall program for Main Entrance Operations. That sucks that you can't make the Rochester audition...good luck at it though! Are you planning to drive down if you get in? I am and checking in August 19th I think, I have to accept it officially tomorrow after I get everything filled out with me school...anyways if you aren't planning to drive but want a ride let me know haha! good luck!

I wish I could drive down...lol..It would be much easier to pack, but I'm flying because my sister already has a car down in Orlando and I get to have that when I arrive...I can't complain because I'll have a car and that's much better then having to rely on buses though...

Congrats on getting Main Entrance!! I can't wait to think about moving down, I need to plan this summer and my summer job carefully so that I don't have problems with dates conflicting... Hey do you have facebook?

hey i do the link is...http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=27615755&ref=profile

Thats good about the car...I'm kinda dreading driving 20 hours haha! I think I'm taking a full semester this summer class wise might go crazy but they all end by the 15th of august so the 19th works out for me.

Also I'm sorry that this stuff had nothing to do with the actual thread...I'm going to read it over and answer the original post as well since I feel bad haha

Hey! Soo I would suggest when you look at colleges to see if they participate in the Disney CP it would be a whole lot better if you can earn credits while doing it and not get too far behind. I don't want to graduate late and I transferred to my current school from a different one and lost some credits so basically I'm doing a full summer session so when I get back from the program I will only need 11 credits next spring to still graduate on time in May 2010!! Also I can't say for sure since I wasn't a freshman applying for the Disney CP but I would suggest waiting until spring of your sophmore year or later. I just think the beginning of school you can get your core done, know your major, and have a good group of friends that even if you leave for a semester you will still be close with when you get back. Just my thoughts!
