A note from a 3rd grade teacher

This kind of statement always makes me suspicious that in fact someone isn't completely confident in their assertion, rather looking to bolster perception of their choice whenever a possible opening presents itself. I'm sure homeschooling has produced some tremendous results. I'm also sure that a school-based education has quite a bit of merit as well.

There is no ulterior motive in my statement as you're implying. We have just had some really bad experiences with teachers. :confused3

I know this is going to derail the thread (sorry OP!), but I have to say something in response to the above.

Your statement is totally ludicrous. Maybe, just maybe, when someone says they're glad they homeschool so they don't have to deal with issue "x," it simply means --gasp!-- they are glad they homeschool so they don't have to deal with issue "x".

If a public school parent says, "I'm so glad we public school so I don't have to deal with issue 'y'," does it mean they are insecure about public schooling?

Or is it only homeschoolers who are insecure and actually mean the opposite of what they say?

Maybe the fact that you're "suspicious" means you are secretly insecure about your choices. ;) See how that works?

As a former public school teacher and graduate of a state university that awards hundreds of teaching degrees each semester, I have no reason to doubt that a letter like this could have been written by a college-educated, state certified teacher, even one with a master's degree. I could name a few off the top of my head.

On another note, let's not start an acrimonious exchange about homeschooling and whose qualified. Typically, the more education a homeschool parent has, the more likely she (or sometimes he) will be in successfully preparing her children for academic pursuits. Nevertheless, as a homeschooling parent of 16 years and as a teacher and administrator for various homeschool co-ops, I have known many women with only a high school education who have provided their children with a sound college preparatory education.

Ouch - wrong whose - who is would be who's, right? Or am I misreading the sentence?

Saw an email from someone trying to pass the teacher tests our state requires - she was 'discusted' that she had to take the test for the umpteenth time.

Seems like this teacher would benefit from some developmental assistance.

So, is the mother going to get her son evaluated and possibly some academic help?
