Hello everyone,

We are a family of four (DS age 5, DD age 7) and are planning our first cruise next May with a 4 day Wonder voyage. Of course, we are all very excited and have been lurking around this board for a few days and have had many questions answered without needing to ask anything YET.

We are leaning toward a Category 6 stateroom midship on deck 6. We would like the verandah with the plexiglass wall rather than an all metal wall to make viewing easier for the kids. I understand the metal walled verandahs are all far aft.

Here is my question. Does Port vs. Starboard side matter much? Does the ship always dock on one side or another? Does it depend on the port? or weather/sea conditions? or random?

Also... Below deck 6 is the oceaner lab/club spaces and farther back the theater. Are these things loud in the deck 6 staterooms? Do you want to avoid being DIRECTLY over them or does it not really matter?

Thanks in advance for answers/advice. I am sure there will be plenty more questions to ask.

:)

I would say yes!!
We were directly over the Disney theater and could hear the words and music to the songs in the room. It wasn't bad due to the hours of the shows and that is was not so load we had to leave due to it.
Also the shopping was under the lab and you could hear the kids very well. BUT the nice thing about the mid ship is the rocking is less. As for one side or the other, it doesn't matter! They dock on both.
One of the old timer cruise member told us that the close to the middle of the boat the better off you are. Less rocking!
I kind of liked the rocking while in bed.It felt like I was being rocked to sleep.

:p

The veranda cabins that have metal instead of plexiglas are all located further aft than the category 7 cabins on the deck plan.

If I had to choose one of the cabins that you're interested in and wanted to avoid any noise, I think I would try to stay midship but would choose a cabin that is more aft of the theatre, like 6616 to 6634 or 6116 to 6134. Or maybe something over the Atrium area would be OK, like near the midship elevator lobby.

But even if you stay midship, the kid's clubs don't go much beyond midnight and the theatre isn't open all night either. It wouldn't be a problem for sleeping, unless you turned in earlier than midnight, or wanted a nap.

I don't recall reading about many people complaining about noise from these areas in the past.

hope that helps

We just returned from the May 26th Western and stayed in a Cat. 6 on deck 6 for the first time. I knew we were toward the aft end of the boat and on the starboard side and was worried about the all metal reg. veranda. But we were so lucky! We stayed in room 6624 on the Magic which has one plexiglass side and one full metal side. We loved having the veranda and it's true what they say, once you get a veranda you'll always want a veranda. We rebooked onboard for the same stateroom next May. We also felt that the starboard side had the best views of the ports on the Western itinerary

We had 6076 last year and have 6078 booked for this year. Mid ship is great and we experienced no noise problems.
