OPC= Other People's Children
My DH and I are heading to WDW for our first trip in seven years. We have decided that it would be a magnificaent idea for a childless by choice couple to be accompanied by.....kids! Two to be exact. The best 2 kids in the world! Well, 2 of the best, anyway! Let me introduce our cast:
ME!
37. Disney has never been an obsession, until we started planning this trip. Now, thanks to these boards, I know all!
I am an Animal COntrol Officer, meaning I work with animals and their pets all day (ohhh, that was bad!) I have been working 7 days a week, about 50+ hours each week, due to having a pansy partner who hurt his wrist 18 months ago. Shoveling snow! Not even a dog-related injury! WIMP!
Luckily, his injury has helped to finance some extras for this trip. You'll have to read on to find out what they are!
DH:
37. DIsney is OK, as long as I do the planning. Is happy with everything I have planned, but doesn't know if he's really missing anything!
Just rolls his eyes and says "whatever honey. You know I'm OK with whatever you do!" Also works 50+ hours weekly as the service manager at a tire place. He loves cars and motorcycles, pretty much anything with an engine.
DNiece1:
12 going on 18. Not raised in a Disney house. Never thought she would see WDW until she saved enough to do it herself. Her mom is my SIL, DH's sister. She is in 7th grade, and is a good kid. They both are, honestly. She hates Ariel
, who happens to be one of my favorites. She loves Pluto and the Winnie the Pooh characters. Hates Goofy!
DNiece2:
10 going on 6. See above for further description. She is in 5th grade, and is a bit of a PITA! She has the memory of a goldfish. She often asks the same question 20 times, and doesn't remember the answer. Says, "So wait, I don't understand. Why/ What is..........." 423 thousand times a day. Still a good kid. She LOVES Tink, Cinderella, Mickey, Donald, and the other Princesses. Also hates Goofy. Which is funny, because the DH and I really don't like him either!
So anyway.....I love my girls. The DH and I are childless by choice. He was neutered right after we got married. Then, I actually ended up getting spayed about 2 years later due to medical issues. No biggie. Stopped Aunt Flo from visiting, so it's pretty cool!
I joke with everyone that our house is 100% spay/neuter compliant. The girls were 1 and just turned 3 when the DH and I met, so I've been around to see those little twerps grow up. I saw their mom and dad split up, and helped them adjust. I've tried to be the best auntie possible. Unfortunately, not everyone in the family remembers that theyare growing up. People have a tendancy to promise them things, and then forget it. Even mom and dad. So, when the DH and I told them we were planning a trip to WDW, and would they like to come with us, they were like "Yea, sure. Whatever." So, of course, I ran ahead with the plans, full speed ahead. The girls weren't as excited as I hoped, but I was too excited myself to really pay much attention. They have been saving money, and working odd jobs for the DH and I (he has them cleaning and organizing the car and motorcycle parts in his shed this weekend, for $25 each!). Well, when we hit the 30 day mark on the 17th, I brought them a surprise. Well, another surprise! I had made them a countdown calendar
When I took it over to their house, their eyeballs just popped out of their heads. Suddenly, they were talking about the trip and getting real excited. I just couldn't figure it out! I asked them if they wanted to go for an ice cream, they happily clambered into my Jeep, and off we went. When we were sitting down, I asked them why they were suddenly so happy, when they hadn't been that excited before. After much tooth-pulling, the oldest finally admitted that they didn't really want to get their hopes up, because they figured we would cancel the trip, like eveyone else does! I could have cried. I asked them if they hadn't figured out by now that when we said we were going to do something with them, we did it. I asked them how often we had cancelled something we planned, and the only thing they came up with was a cancelled night of bowling. And the only reason we cancelled was because my DH's brother, their uncle, was killed in a motorcycle accident 2 days before. They were then very sad and upset for doubting us, and we all cried over our ice cream. It was a very emotional moment. Needless to say, the girls were very excited that the trip was definitely on, and have been talking about it non-stop the last 10 days. I now realize that if they had been like this the last 6 months, I may have had to kill them. Anyway, the DH is bellowing from the other room, and I've got to go. Stick around, there are many surprises in store. The girls know we are going to WDW, but they don't have any details. Check back, and I'll let you in on all the secrets!
