A perspective from south FL.....

I voted for Bush. My county (the INFAMOUS Broward county of the 2000 election), voted over 60% for Kerry. I, for one, thought Kerry would easily win. Look at all the hype-celebrities, movies attacking the president, bumper stickers galore, talk, talk, and more talk. I am a full time student in education...need I say more?

Nobody was more surprised than me when Bush won FL! Then I thought about. I used to live in north Florida. It is a COMPLETELY different world. It is the south. South Fl is NOT the south. It is more like the north (I am originally from NJ).

People down here are in shock. Probably because of all of the loud talk going on for months. People who voted early proudly wore"I voted for Kerry"stickers and talked loudly about it. Bush supporters either kept quiet (as I did) or got attacked (I've seen this at school), but most stayed slient. My best friend, who has been very vocal about how much she likes Kerry and hates Bush for months, just found out YESTERDAY how I voted.

Sooooo, while it's been nothing but Kerry this and Kerry that for months, the Bush people went quietly to the polls and cast their vote-no movie, no concerts, no "I voted for Bush" stickers-I have yet to see ONE.

I wonder if those in parts of the country that really supported Bush saw an opposite reaction.....

I sometimes think all the bluster and braggadaccio serves to dilute the message.

I too live in a primarily Kerry-centered area. You might as well have told someone you had leprosy as told them you were considering vote for GWB.

Hmmm...interesting. While our area is primarily democratic, there are many, many Bush supporters and I found exactly the opposite to be true here. And even more so after he won the election. They went around spouting their opinions and pretty much challenging anyone to admit they supported Kerry.

You should have been in my neck of the woods. People were stealing the Kerry/Edwards signs from homes and yards. BTW I live in PA. If I may ask, what do you mean when you say you are a student of education....enough said? I couldn't quite understand the relevance.

I live in North West Fl. I must say I haven't seen very many Kerry signs in yards. Our county was the "reddest" county in the state. (with 78% of the county voting Bush)

I live in an area of metro Atlanta that is the "north" (and I am originally from NJ also!) - so I totally understand your statement! My county is overwhelmingly pro-Bush but I didn't see any evidence of nastiness toward Kerry supporters. I am actually pretty proud of how people conducted themselves in this emotional election.

I am pleased with the outcome, but had decided early on that this great country would be OK whichever candidate won.

What touched my heart most was when the news showed our troops in Iraq watching the election results and spoke with some of them who expressed their support for our President. That speaks volumes.
