A precious gem of a weekend!7/23 Finished! link to new TR

We've had that Mad Hatter...he is fabulous! He kept stealing my tea!

I did see the elastic around Cindy's foot but I thought it was a bandage :rotfl2: During Aisling's recital there was one older group that looked barefoot. I bet they were wearing those.

I only have 15 days until I leave for WDW!

But that's not my real exciting news. The exciting part is that the dance studio owner is thinking of having a "team meal" while we are down there. She hadn't really looked into it and was just going to try to put something together when she got down there. After I picked my jaw up off the ground I innocently asked.

"Do you want me to phone disney and look into it?"

And she said sure.

:cool1:

So I get to phone catering and look into a meal for around 75 to 100 people. We've got 25 dancers and then at least one of their family members would come as well and possibly more so that's where I got the numbers from.

We'd like to have it right at the Coronado where the competition is and since we finally know the dance schedule there are a couple of windows that might work. One is a brunch time, one is a night-time dessert buffet time and one is a dinner time. But I don't like the dinner time because my kids and I will be in an airplane on our way home during that time frame. So if I'm organizing it, then I'm employing my right to veto a time I can't make it.

Then I said "You know for a fee we could get a character to come to the meal too".

She thought that was a great idea. But she wasn't done yet. She also wanted me to look into getting a photo shoot done of the group while we are there. I don't know where to start with this one. Should I book a private photopass session?

I'm totally excited about the prospect of booking this. I can barely think of anything else and catering doesn't open til 8:30 tomorrow morning. How am I supposed to focus on anything else until then?

That's awesome news! I know that was really holding you back. :goodvibes

Your food at 1900 looks great, and you DH appears to actually be enjoying himself! :thumbsup2

Dh had a great time this trip. Mostly out of the parks but nonetheless he was a very pleasant traveling companion.

I'm psyched to see you're doing a podcast cruise. I hope you're doing a TR on it cause I'll be there. PM if you start and I haven't shown up yet. I'd love to do a cruise one day.

Well you never know. IF they go through Disney special events, you could end up with something very cool. Lots of areas do functions that you don't even think about! And I imagine they specialize in last minute creations of this very sort.

But counter service or offsite? I'd stick with my ADR!

Your brunch sounds like so much fun!!!!!!!!!!! I would love to do that one of these days, not enough days for all the eating I'd like for sure! Must meet the Hatter!

The best part is that I get to go though special events myself now. I'm a bit afraid of more Disney Math but in the end it will be worth it. The fun for me will be in the planning.

The E's would get a kick out of the Hatter. I'd pay 2 table credits to see him and Cinderella's evil stepmother go at it.

We've had that Mad Hatter...he is fabulous! He kept stealing my tea!

I did see the elastic around Cindy's foot but I thought it was a bandage :rotfl2: During Aisling's recital there was one older group that looked barefoot. I bet they were wearing those.

My kids had him and their Wonderland Tea party but I bet his talents were wasted on the children. They wouldn't get the nuances. Can you imagine him as the character in residence at an Adult only dinner? Something a little less classy that Victoria and Alberts although it would be a hoot to see him there too.

It was big news in our groups of family and friends as Eeoyre (DS11) finally relented to getting a "real" hair cut. He's still not sure if he likes it as he's had longish hair for a couple years now but he assures me he doesn't hate it.

He debuted his haircut the day we had another set of dance pictures done at our dance studio. He walked into the studio wearing a bandana (he always wears one to dance, or at least he used to, to keep the hair out of his eyes) and the dance studio owner told him to "take that thing off his head for pictures."

So he did and there were screams and hugs by all his team mates and instructors. They were all very supportive.

So here his is before and after his haircut.

Here is one for fun. I imagine he'll be doing this again in 12 days when we leave for DISNEY!

Cindy (DD9) had some new pictures done too.

I love it!! The pictures are gorgeous....I can't believe it's almost time for you guys to leave. Can't wait for that TR!!!!

Beautiful pictures of your kids. Great hair cut. 2 weeks until D-Day. How is the dinner planning going? (or brunch or whatever it ends up being)

Love love love the haircut!!! He looks soooo handsome!!! And grown up!!!

Cindy's pics are gorgeous too! You guys have a great dance photographer. Ours is just meh. Yours takes straight up head shots which has got to be useful for auditions!

ok so don't take this wrong but the haircut takes him from sweet and sensitive little boy to young hottie.

I am SOOOOO jealous you get to call Special Events! How cool is THAT! I cannot wait to see what they say.

Regarding pics, I don't think Photopass is set up for that. I imagine SE can give you some names and numbers . Unfortunately the only "name" I know down there is a wedding/engagement only group but the could possibly steer you somewhere as well. These guys area DISbride fav. Could be worth a call if SE can't help. But I bet they can.

Oh, and BTW, I made a ressie for 1900 for "brunch". Not sure yet if we will keep it but now that it looks like we will have 3 days of just the 6 of us on the QSP (not final) an OOP "brunch" sounded like a good idea of one of the days. And a nice break from the 8 sit down dinners!

Dh and I got married a tad too early to have our wedding at WDW. So working with special events was really like a dream come true.

That being said, it was incredibly difficult to actually get hold of the person I needed to talk with. Apparently because we were associated with the Dance Olympus Competition I could only talk with one CM. It took three days to connect. That was frustrating. However, once I got hold of the CM in question, they were so wonderful that I soon forgot about my previous frustration.

She emailed me the information on menus. I've included it for you in case you want to browse through yourself.

What it came down to is

1) we have a highly allergic dancer on our team. While I have full faith in Disney to take extra special care of her, her parents were not as trustful.

2) The only time we could get the whole team together was for about an hour for brunch on the last day of competition. While you are all familiar with how much I love brunch, apparently my love is not shared by the other parents of the team. It was dinner or nothing.

So sadly, it is nothing.

:sad1:

The price for brunch was too high in the parent's mind when I surveyed a few of them. Plus, since the dancer is allergic to eggs, the parents didn't want any eggs at the brunch. A brunch without eggs is like a waffle without syrup (which by the way it was 5.75 a person to include mickey waffles).

Without a team meal there was no need to bring in a character. Which is about $900 for 30 minutes. Beside Minnie only had a cheer leading costume. Not a dancer's costume.

Instead we are all going to meet by the main pool in our dance studio tank tops for a group photo. The parents of the highly allergic dancer is going to bring a cake (perhaps that they are making themselves?) and the dancers can all have swim together.

We still might go with the photographer that Disney gave us. It was $200 for a group photo of less than 75 people and they would put our logo around around the photo. To buy an 8x10 would then cost $15. The dance studio owner really wants a good photo for our local newspaper so I still have hope I can at least organize that.

I can't get the photography link to show. Sorry but I do have the others.

Here is the cake information from special events at the Coronado

Here is their menus. Keep in mind that the cheapest brunch is listed at $21 something. But with tax it comes out to $25 something. The pricing listed is for adults. Children ages 3-9 are half price and under 3 is free. Just like park tickets.

How fun! Do you get to choose the character, or is it just random? That would be great if you could get a photopass session, too! :goodvibes

You do get to choose the character. You even get to choose which outfit the character will wear. So this is a great way to get those rarely seen outfits.

All those possibilities sound great! Can't wait to see what you hear from Disney!

It was so fun talking about all the possibilities with the special events CM. They really think of everything.

Love DS's new haircut!!! The pictures of both him and Cindy are gorgeous!

Thank you. This is what they look like when prepped in front of the camera. Wait until you see pictures of them melting in the july heat in the parks.

Love the haircut! You've got some great-looking kids! :thumbsup2

Today he said "I think I like my haircut now Mom." So we're slowly getting there.

I love it!! The pictures are gorgeous....I can't believe it's almost time for you guys to leave. Can't wait for that TR!!!!

I can't believe how close the trip is coming. I get nervous just thinking about all the stuff I have to do in this upcoming week. YIKES! I'd better eat my wheaties.

Beautiful pictures of your kids. Great hair cut. 2 weeks until D-Day. How is the dinner planning going? (or brunch or whatever it ends up being)

You have to know I'm totally pushing the brunch. But sadly, it seems it will not happen. With the extra price of paying for the mandatory workshops at the competition and the seasonal pricing at Disney, most of the dance parents are in sticker shock. They didn't want to shell out more $.

Love love love the haircut!!! He looks soooo handsome!!! And grown up!!!

Cindy's pics are gorgeous too! You guys have a great dance photographer. Ours is just meh. Yours takes straight up head shots which has got to be useful for auditions!

She is a really wonderful photographer. We are lucky to have her. She did family shots of us a couple years ago that I treasure.

ok so don't take this wrong but the haircut takes him from sweet and sensitive little boy to young hottie.

Everyone has been remarking how much more grown up he looks now. I still see my little baby but I probably always will. It's a mother thing right?

I did look into the wedding photographers but for a one shot deal, Disney had the best price.

I suspect there will still be more changes coming as your trip draws nearer. You've got quite a cast of characters. I think having a brunch in your back pocket as a possibility will turn out to be a great thing.

Sorry your team meal didn't turn out, but nothing would be satisfactory if you have someone who is that allergic. I am curious how they are going to make the cake. That must stink to be that allergic to eggs that you can't eat cake.

Well, you tried and I hope your efforts are appreciated.

Last I left we were digesting our “brunch” from 1900 park fare and not playing miniput while waiting out the afternoon before MNSSHP.

It was almost 4:15 before we took off for the MK. The weather reported it was a high of 62 but with a wind chill around 52. I had dressed us as warmly as possible. We had long sleeve t-shirts under our themed Halloween t-shirts and we both had windbreakers. I still thought we were going to get cold so I wasn’t giving up on my dream of a hoodie.

After all I don’t actually own a Disney Hoodie. I own some Disney themed PJ’s and a couple t-shirts but no hoodies. Being a kindergarten teacher, I usually dress office casual but on field trip days or some of our charity dress down days I get to wear jeans, sweats and t-shirts. So I could wear a Disney hoodie occasionally to work. It seems I’m trying to convince you all reading my report to agree that I need a Disney hoodie but I’m already preaching to the converted. It’s my hubby I needed to convince. I wasn’t about to waste my first few hours at MNSSHP shopping though.

We actually had to run for a bus at the bus stop. Once again we went to the main bus stop and when we rounded the corner we saw a MK sign on a bus so we ran for it. Luckily we made it.

Here is what we saw when we arrived.

122907db.jpg

It was 4:50 by the time we crossed over to main street USA.

I made Dh stop to take this picture with me.

839c1298.jpg

Don’t we look happy? Once again I have to state that Dh was so much more agreeable this trip than our last trip. He really enjoyed the lack of commando touring style.

I loved all the Halloween decorations. I had brought the kids in late August in 2007 and 2008 so we had seen them before.

Here is a street light all dressed up.

73dcc292.jpg

I’d love to see the place decorated for the winter holidays but until I retire from teaching I doubt I will. The thought of the crowds at xmas makes me quiver. Of course I am attempting July 4th this year so we’ll see how that pans out. Remember I didn’t choose July 4th though. We’re going because of a dance competition. If I had to choose it would be late August again. I liked having the whole summer getting ready for it. I was relaxed heading out into our vacation. This July 4th trip we are leaving from school on the last day of the year. I don’t think I’ll be that relaxed. In fact my shoulders are starting to hunch up as I type this. Yikes. Change subjects.

Our first stop was a photopass picture in front of the castle. Tinkerbelle565 let me into her photopass and I wanted to send her a big thanks for that. Only the photographers were mobbed so we decided to come back another time. I regret this decision because we never came back to it. Oh well, a reason to go back again I guess.

Then we headed to something I knew wouldn’t be overly busy. The TTA.

57529701.jpg

For nostalgic reasons I love this ride. We got stopped on it overlooking the laugh floor entrance. I noticed this bird’s nest. Wonder how long it escaped the eye of other CMs?

f9bc2a15.jpg

We tried to go on CoP but we just missed one. I didn’t feel like waiting so we thought we would come back later. After all, this ride is never busy.

We headed to the quintessential MNSSHP ride.

The Haunted Mansion.

96fc5774.jpg

I figured this ride was going to be busy all night so we might as well try for it during dinnertime. The wait wasn’t too long, maybe 12 minutes or so. We must have caught it at just the right time. As we entered the stretching room I pretended to throw up on Dh. Specifically aiming for his shoes. Normally you wouldn’t think this sort of thing would bring on hysterical giggling. But it did.

We were both remembering the time we tried to take Cindy (DD9) and Jedi (DS7) on the ride. Jedi was a basket case at first. We were those parents holding a screaming child forcing them to go on the ride. Cindy was quiet at first. But when the room started stretching she started whimpering louder and louder. Eventually Jedi was quiet because he was in awe of how out of control Cindy got. Eventually as the story goes, Cindy threw up just before entering the moving floor and we were shown the back door. It was not our proudest parenting moment. So I was giggling over the horrendous stress I put my children through but mostly at the remembrance of Dh having to walk out with Cindy’s bile all squishy between his toes in his crocs. The good part of the giggling fits is that it seemed to keep Mr. Tentacles at bay. I had been afraid the darkness of the ride would have woken them up. Whew.

When we were exiting the Mansion we heard a CM calling out telling people there were 2 minutes until the next show at the Hall of the Presidents. So we went for it. We've never been. Okay, I have been when I was younger. But back then I didn't know the difference between a president and a prime minister. So it doesn't really count.

b00f5f51.jpg

I was feeling so confident in the lack of lineups that one our way to fantasy land to fit some rides in before dinner I got sidetracked by Cinderella’s coach. There looked like there were maybe 15 people in line. I thought to myself “wow what great timing.” And we got in line. Okay I got in line. Dh had to go for a bio break.

“I’m worried you’ll miss our turn. I think you should stay and wait.”

“I can’t wait. Just let other people pass by you if I’m not back yet.”

Hummptf.

So off he went. Luckily we had plenty of time to wait. How long does it take to take a couple of pictures? I waited 40 minutes in the lineup. I wanted to get out of it but the lineup was getting bigger and bigger by the minute. I knew I’d never make it back in so it was now or never. It felt like forever but we finally got up to the front. I was getting pretty nervous about our ADR’s. We had like 5 minutes to get there.

I took a picture of the loading booth the skyline ride (or whatever it was called) used to be. I also remember this ride as a child.

44e7955e.jpg

Here are the pictures. Not really worth the 40-minute wait if you ask me. We should have used the time to go on more rides.

So where did we go for dinner? Scroll down to the next post to find out or click here http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=37122028&postcount=318

Here’s a hint where we went for dinner.

33d00be0.jpg

Okay so it’s a big hint. I will admit to loving the Crystal Palace. It is without a doubt my favorite Disney restaurant and once again it didn’t disappoint. I still say the characters don’t give adult only groups as much attention but I can’t really blame that on the Crystal Palace. It’s an overall Disney thing.

I thought I took pictures at this meal but I can't find them. It's unlike me not to have taken photos of the meal. I know I wasn't too concerned about pics with the characters as we had seen some of them that morning but I could have sworn I took pics of our meal. Oh well, maybe they will show up later.

Oh I should mention that when we checked in, we were given a buzzer. The buzzer said “If found return to the crystal palace for a complimentary dessert” Dh thought that was funny as the restaurant is a buffet. How would they monitor people going in to get dessert and not a full meal? Regardless, I thought it was a good idea. I’m sure people “take” restaurant buzzers all the time. Not me of course.

Here is there info on their celebration packages.

After dinner, we did the carpets and saw Captain Hook.

Then we hightailed it to the Pirates of the Caribbean. This ride was a run-on. There was no line up. Again we must have just hit it at the right time.

Here is my sad attempt to take some pictures.

550cfac9.jpg

We went through our first Candy trick or treat lineup outside of Pirates. Nothing was chocolate. I was disappointed. But I knew this was just the first of many. There had to be some chocolate out there somewhere.

Here is a dark and fuzzy picture of the trick or treat walk entrance.

3ce48289.jpg

Then we made our way over to tomorrowland where we did Buzz. The lineup was pretty negligible for this ride. Here is one score on Buzz. I can't remember whose it was. I just know that Dh beat me this time.

b9ef7d0b.jpg

Pretty sad score I know.

Here is my red necked photo of us.

0afee492.jpg

We did another candy walk and once again no chocolate. I decided not to bother with them anymore. Dh couldn’t pass them up though. The thought of something “free” was too good for him to pass up. So I went with him. But often I didn’t even give the CM’s my bags to fill up.

Here is the entrance sign for the treat walk. This one was long and crowded.

569275c2.jpg

There was a themed show in the theatre by COP. We stopped to watch for a couple of minutes.

4aa26663.jpg

We decided to do Astro Orbiter.

3cd48f5c.jpg

I’ve never been on this ride before. We had to wait for 4 elevators before it was our turn. Which I think is pretty good for this ride. It was starting to get cold. Once we got out of the elevator I really noticed the wind. I started thinking about that hoodie I hadn’t got yet.

I didn’t enjoy the ride. I was too afraid that something would fall out of my spaceship. I was cold from the wind and too full from dinner. It’s just as well the trick or treating didn’t have any chocolate otherwise I may have had another regurgitation story to tell. I wasn’t feeling very well on that ride. I have some vertigo issues. Too many ear infections from all those years of teaching swimming lessons when I was younger. So I’m afraid I can’t endorse Astro. I’m glad I finally went on it but I probably won’t do it again.

About this time we stalked out a spot for Halloween Wishes. We decided to stake out a spot on the tomorrowland bridge. We wanted to lean against the bridge but people with large hats decided to stand right in front of us. Then they brought in the rest of their family. Then they decided to hoist some of the kids up on their shoulders. This is why I don’t usually go to the fireworks and the parades. I can’t take the rudeness. So we gave up our leaning spot and moved away from the big hat-ed family.

I don’t have a fancy camera and what I do have, I don’t understand. I have a nighttime setting and a setting that I think is supposed to do fireworks. But I’m a point and shoot girl. So that’s what I did. While I love ogling all the fabulous pictures on these boards, I don’t have any inclination to attempt that type of photography. But I really admire others who do.

311a1fe1.jpg

b402f237.jpg

After the fireworks, which were lovely, but I was still cold and a bit too aware of too many bodies too close to me, we went on Buzz again. This time I blew Dh away. I got a perfect score. Here is my proof.

dfe81ba4.jpg

Yet another rednecked photo. Plus it proves whose score belongs to whom.

c5cb8d26.jpg

We decided to watch the parade from where liberty square morphs into the castle. Once again we staked out our spots. We got there at least 25 minutes early. That being said there were still lots of people there. I entertained myself watching two CM’s flirting with each other. Oh to be young again. Sigh.

I took a pretty castle picture. I was trying to figure out my nightime settings.

bb5d6366.jpg

I got bored watching them and took off to get me some popcorn.

“Why don’t you just have some candy?”

Even if it was chocolate I would still want popcorn. I’m going to use one of our snack credits so it won’t cost anything.

As soon as I said that you could see Dh’s eyebrows unfurl. This is why I love the meal plan. Of course we were getting free dinning so I loved it even more. If I had to of paid for that popcorn Dh would have been in a funk the rest of the night.

Just minutes before the parade started a family squeezed in behind us. They had two strollers. I knew they were there by the nip I felt on my calves. Their 2 year old was kicking me.

“Don’t kick the nice lady” says the mom.

I look back and notice they actually have three kids. Two in strollers and one just out of a stroller. Maybe 6ish, while the others looked around 4 and 2 years of age.

The guilt started to sink in.

How could I let these poor kids watch the parade through my legs?

Ow. The kid kicked me again.

“Didn’t I tell you not to kick the nice lady?”

On the flip side how could I put up with being kicked in the calves the whole parade?

I couldn’t take it. I gave the family our front row seats. Dh and I stood behind them. The guilt (and the pain) wouldn’t have let me enjoy the parade. And enjoy the parade I intended to do. Here are my horrible parade pics.

cd62a02b.jpg

837768b9.jpg

This is Jack Sparrow.

0af5f5e2.jpg

I thought the starting song “Boo to you” was very catchy. I wanted to get the soundtrack but since it wasn’t on the meal plan Dh talked me out of it. Anyhow, I really liked the parade. I’m glad we attempted to watch it, and will try to make an effort to get past my hatred of crowds to watch some others. The fireworks I think I like better in pictures than in person.

After the parade passed, Dh and I decided to make a run for it and try to beat it to take the bus home. We just missed it. So we were stuck watching the parade again beside the barbershop. I was still in hot pursuit of a hoodie so I wandered the shops for a bit. I didn’t feel I had enough time to wander (who ever does?) so when the parade was over Dh decided to head back to the resort but I decided to stay. He wasn’t thrilled with that idea, but he was Done. With a capital “D”. There was no more Disney love in him. Let’s be honest, there isn’t that much in there anyway. I decided to risk him being mad at me and stay by myself for a bit. I didn’t know for sure when I would get back and I wasn’t ready to say goodbye yet.

So we parted. Dh told me later that there were 9 people on his bus. There were too many to count on mine. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

I wandered through the stores. I almost bought many things but in the end bought nothing.

I looked at my watch and noticed it was time for the villains show at the castle. I decided to brave it and head out. The show was cute. It wasn’t too crowded and yet there were enough people there to block the wind.

48e92d3f.jpg

After the show I contemplated going on another ride. But even I was tired. I sat on a bench and did some people watching for a bit. I wondered when I’d make it back again. I knew the kids might be coming to Disney for a dance competition in July but nothing was confirmed yet. I had yet to even tell Dh of that possibility.

Finally when I could stand the cold no longer, I made my way towards the exit. In my head I said a final goodbye as I passed through. Goodbye castle, Goodbye Casey’s. Goodbye bakery. Goodbye hat shop. Goodbye Tony’s. Goodbye statues. Goodbye train station. Goodbye. Goodbye. Goodbye.

Dh was sound asleep when I returned back. Although I was weary, I wasn’t ready to sleep. I ran myself a nice hot bath and read a book to wind down before joining Dh.

Up next our departure day and how does Dh take the news of a potential Dance Competition trip next July? Click here to find out. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=37505434&postcount=340
