I am traveling to Orlando in November and I too am slightly stressed about flying to the USA.
There is one thing, however, that should make us Canadians feel a little safer. I'm not sure if it is the case for all Canadian airports but this is how it works in Toronto:
All passengers flying from Toronto's Pearson International Airport to a United States destination must pre-clear American customs in the airport terminal before they can board the flight.
In addition to the physical security check which is itself more strict, passengers must also undergo an identification security check with the US customs officers and I would be willing to bet that those folks are extremely careful these days who they will admit into their country; consequentially, who will board the aircraft in Toronto.
And if they want to search "every little thing" in my bag I will remember that THEY'RE the ones doing ME a favour and I will cheerfully understand and co-operate.
I used to think that a thorough pre-flight search was an unnecessary and annoying inconvenience to airline passengers. That attitude disappeared on September 11th.
