Hi all -
I'm new to the wish board.
I've seen the little logos under different signatures here at the DIS...so I knew the Wish board existed. However, I never visited until today. What a great group of folks you are! I should have known you would be...almost everyone I've come into contact with here has been so courteous and caring.
Here's my story. I'm a 33 year old stay-at-home mom of three (DD10, DS6 and DS3). I've gained weight pretty steadily since I got married almost 12 years ago. I guess some of that is due to the pregnancies - though I did not gain a ton of weight while pregnant (28 pounds, 10 pounds and 8 pounds). I ate what I wanted and didn't worry about it. Obviously, that trend continued for the rest of my life. Right now I weigh exactly what I did when I was 9 mos pregnant with my first child - 232 pounds! (Gosh, it's difficult to write that number, much less see it in print.)
I grew up in a midwest "meat and potatoes", "clean your plate" kind of family. Not the best start! LOL! It seems like I've had a weight problem since puberty. Not terrible as a kid...just on the upper end of what is considered normal. My problems really started in my early 20s when I was finally on my own. I started eating sweets after every meal (always have had a sweet tooth). My body seemed to get hooked and I've been dealing with sugar cravings ever since. I am addicted to sugar and chocolate.
I feel as though I've totally let myself go. It's beginning to affect my health (vericose veins, plantar fascitis...sp?, etc.) I truely feel just "yucky" most of the time. I am ready to be fit and thin again. I want to do this for myself, my husband and my kids.
I lost 12 pounds with WW before I got pregnant with my third child. I like WW - and it worked for me. I just can't seem to stick with it. I'm not a meeting person at all...I drive around enough and trying to fit one more thing in just isn't going to happen. I prefer to do the program on my own...with a little friendly competition. When I was in high school, I did aerobics 5x per week and was in great shape. I know that if I exercise every day and watch what I eat that I can lose weight. DH is in the same boat...so we're motivated to do this together.
I generally don't exercise (but I have a $1500 Bowflex in my basement!! LOL). If a neighbor calls me to go for a walk, I usually go...but I don't have the motivation to go myself. Our local aquatic center now offers water aerobics - which I'm really interested in. The kids start school on Monday, so I'll have time to go without having to get a sitter.
I don't really know what my weigh loss goal should be. I'm thinking 180 pounds. I'm 5 ft 8in and big boned. I know I'm never going to be a string bean.
Right now I wear a size 20. I'd really like to see a size 12 again.
I log onto the Dis almost every day...so I hope to get involved in the challenges, etc. I've only read a few posts. While I have a healthy lunch, I'll read through more of them.
Thanks for reading!

Before joining WISH I didn't exercise and now I try to fit some form of exercise in every day. I don't follow any specific plan, I basically just count calories, and try and make sensible food choices. If you like WW but just can't go to the meetings, I'm sure that there are other WISHers who follow the WW plan without going to the meeting perhaps you could get some advise from one of them.
