Our recent March 29 "Mystery" cruise gives credence to the advantage of booking DCL excursions. When many were canceled due to the inability of the ship to get to the port, all were automatically credited back to your onboard account. Those who booked private excursions on their own were at the mercy of the policies of those providers. I know some on our ship were out $$$ because of this. I guess you have to weigh the difference in the amt. of the DCL cruise excursions vs. those of independent operators and what their refund policies would be if you end up being a 'no show.'

Ppiew that is exactly the main reason we book our excursions through DCL. Our very first cruise was back in 1998 when Hurricane Bonnie hit. We'd booked a Nassau tour for the morning and snorkeling for the afternoon. When the announcement was made that we were pulling out of port early (no time to do the afternoon snorkeling) it wasn't even something we had to think about.

Although my 3 excursions for the August Western were made outside of DCL,I do see an advantage of the DCL sponsored excursion - if you are late, the ship will wait!!!!!

Rae, you are so right!!
When we were on one of our RCCL trips, we were running very late. Thankfully, it was RCCL sponsored so the ship had to wait for us.
We've never cut it that close on DCL, but almost every excursion we've done has run late. Don't book anything like spa appointments right after the stated excursion time as running late seems to be a very common thing (sometimes almost an hour!). We cut it close with a spa a couple times but quickly learned our lesson. Now, on our May Western, we'll be leaving lots of leeway.
