A Photo Safari Halloween Solo Trip for Oct'13: Trip Report Started!

What wonderful news about your photography business and the sessions! I'm sure most of us here on the DIS know that they were wonderful pictures and the session turned out great! I know I would volunteer my family for a practice session. What a wonderful way to have a hobby at least pay for itself if nothing else.

Back to mission space...I'm in the camp of skipping it. My husband and I did the orange on one of our kidless trips and while I thought it was nauseating, he felt ill for the rest of the day. I did try to get him to start with green but he would hear nothing of it. Now, he will hear nothing of Mission Space! Luckily neither of our girls seem the least bit interested by it. Unfortuately, I think part of the not reacting well to it is an age thing, I'd rather skip it and still be young in my mind!

Thanks Christine! I would be perfectly content if I could make just enough money to buy new gear. :thumbsup2

I think it's becoming more and more likely that I will be skipping the Orange version. I still may try the Green version if I find myself having a strong urge to press two buttons. :lmao:

Yay for your ticket coming in!

I'm pretty relieved to be staying offsite and not even have a choice of Magic Band or no Magic Band. While it would be cool to "double dip" on old FP and FP+, I just don't think I want to deal with the headache involved if/when something doesn't work correctly. Since we won't be back until 2015, I'm sure the whole system will be in full swing, including offsite guests, so I'll just worry about it then. Until that time, I'm happy to navigate the parks with a system I know and understand!

That's really great about taking your photography further! The family session you did turned out great, so I doubt you will have any trouble getting that side business going. :thumbsup2

I used to be worried about our family trip coming up in January and how the newly rolled out MyMagic+ could negatively affect our experiences. But the sheer size of the testing phase with so many guests involved has me feeling less concerned because I think they will have identified and solved major glitches by then. I think. :lmao: We shall see but you can bet we will be at ropedrop everyday just in case the new FP+ system throws a kink in the wait times.

Speaking of family sessions, if you and your trio would like to have some pictures taken with all three of you in them during any of the times our park plans overlap or after our BOG dinner, let me know! Would be happy to do it (free of course!) and think it would be a lot of fun. :thumbsup2

:sad2: This week can't be over fast enough. As some of you may have gathered from my FB postings, the past 7 days have been testing my patience at work. It's either because A) all of the new colleagues that have joined the hospital in July are still extremely green and inexperienced or B) I'm just extra cranky this week and my tolerance for not-so-intelligent questions from them is at an all time low. I'm going to guess it's more reason B than A. ;)

Well, at least I get the three day weekend off with my family and by some miracle of a chance so does DW! This almost never happens when both of us are off on a long weekend - except for when we go to Disney. So we will be taking a fun and exciting trip to..........Columbus, Ohio.

Ok, definitely not as exciting as Disney. Really, how many places in the world is as exciting Disney? ;) But, we get to see family - ok, in-laws for me but we all get along so this should be fun, right? DFIL bought tickets to go see Cirque du Soleil......hmmm, okay that could be interesting. Never been to one. And it'll be the opening weekend for the college football season with the Ohio State Buckeyes playing a home game on Saturday.......oy, this could get a little painful. Yes, I'm not a Buckeye fan. At. ALL. 4 years living in Columbus didn't change that fact. Sadly, DW and inlaws are. And if I have to hear one more unsolicited emotionally charged defense of their program and their coach Urban Meyer.......:sad2:

Ok Ok. I think I'll primarily focus on the happy things about the trip. Cookout. Food. Family - and I really do mean it when I say that I have a good time with DW's extended family in Ohio. And I'll take my camera with me when we all go for dinner in the German Village. There has to be interesting photo ops there. If not, I'll just shoot a close up of my brother in law stuffing a pizza in his mouth. :goodvibes

Haven't added a safari item in a while so got one coming up!

Main Street Trolley Show

I've never seen one in person but this looks like fun. With so much dancing I think it'll have lots of interesting opportunities for pictures! And everyone in their turn-of-the-century costumes. Yes, I'll be definitely camping out center and snapping away!

I think will all your safari items you may only have time to sign in for your conference!!! :)

As for the weekend away and stressed nerves- well try to sit back relax and let the junk just go right by... A glass... Or bottle of wine helps!! As for Cirque - we have gone to 2 shows - one in NYC and the other in Disney - we really enjoyed both (if you can take you camera you should!!) We enjoyed the one on WDW more because it contained more acrobatics.... I would like to see the one in Vegas too.

Have a great weekend ;)

Hopefully it is all straightened out by your January trip. Since we won't be going until probably late in the year 2015, I'm thinking they SHOULD have it all ironed out by then, but it is Disney so who knows. ;)

Absolutely! That is so nice of you to offer, and I'm always bugging DH for family photos so you definitely don't need to twist my arm! :goodvibes:goodvibes

That's a great safari item! I have seen bits and pieces but never a full performance.

Hope you have a great Labor Day weekend! I really love Cirque shows myself, so I hope you enjoy it as well. :thumbsup2

As long as I sign in for my conference, I've met my attendance requirement right? ;) :lmao: I'm actually devising some super tight touring plans for the evenings with hitting all of the safari items in mind. But I keep getting tempted to spend more and more time over at the parks. We'll see how much my will power will hold.

Good to hear about Cirque. I think I'll like it but don't think they'll let me take photos. Been reading on the internet that photography of any kind is prohibited but I might be wrong.

And I'll take your advice and use the long weekend to relieve my stress. My alcohol tolerance is so pitifully low that it'll have to be a glass of wine rather than a bottle. ;)

Hope you have a great weekend too!

Hope you and your family have a great Labor Day weekend as well! I'm thinking I should at least track y'all down on MNSSHP and get a family photo with all of you in your costumes. ;)

I think I'll enjoy Cirque myself. I'm more worried about whether it can hold the attention of a 3 year old for the length of the show. :goodvibes

The main difference between Mission Space and EE is that the movements on EE are sudden and quick. Where MS is a build up and hold until it's over kind of thing.

Although, one other thing I forgot to point out. I did give a similar description and saying it's not so bad to my parents the last time they went and they told me it was nothing like I said. :rotfl2: it was way more intense for them and had they know before what they knew after riding they would have passed on riding it. :confused3 I think it took them a little bit for them to get over the ride. I still tend to think it's not that bad but I feel I'm in the minority.
I agree with this assessment of it. I really think it is a little bit better because it is a sustained feeling.

But then again, like I said, I'm a little weird. Roller coasters, especially EE, don't bother me a bit. I've always loved Star Tours, but the old version of it would actually make me have some motion sickness. MS Green did the same to me the first time I rode it, but I was stupid enough to try Orange and I honestly didn't think it made me anywhere near as motion sick as Green.:confused3

Actually, the death spiral sounds more exciting if someone fails to press the button. :lmao: In fact, if they had that feature I'm pretty sure there will be plenty of people like me who won't press the buttons on purpose just to crash! :rotfl:
I'm always getting in there flipping switches and hitting buttons when I'm not supposed to. I really wish it would make it do something crazy. :rotfl2::lmao:

That's great news about your photography hobby/potential business. The hobbies that actually make enough money to cover their expenses are the best kind! :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

By the way, nice win by the Gophers last night. :thumbsup2

Don't even get me started on the bucknuts. I don't have anything against Urban Meyer. I think he's a great coach, and I actually kind of like him. But those OSU fans... :sad2:

The good news is that the Boilers have had their number the past few years (should have won in the Horseshoe last year but blew it at the end :sad2:) so it has actually been fun. They come into West Lafayette, bring tons of people, talk a lot of trash and then leave in the third quarter with their heads hanging. :thumbsup2 :rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

Wouldn't it be just awesome if you hit the wrong button and you hear Gary Sinise going nuts in the audio saying things like "What did you do???" and "You killed us all!!" as the ride simulates a death spiral? :thumbsup2 :lmao: I would brave the Orange version just to hear Sinise do that.

Hey, you remembered that I went to U of Minn! :thumbsup2 Happy that they got the win but am very concerned that they will not hold up well once the Big Ten season starts. Both offense and defense made a lot of mistakes and were discombobulated at times. UNLV was not a good team so a lot of the points were off their mistakes (blocked FG returned for TD, INT returned for TD after UNLV's QB stared down his receiver for a million seconds, KO returned for TD). Oh well. At least they have a good chance for a return to a bowl game.

Oh, and I was rooting for Boilers during that game at the Horseshoe.

Well, you just mentioned the Minnesota thing in your fantasy football update. :rolleyes1

I didn't see the game last night. I wasn't home, but I did see the score. It looked good from that point of view anyway. :lmao:

I'm worried about Purdue's bowl chances this year. There was a much needed coaching change that I'm excited about, but he just doesn't have much to work with this year. I'm not used to seeing our QB situation be a weakness, and well, it is. Rob Henry is like a poor man's Tim Tebow, only smaller, has a knack for finding odd ways to get hurt, and probably not even as accurate of a passer. I like his speed and intangibles, but I'm used to seeing gunslingers in that offense. :worried:

Non conference schedule is even tough this year. On the road at Cincinnati tomorrow, Indiana State should be a W, but then Notre Dame, Wisconsin and Northern Illinois after that. Could be ugly, but I guess we'll have to see what the new offense looks like. :confused3

Sorry about the Boilers game on Saturday. Still think the hire for the coach was a good one. Just takes some growing pains especially when the cupboard is gutted by the previous coach. Don't I know it. It was pretty tough to watch a 3-9 season when Jerry Kill took over but he's slowly been rebuilding.

Just returned from our Labor Day Weekend trip to Columbus Ohio. Thanks to a lot of eating (and I mean a LOT of eating) I mostly enjoyed our trip. The kids had a blast. DW always enjoys seeing her family. And I survived opening weekend of Buckeye football. I could feel my skin crawling just a little as I sat in a BW3 during the game with my two brother-in-laws when every time the team would score someone would yell out "O-H" and then the entire restaurant respond "I-O". Sheesh. :rotfl:

Anyway, I think I'm well re-energized about going back to work tomorrow. AND, I'm only 54 days away from my trip!!! It's beginning to feel real!

49 for us!!! Can't believe we are less than 50 away! :woohoo:

I really feel like we'll be lucky to win 3 games. Indiana State is really the only W I see on the schedule at a glance. Northern Illinois will be a tough non-conference game even at home. They'll get 3 shots at maybe getting one against the "I" schools in the Big Ten schedule if they can get their act together by the end of the season. But let's be honest here. I'd be thrilled with a 2 win season if those 2 wins would come against Notre Dame and Indiana. :rotfl::lmao::rotfl2:

I can't say I was surprised about how awful the offense was Saturday, but the D line and linebackers about made me sick. I didn't expect to see them give up so much on the ground. That really should have been more of a strength than a liability. :headache:

:rotfl::lmao::rotfl2: I'm glad you were able to endure that. I went to a BW3 on the north side of Indy Saturday night when Iowa was playing. Apparently, there are a lot of Iowa alums in Indianapolis. They had half the restaurant taken up with all the TVs in that area on the Iowa game. Someone even brought in a stereo to play the fight song and other marching band music.

I was with a group of guys going to an indoor go-kart track for a bachelor party. Even though we were outnumbered, we became vocal Northern Illinois fans. I know, I'm bad... :rolleyes1 :lmao:

Whoa Dave I am Soooo far behind :rolleyes1 I will have to catch up over the weekend Been so busy animals, working, and tomorrow POP for me :)

Just wanted to say Hello :surfweb:

I don't see anything wrong with what you and your friends did. :rolleyes1 Seriously, someone had to remind them they're no longer in Iowa anymore. :lmao:

Hi Ruthie! Hope you have a good time at POP! Do you get to try out the Magic Bands?

Hi Dave! 53 Days!!!! How exciting for you! Getting caught up here now that we are back.

You mentioned the trolley show - a great photo op for sure! Capture the twirling skirts and if you have an eagle eye you will see some 2nd story windows open on Main Street for the sound system. (Shhhh Disney secrets you know!)

Sounds like you enjoyed your Ohio get away/weekend! :)
