Day 6 (05 Aug 12) AK and Hoop de Doo
Trip Intro/Index here.
Back on track with the plan for today. Up early again and arrived at AK just after 09:10. First stop was to call at Expedition Everest to obtain Fastpasses, which we did for 10:05. As the standby queue was only showing 10 minutes, we decided to have a go there and then and virtually walked straight on. After riding, we went back for another ride where we waited for around 5 mins.
Okay two rides down and still only 09:40. A walk round to Khali River Rapids which was showing a 10 mins wait, but again we were straight through to the loading area. By the time we came off, it was almost time to obtain another Fastpass, so I hot footed over to Kilamanjiro Safari where return times were 11:10 (standby queue 20 mins). Then back to Expedition Everest to use our 10:05 Fastpass, followed by another visit to Khali River Rapids.
As the heat was building, we made our way over to watch the 11:00 showing of Nemo, and as we were out by 11:40, we called for another Khali Fastpass (now for 1:10pm) before using our Safari Fastpass. We were straight on the Safari, but it was noticeable that in the heat of midday, a lot of the animals were asleep or in the shade. However, it didnt detract from the ride, which we enjoyed.
Once off, we headed back to Asia for some lunch at Andaphur Local honey chicken, a chicken fried rice and kids chicken nuggets plus a frozen lemon dessert and two bottles of water used up 2 CS credits and a snack credit.
We had around half and hour before our FP time for Khali River Rapids was open, and we were standing around when a gent came up and offered us three FPs for Everest, which we gratefully accepted and filled the time. As our FP time came around, we snagged some more for Khali River Rapids (for 4:20pm), and then rode and got soaked!!
With the time now at 2:00pm, we walked across the park to the Festival of the Lion Kings just as we arrived at Camp Minnie Mickey, the rain started and poured down. Fortunately, as we arrived at the theatre, the doors opened so we could at least start to dry out. As ever, the show was a fantastic production, the only downside being that since our last visit, the four animals are put away before the audience is allowed to leave who doesnt want a picture taken with Pumbah?
Anyhow, as the rain was still falling heavily, we took the decision to return back to OKW, and reciprocated the earlier Fastpass gift by passing on our Khali FPs to a family just entering the park. A short walk to the car, and we were back at OKW a shade before 4:00pm.
Tonight we had booked for Hoop de Doo, so we were in the car by 6:20pm on our way to Fort Wilderness. We caught the resort mobile fridge sorry, bus!! - over to Pioneer Hall where we checked in, and had a look at some of the horses that are stabled at the resort.
We were let into the hall just before 7:30pm where our table was ready with the first course that cornbread is fatal as you just cannot say no!!!! The entertainment was as good as we remembered from our last visit, and there were copious amounts of chicken and ribs plus the sides. Our server was excellent in keeping our drinks topped up, and we barely had room for a thin slither of the strawberry shortcake.
All too soon the show was over, and we were back on another fridge to the vistors car park it looked as if most people on the bus would have frostbite if they had stayed on much longer! A quick drive back to OKW arriving back around 9:30pm, and an early night as we were off to Discovery Cove tomorrow for Joannes birthday surprise.
