A not so "young" Cinderella

Also, some of the theatrical makeup that may be used can "age" someone. If you ever watched the Miss America pageant, some of those girls are 19,20 years old but look much older due to hairstyle and the heavy makeup. I used to do some theatre in school, and I hated that stuff-made me break out.

I am sure the age thing can be tricky. Like another poster pointed out some of these characters are very young in the movies and they don't hire children at Disney. I thought the Peter Pan when we were there looked the part with the exception that he looked in mid-20's. The princesses we saw were very pretty and looked the part. But I have seen some pics on here where I thought the princesses we saw fit the character better. We saw two Mary Poppins and one was so perfect we couldn't believe it. She had the attitude and everything down. The other looked the part but didn't have her strict mannerisms.

Oh well another reason to keep going back to check out all the different people playing the characters. princess:

I agree with the OP. I have seen a couple who I thought were downright mean and ugly. They are Malificent and Cruella DeVille. Nasty, nasty. Why Cruella actually yelled at me during a parade and told me to quite clapping. Can you believe it? My family got quite a chuckle over that one! The Disney magic makes everyone (except those two and probably a few others) beautiful and perfect!

The little ones know the deal. They don't care how Snow White or Cinderella, or anyone else looks. To them, they're magical nonetheless.

Looks to me like a few could stand to learn a thing or two from the little ones.

They just wear regular make up.

I think the fairytale said she lived happily ever after. I did not read anything about her finding the fountain of youth.

I was told by a friend of mine who is a "greeter" that sometimes the characters are chosen to closely resemble the ones they currently have on hand. Thus the resemblance may (over the years) gotten away from what the movie character actually looks like. :teacher:

Also- I am aware of a one wonderful Snow White friend who was promoted to being Fairy Godmothers friend. I think this is awesome. Someone who has created magic for literally millions of people thru the course of time. :goodvibes

:offtopic: Now all that being said....make sure that you too check the mirror folks. None of us are getting any younger and those jeans/shorts/shirt we wore 20lbs ago may not look so wonderful on us while we tour the park. I am really not trying to be mean here - but I see some of the most awful things some days it can be quite scary. :rotfl2:

The princesses are always perfectly dressed and look good. :thumbsup2

I have no comments to make about the characters themselves because I've yet to see any but...

I think that having a more normal looking Cinderella or Snow White etc might not be a bad thing...

If little girls see the idea of what beauty is at a young age they may be more excepting of their own physical traits when they get older...not everyone is five foot nine and 120 pounds. I think the more 'real' a princess is, the more it will seem realistic to young girls' views of themselves.

I totally agree with you, Tinker&Belle. I was so pleased when on one trip I saw a Snow White who was beautifully curvy. (I've read somewhere that due to costuming issues Snowy's are allowed a bit more curves than some of the other princesses). She was radiant and I thought she presented a wonderful body image to young girls.

Besides, I'd happily waste 2 dining credits to see a PLAYBOY Cinderella........I guess I could hope for the breakfast with Cinderella too. LOL.

My brother (not a big Disney fan) asked me if I ever met "Playboy Cinderella". He actually looked through my trip photos to see if I ever saw her. :rotfl:

While passing trough the Cinderellabration crowd, we noticed that Prince Philip looked more like Grandfather Philip. It was just after they announce him and Aurora. It was pretty noticible; we saw it from a distance. Not to be rude, of course, I'm sure he played the part well.

I agree curioser. At the character premiere outlet, we saw that the princess dolls had gone super-skinny. A question, are the characters without masks permitted to speak. I have only heard of Peter Pan doing it.

Last year was the first time we really made an effort to meet the princesses. DD3 was just getting into it. While we saw many different cinderella's and Sleeping beauty's, my DD didnt notice, THANK GOODNESS. When she starts to notice is when i'll have some explaining to do..lol.

Sometimes we as adults see things that are off, and here on the boards we all have a right to express our opinion. While we all age, and put a few pounds on, we arent working for Disney. I think that a certain "look" needs to be maintained for the part, and they need to be re-evaluated often.
I have a pic in my photobucket of mary poppins who really looks "old" from our last trip at CRT. and the Snow White was curvy wich i like better anyways. i'll post the link and you all can look if you want.

I believe all of the 'face' characters, i.e. those without a costume over their head, are permitted to speak. Those characters with a mascot head on, are NOT permitted to speak. It can be amusing trying to carry on a 'conversation' with a mute Chip and Dale when they visit your table at a character meal...

On the original thread topic... I'll just say that I've never been disappointed by any of the Ariels I've seen at WDW. ;)

We had an older Wendy at our CRT breakfast. I didn't know Wendy was a breakfast character? She was very nice. My mom and I had on Tinker Bell shirts so we got a picture with her too.

It's always so interesting to me to see how we worship the youth culture over all else. Whether a character from an animated feature or a live action movie (like Mary Poppins), a great deal of artistic manipulation goes into making a piece of entertainment. If indeed the face characters are wearing regular makeup, then they are not wearing "movie" makeup, and cannot be expected to look like Julie Andrews all day, in Florida heat, as they roam tables interacting with our children.

I think that your "old" Mary Poppins picture looked lovely, and it's a shame that you see her that way. On our best days, we can all take pretty rotten pictures, and I'd like to see anyone on these boards try taking thousands of photos and have them all turn out bright, young, and stunning. Good luck with that.

You're right about the Mary Poppins!

I do think that adults tend to notice these things more than kids do, though.
My DD how is 6 loves Mary Poppins and I showed her the picture without saying anything and she said "UH she's old." So I agree with this one. BTW I think all the characters are great but some don't always fit the part.

Wasn't Mary Poppins supposed to be mature anyway? She was a nanny after all! :confused3
