Day 16 (15 Aug 12) – Laaaazy Day

Trip Intro/Index here.

What’s all this planning thing about!!!! Todays plan was to spend a few hours around the pool whilst getting as much washing done and dried as possible, then over to MK mid-morning, with an evening visit to EPCOT and dinner at the Rose & Crown.

However, with the two ladies enjoying a lie-in until 9:30, and as a man genetically unable to operate the Disney laundry machines without close supervision, we didn’t make it poolside until 10:30 and as a result, decided to spend longer around the pool and to have lunch from the Turtle Shack snack bar. Washing done and dried, Joanne and myself both had ham and cheese sandwich with fruit cup and water, Alex having a pizza and water.

About 1:30 we managed to drag our bodies back to the room, and changed for a visit to Celebration – every year we have planned to do this and never managed, so yet another first for us. We spent a pleasant hour or so wandering around the shops and the area before returning to OKW for an ice cream to use up some of our remaining 22 snack credits.

Fast forward a few hours, and we find ourselves driving up to Hospitality House to catch the boat to DTD. We just see one leaving as we are arriving, but as we park up, a DTD bus arrives so we are off. As noted above, we had planned to be at EPCOT tonight, but Alex wanted to try Bongos, so the change was made last week. We had an hour and a half to kill at DTD, so the shops beckoned. However, by 7:00 we were all hungry so decided to go over to Westside and see if Bongos could seat us early – they could, smiles all round!!

We were seated in one of the booths off the main dining area, and we chose the Cuban Tour (myself), fish skillet (Joanne) and shrimp in garlic sauce (Alex) – all three of us enjoyed our meals. For dessert, only Joanne and myself had one – the coffee mousse and a vanilla/cream dessert (the name escapes me). With soft drinks, the bill would have come to $119, but 3 TS credits used.

For some reason, we were all feeling extremely tired, so decided on an early night. As we were walking back to the landing stage for the boat, one was coming on so we made a dash and managed to catch it. However, just as we departed, lightening appeared even nearer and the boat service was suspended. We were dropped back off at Westside, and the dozen or so passengers were left to walk to the Pleasure Island Bus station to wait in an exposed bus stop with no cover – go figure which we felt was more risky!!! No bus appeared for 25 minutes, and the dispatcher didn’t seem interested at all. When an OKW bus eventually arrived, it was absolutely rammed full, and as another bus appeared immediately behind , it did seem that there had been a problem with the service.

Eventually, almost an hour after originally setting off on the boat, we arrived back at Hospitality House, and picked up the car for the short drive back to our accommodation.
