Day 13 (12 Aug 12) Split Shift at EPCOT
Trip Intro/Index here.
Another change to the plan. Having originally planned to visit EPCOT yesterday, we moved our visit to accommodate our BCR visit (on the basis of the weather forecast!!). We all had a lie in this morning, so didnt reach EPCOT until 10:00, and managed to pick the bag queue with the secondee from Homeland Security talk about thorough!!!! We immediately got fastpasses for Soarin for 1:10, then went to watch the Timone, Pumbah and Simba film about the environment we had to smile as for all the good messages given in this film, it does seem a bit strange that most of the bottles, tins and cardboard food containers in the parks all get dumped together!!!
We then had a ride on Nemo, followed by Turtle Talk excellent interaction with the crowd, and when one small child forgot his question for Crush, it was explained away as a Dory moment sweeeeet!!
We then had a stroll around Innovations, before visiting Spaceship Earth which we have never done before. A stroll back to Electric Umbrella for lunch, where Joanne and myself both had the Swiss Angus Cheeseburger plus fruit cups, and Alex chicken nuggets and fries this must have been the largest CS meal we had eaten, we were absolutely stuffed!!
We then waddled back over to Soarin, where FPs were available for 6:50, which tied in well with our revised dining plans for the evening, so three were obtained. Soarin is Joannes favourite ride in EPCOT, and in all honesty, without Test Track there is very little else to keep us in EPCOT.
So after riding Soarin, we made our way back to OKW via Walgreens to pick up our photos from the waterproof camera we had used at DC and TL, shoved the washing in the laundry facilities by the Turtle Shack pool, and went back to the room for a quick change into swimming gear before returning to the pool.
Having remembered our resort mugs, refills were obtained and we settled down for a few hours chilling and met my work colleague who had travelled over with us, but we hadnt seen since we the Alamo desk at MCO!! We had a catch up on what we had been doing, during which the weather decided to intervene with a rather heavy shower lasting some 20 minutes. We stayed chatting until after 5pm, but as we had our Fastpass for Soarin plus a dinner reservation at Chefs de France for 7:40, we left to get changed for the evenings activities.
A quick hop over to the Beach Club, from where we walked down to EPCOT and Soarin for our 6:50 fastpass time, following which we made our way back to Chefs de France. In passing, we were due to eat at Teppan Edo the previous evening, but couldnt get the same restaurant for today due to our change of plans.
However, we were all looking forward to the meal. Joanne and myself ate from the three course menu French Onion Soup for us both, with macaroni with Gruyere and cream for myself and braised short rib for Joanne. However, neither of us were particularly enamoured with our selections, so we swapped!!! Alex had the roast chicken for main which she enjoyed. For dessert, Joanne and myself shared the mixed sorbet and the crème brulee, with Alex having a portion of ice cream, whilst watching Illuminations from the restaurant. Total cost would have been $132, but only used 3 TS credits.
I suspect that our large lunch played a part in us not really enjoying our mains, but we did enjoy the appetizer and dessert maybe another choice of main would have been better.
However, we were again stuffed to capacity, and again almost waddled back to the Yacht Club where we caught the second half of Nemo on the big screen on the beach (another first for us). We then made our way back to OKW for a hopefully good nights sleep before our visit to Blizzard Beach in the morning.
