Today it was drizzling this morning, but by early afternoon the clouds started to break up. I decided to drive to Redondo Beach & check out the sea... (Click on pics for a larger view)

This pic was taken above Torrance Beach, and is looking out towards the Redondo Beach Pier. El Segundo would be about where the curve ends - LAX airport is just beyond that.

This is a view of Torrance Beach, looking out to Palos Verdes Peninsula.

I drove around the Palos Verdes Peninsula, and saw some people looking over the side.

This is a view looking towards Los Angeles. Down below to the left are surfers.

Surfers are a dedicated group -- they had to find parking up on top of a cliff and then carry their surfboards down a trail to go out on the water. I saw guys walking from their homes, surfboards strapped to their cars, and even riding their bikes up & down the hills to catch some waves today.

You can see the trail they walked down in this pic.

Here's a pic that locals might recognize ... if they're old enough ... (Hermosa11?)

This is the entrance to Marineland that used to be on the Palos Verdes Peninsula until it was torn down in the late 70's. Now it's the entrance to apartments and condos.

By the time I drove around the peninsula it got quite foggy, so I couldn't take anymore pics...

I did drive past the new Trump golf course - it looks like they're almost done with it. If you saw the first Apprentice, the winner had a choice of working on a high rise back east, or working to build a golf course in Los Angeles.

But, here are pics of the Wayfarers Chapel, also known as the Glass Chapel, taken in September. Down below is called Abalone Cove, and it was used by pirates in the 1800's... Also, in more recent history, this area was one of the locations for the Pirates of the Caribbean movie -- I never did go down to take pics of the movie sets down there...

This is a very popular place for weddings, as you can see here.

... and tonight I got to enjoy my kitty Koda, so here he is, just because.

Nice pictures :) I enjoyed looking at them. I look outside today and all i see is snow. Brrrrrrr.

Great pictures, thanks for sharing.

Very nice, MJ. Relaxing looking, very pretty.

Are the first ones with new camera? You like it?? Also, is that near where we ate dinner that night, on the pier?

Love the Koda one, very neat.

Yup - this is with the new camera - the Canon S2 IS. I love it! The only trouble I have with it is that the lens cap doesn't snap on, so if I'm not careful it comes off.

The first pic is taken from the area we had a view of when we ate at Tony's Fish Market on Redondo Beach Pier. That was such a fun evening. I still remember how you had Nick in stitches over "fried chicken on Thanksgiving." ;) (which also reminds me of the time we were at California Adventure in the pouring rain & the two of you were just giggling yourselves silly when you came out of the men's room at Hollywood Backlot. -- they remain very nice memories).

Koda is one of my babies. I have another one looks just like him, but orange, & they're brothers.

Beautiful! In the first few shots I could almost smell the salt air. I could use a little of that right now!

Thanks for sharing. I had a good friend who lived in Torrance - we travelled that area a lot. Missed Marineland when it was open, but was at a wedding just next door to that on a bluff overlooking the ocean. Tried to get friends to have their wedding at Wayfarer's Chapel - it's just beautiful. Also learned to drive a stick-shift down below near San Pedro.....

Memories! :)

(Tho those surfers never do seem to catch a wave...I always see them just waiting, and waiting.... ;) )

I recall living in Hermosa Beach in the early 1980's and seeing Catalina Island on the horizon as I drove home to my beachfront condo. It seems like a lifetime ago. Your photos have rekindled some fond memories of sunsets over the Pacific. Thank you for sharing.

I also am enjoying the new S2 IS. Try the video feature, not too bad for an addon. And I have read on a few forums, as well as called Canon, on the lens cap. It is designed to come off easily so it does not stay on when camera is turned on. I do not like it either. Also, no threads for a filter; I have always used a slylight for protection. I bet the S3 IS will correct, LOL.

I sure do recall both those times with you guys, good memories indeed. MJ.

Such nice pictures, Mary Jo. California has always been a place I've wanted to see--such gorgeous country. My college freshman roommate was from 29 Palms, and her senior class picture was taken in the dessert mountains--it was the coolest thing!

Koda is beautiful, too. He looks like he's about to enjoy a nice candle-lit dinner. :)

Aw Mary Jo, you just made a Southern Californian native VERY 'homesick' I do miss the coast, even though I've lived away for 12 years, those pictures sure do feel like home to me! Thanks for sharing them, they are beautiful and Koda is pretty gorgeous too!

Mary Jo...thanks for the pics....I was just there in Sept. for my sisters wedding. We even drove by Trumps golf course and took a few pics ourselves. Thanks for the memory of a lovely, lovely day. I just had such a good time. We will be moving back shortly but we will be heading up above LA so it will be a new experience for us.

Take care
Lisa
