My last chapter had us leaving us house in Canada (much later than I would have liked thank you Dh!), crossing the border into Buffalo and checking into the Millennium Hotel after 2am.
I set a wake up call for 7:30am. I wanted to get to some shopping in. Specifically Target. I just love that place.
I would have loved to hit some other stores as well but I didnt figure I had the time. Our plane was leaving at 1pm. Had I actually gotten up at 7:30 and skipped breakfast maybe I could have. But I didnt.
Dh had found a great deal on Travelzoo.com for this hotel. We got a free breakfast and parking for three nights for $99. Yay Dh!
He was happy about it. It was one of the only things he was happy about. As you may remember Dh tends to be a bit a grumpy about Disney. I was still shocked he agreed to this trip.
But it turns out Dh had a plan for the morning. He wanted to check out Costco. He figured it would be the cheapest place to buy beer. He had programmed the nearest location into out GPS and wanted to make a morning out of it.
Now dont get me wrong. Costco is lovely too but its just not in the same category as Target. For one, we have Costcos in Canada while sadly we do not have Targets. Besides, Dh couldnt buy beer to take home anyway. We were already bringing Baileys for my parents. We had used up our liquor allowance. He had forgotten that little fact. He was grumpy for a few moments. I had to use all my wifely persuasions to get him out of it. Plus I reminded him of our free breakfast. He was smiling again in no time.
Happy once again, Dh and I showered and got ready for the day. Our waitress at the restaurant had the same name as me. Meeting people with the same name as our family happened all day long. It was weird.
Our free breakfast was a standard plate. You could choose from bacon or sausage but otherwise you were stuck with 2 eggs, toast and home fries. We were fine with that. Dh wanted some fruit so we ordered a fruit plate. When it came time to pay my namesake for our fruit (and a tip) we both realized that neither of us had bought our wallets or the hotel key. Opps!
I ordered a refill of my coffee and sat by myself while Dh went to the front desk and explained our situation. It was hard to sit still (it was decaf coffee so it was nerves not caffeine) when I wanted to get going on my day. I had shopping to do.
What seemed like ages later, Dh returned with some money and we headed off to Target. Okay so I headed off to Target. Dh dropped me off. He went to Wal-Mart himself, to pick up a 6 pack of beer for the weekend. Why he couldnt just get it at Target I dont know. But he was determined so I let him. I shouldnt have. But hindsight is 20/20. Besides that would mean I could wander the aisles alone. Without a grumpy Dh at my side.
That is indeed what I did. I wandered. I had 50 minutes before Dh was due back. I walked through all the departments except the womens clothing. I knew I didnt have time to try things on. So I only skimmed past it. I did pick up a basic black turtleneck that was on the outskirts of the aisle. I didnt write down the price but it wasnt a great deal. Yes, I already have one but its showing signs of wear and it would be time to replace it soon. I ended up not getting it thinking I didnt need it immediately and could pick up something in Canada if I needed too. Again, another mistake. I could have used the turtleneck.
But back to my solitude aisle roaming. I picked up some fleece one-piece pajamas for the kids. They love them and they were even on sale this weekend. Score! I picked up a few of the dryfit clothes they have for kids. Its hard to find plain white and black dryfit T-shirts for kids and since my son dances he needs them. I might have thrown in a cute top or two for my DD. Actually I did pick up the top she wore for her school photo. I also got some other goodies for the kids like coloured goldfish, cookie crisp cereal and Frankenberry cereal. None of which we have in Canada. I picked up my favorite Chex cereal for myself. I also bought some snacks for the weekend, trashy magazines for the plane, and some travel toothpaste for the trip. All in all I managed to spend under $100 so I was pretty proud of myself. My cashiers name was the same as my DD9s. Even the spelling was the same. That makes two namesakes today.
After saying goodbye to my daughters namesake I went and waited by the entrance for Dh. I even got a hot chocolate while I was waiting.
He was late.
As always.
Finally he shows up. He had to go to two Wal-Marts to get his beer. I never wrote down which kind. Im not a beer drinker.
So finally we head back to the hotel to check out and catch our shuttle. Only we have missed our 11am shuttle. It pulls away as we pull in. I try not to be hostile towards Dh. We can still make the 11:30 and all will be right. Or so I hope.
I organize our purchases by taking out the things I need to pack in our luggage to take and leave the rest in the van. Again, I second-guess myself about the turtleneck. But apparently Florida is experiencing extremely warm weather so maybe I can pick it up on the way home.
We head to the hotel room to grab out bags and check out. Octopus man has other ideas but perhaps he shouldnt have been so late to pick me up at Target we might have had time. But we dont so I shoo him off and keep moving.
We check out at the front desk. The desk clerk has the same name as Dh. That makes three namesakes. Dh takes our overnight bag we arent hauling to Disney out to the Van. I wait. Its beginning to feel like Déjà vu.
Naturally the shuttle arrives. So does an extremely large family. The shuttle is full. The driver says he has room for me but no one else.
Well, Im waiting for husband. I say.
Where are you going? the driver asks.
Disney. I reply (picture big happy smile on my face)
Ill be your husband for ya. Id love a trip to Disney he jokes.
I laugh it off.
What time is your flight? He asks.
1:50pm I reply.
Okay Ive got to take this load here and Ill be back for you. You should make your flight no problem if you take the next shuttle. And with that he closed his doors and took off.
Dh arrives as the shuttle drives out of the driveway. He wonders why Im grumpy.
We get the next shuttle. Another large family shows up but this time we all fit. They are from Canada too. About 25 minutes away from our hometown. Their son has the same name as my DS11. Chalk it up to four namesakes now. They are all wearing matching t-shirts. It reminds me of our last family trip when I made everyone do that too. I feel a small musing of guilt for going without the kids again. It passes pretty quick once we arrive at the airport.
Check-in is a breeze. We are flying southwest and I had forgotten about their 24-hour early check-in thing. We have been assigned B41 and B42. Not great but if we dont sit together Im okay about it.
Were hungry so we head to the anchor bar for lunch. Dh has 10 wings and I have the chicken nuggets. Its pretty crowded in there but the food is good. Better than your average airport fare anyway.
Here is me with the menu.
We do get seats together on the plane. We sit beside someone with the same name as Dh. The number is up to five now. Hes from Canada too. His family is the aisle beside him.
I got a window seat. Here is the view of another plane out my window.
A flight attendant comes by to offer us snacks. Hes got the same name as my youngest son. Now we are up to six.
Its not that Im surprised that other people have our same names. They are pretty common. Its just that we dont usually see that many people on the same day with all our names. I start to wonder what it means. Is someone trying to tell me something?
There are some heavy winds and we land a bit later than expected.
We pick up our own luggage. I didnt put the magic express tags on them. I feel better getting them off the plane myself.
Once of the companies outside of the luggage pickup had a very elaborate Halloween ship set up. I couldn't resist taking a picture of it.
I should know my way around that airport by now but once again we get thrown off by the A side and B side and end up on the wrong side of the airport. It is clearly stated on the signage.
I tried to catch the Halloween decorations on the fake airport monorail.
Finally we make our way to the magic express desk.
Now, if you were following my last trip report than you know that I had pulled the wool over Dhs eyes. He thought we were staying at POP. But actually I had upgraded us to Coronado Springs Resort. Our paperwork still said POP. I had went to the desk by myself but the moment of truth was coming up. We were about to enter the red carpet and follow the sign to our resort for the weekend.
Stay tuned to find out how Dh took the news.
