A newbie, a nana, two princess, and......the Planner! (Updated 1/4--DTD & head home)

Great update! Did you ever find out what was going on in DTD? That place is always in the news for bomb threats, kidnapping, fights, etc. Must have been real bad if they stopped the buses and boats! :scared1:

interesting about DTD! let us know if you found out what was going on. i'm curious now too!

i can't wait to hear about your dinner at 1900 park fare. we had a blast there!

We never found out for sure what was going on, but from what the captain that took us back to Riverside said, we are pretty sure that it was a bomb threat. We were a bit concerned, and just glad that we weren't there when it happened. We finally made it to Downtown Disney on our departure day, and, of course, by then no one had any idea what had happened :confused3 .

We did have fun at 1900 Park Fare, but it was tampered a bit by the fact that Anna wasn't in the greatest mood. Her Cinderella dress was too itchy, so we put her t-shirt back on underneath it, and she disliked that even more than the itchiness, but she did leave it on.

When we arrived at the Grand Floridian, we were kind of in shock. I have to admit, this was a bit fancier than I had ever imagined. I had always thought that I wanted to stay there, but, after seeing it, I'm not quite sure I'm worthy ;) . We found the restaurant, and then Anna and I ran to the bathroom to get her changed into her Cinderella dress. She decided that it was a little too itchy, so we decided to put her t-shirt back on underneath it. She was a little upset because she didn't like the way it looked, but she decided it was better than being crazy itchy.

We had an early reservation here, I think it was for 4:10. We were the first family in the waiting area, and I was hoping they would choose Anna for the opening ceremony. Unfortunately, they didn't. I was disappointed, but, luckily, since she didn't know about it, she wasn't upset.

We were the second family seated, and we were very close to the buffet and almost directly in front of the door where the characters came out. First, the food........I have to say that none us were very impressed with the food here. I ate mostly chicken and rice and DH ate mostly lo mein noodles. My mom, who is the most adventurous eater of all of us, tried several things, but wasn't really impressed with any of them. However, Addy did like the cheese pizza off the kids buffet. Anna, again, didn't eat much here but did try a few things.

Next come the characters. I have to admit, I thought Prince Charming was a little goofy.......Anna seemed to like him though.

DisneyWorld596.jpg

Next came Cinderella. I thought she was pretty........maybe even prettier than the Cinderella at CRT.
DisneyWorld597.jpg

Now, I have to tell you that Anna was a little worried about meeting the step mother. She was afraid that the stepmother would be really mean, and, considering the reports I've read about how in character they tend to stay here, I was a little worried about that too. Luckily, the stepmother must have sensed her anxiety or something and was a little toned down. She still had the attitude, she just wasn't outwardly mean. She did kind of give Anna a funny look when she hugged her, but, like I said, that was basically Anna's character pose.
DisneyWorld598.jpg

Finally came the stepsisters. They were hilarious and very in character. As the time went on, they even had DH laughing. They were both very excited about having their own autograph page.

Dessert is up next.......I tried not to pay to much attention to the desserts on the buffet because I had previously orderd both the slipper dessert and the miniature castle cake as surprises for Anna and Addy. Addy did have some of the soft serve ice cream........she loves ice cream.

Anna was pretty excited when she saw the slipper dessert, and she basically claimed it for herself. She didn't end up eating too much of it though, so we all got to try it. My mom really enjoyed the filling.
DisneyWorld601.jpg

DH ate most of the castle cake. I had chosen the chocolate one because I knew that was his favorite. I ate some of the cake too, but I found it to be a little dry. It was a lot better with some of the raspberry sauce from the slipper dessert though :thumbsup2 .

When we finished eating, we all headed back to POR. Tonight was DH and I's date night, but we both wanted to change clothes before we went out. We had initially planned on a late supper at California Grill, but we cancelled it a couple of days before because we decided we'd be too full to eat anyway. We ended up just going and spending the evening together at the Magic Kingdom..........but we'll save that for later!

I loved the step sisters and step mother at 1900 Park Fare!!! We ate there last year for the first time and they were a riot! I'm glad none of them scared anna to much. :) The one in the pink sang happy birthday to me very loudy in front of the whole restaurant b/c I didn't stand up when you were suppose to stand if its your birthday and the waitress told her I didn't stand. Haha. Next time I'll just stand. It was very fun though. I can't wait to hear about date night at the magic kingdom! I'm like Addy...I love grilled cheese too! I could eat one everyday haha. Like I've mentioned before i'm a picky eater and not adventurous like you guys too. So I don't think I told you we got a kitten monday. She had been in the other office trailer at work...she was a stray and they took her in and they were trying to find a home for her b/c of the long holiday weekend. So we decided to take her in. We named her perla after one of cinderella's mice b/c cinderella is my favorite! She is a calico...so cute! Litter trainned and everything and travels very well. She made it 9 hours in the car last night without acting up to bad. Also no potty issues either. She stayed in the laundry room at matts parents house while we were home. She didn't care about it at all. I thought she'd cry b/c she couldn't have free rein, but she was happy as a clam. I can't wait to hear about magic kingdom!!! :thumbsup2

Glad to see that you made it home safely.........I missed hearing from you. How was your Thanksgiving?

Do you have a picture of your new kitty? I love cats, but DH is allergic. He says that someday, when we move out of town, then I can have cats. I think that I'll be able to convince him someday though :) . What a cute name too!

When are you guys going to Disney in January?

Thanksgiving was good and visiting home was awesome! I love my family and I miss them already. It was good we got to go though. My mom called me today and told me my dad got demoted at work today. :( Poor dad. They haven't been selling any cars at his dealership(he was the sales manager) or the dealership next door thats owned by the same person. So now he is just making min. wage. They said they'd bump him back up to sales manager when they start having sales again, but they have been cutting people or demoting people left and right. I am so sad b/c it seems like everything was starting to run smoothly again. (he had cancer about three yrs ago and had a heck of a time getting a job after that) so this is such a bummer. He is going to put his resume out there so thats good. My sister text me and was like well there goes my wedding...which seemed selfish to me since its still a ways out. I mean I understand her concern, but that wouldn't be the first thought in my head. I'd first be worried about our dad like I am and also their fiances since she lives at home that effects her too.

How was your thanksgiving? Good I Hope! I do have a picture of perla maybe I'll post it if you don't mind. Hehe. Still waiting for that magic kingdom date night update:thumbsup2

Our Thanksgiving was good........my cousin was home with her 3 month old, which made me want another baby even more because it makes Ady seem so big already. It does seem that your sister was kind of looking at things from the wrong angle......I hope things get better for your dad. The economy is definitely affecting everyone.

I would love to see a picture of Perla.........post away:thumbsup2 .

Ok, Ok............update coming up. This maybe the last one for a couple of days because I found out today that Anna is going to have to have surgery on Friday. It's just to put tubes in her ears to get rid of the ear infection that started right before we left for Disney and still hasn't gotten any better, but it's still scary for me because they have to put her under. It's one of those mommy things that will probably bother me much more than it bothers her.

Ok everyone, before I even get started here, I'm going to warn you that there's only 2 pictures. They are photopass pictures because I didn't even take my camera along with us. It's a Digital SLR, so it's kind of big, and I just wanted to be able to enjoy the evening with DH.

We rode back to the hotel with my mom and the girls after dinner and changed clothes. We knew the Magic Kingdom was open late that night and were showing Spectromagic and Wishes, so we headed back that way.

As soon as we got to the Magic Kingdom, I told DH that we HAD to ride the Haunted Mansion. We knew Anna wouldn't go anywhere near it, so we had to go during the only time we'd have without her. The line looked pretty long, but the posted time was only 20 minutes, and it didn't really even seem like it took that long. The Mansion looked really spooky in the dark too......I'd never seen it that way.

Now, I admit, I'm not a crazy follower of this ride like some people are, but I do enjoy it, and, to me, it really showcases the Disney magic. DH though the effects were really cool, and he loved the part at the end with the hitch hiking ghosts.

When we got off, we decided to head to the one other headliner ride that we hadn't been on yet...........Space Mountain. The ride showed a 60 minute wait, but we ended up waiting closer to 90. It seemed MUCH longer than that because we had these two teenage girls in front of us who were incredibly annoying. I had to stop DH from saying rude things too many times to count. Then, after like 45 minutes of waiting in line, one of the girl's mothers came and butted right on in line with them! You might think that having a mother there would improve their behavior........not at all the case. All it did was explain their behavior :(.

Finally, we made it up to the front. The ride seemed awful short to me, and DH wasn't very impressed. However, to me, this is another one of those rides that you have to ride at Disney........next time we'll just be sure that we make it there BEFORE they run out of fast passes!

When we got off, we were able to ride Buzz Lightyear and Stitch's Escape without any wait. I can't say that I enjoyed the Stitch ride, but I'd never ridden it before, so at least now I can say that I did. The burp smell was HORRIBLE!!!!

When we got off, we grabbed some popcorn and took a quick ride on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. It was a nice way to sit back, enjoy the ride, and just talk with each other for a little while.

It was almost time for Wishes to start when we got off, so we headed back toward the castle. That's when these pictures were taken :) . I knew we needed a picture in front of the castle, and it turned out really well.

We got to the front of the castle hub just in time for the fireworks. They were beautiful, and I loved the music. DH enjoyed the fireworks, but he definitely did not enjoy the crowds afterwards. He is not a big fan of large amounts of people, and he really hates being crowded in tight spaces. We managed to get pushed/escape into Casey's because DH decided he was hungry, and we figured that might be a good way to let some of the people pass.

DH got a hot dog combo meal, and I introduced him to the wonderful thing that is Disney cheese. He hadn't known it was there, but he was very happy that I pointed it out to him.........it made the fries so much better. I mostly kept him company and ate his Cracker Jack.

We talked about staying to see Spectro, but DH wasn't in the mood for even more crowds and then having to push through the crowds to get on a bus. So, after his snack, we headed out. I have forced him to agree to seeing Spectro with me in January though because I really want to see it. However, I was pretty tired too, so I didn't protest too hard, and we grabbed a bus and headed back for the hotel.

Up next, our last full day at Disney..........DHS.

I thought I left a message about 1900??? Anyway, LOVE the castle cake! So pretty. That's the same Prince Charming we had too. I agree...something was a little off about him but he was very nice.

Wow. That's a long wait for SM! It's not worth that much time to me either. I've never used a FP...what's the deal w/ those? They only have so many in a day then they're gone? That's not good. We HATE HATE HATE the Stitch ride! What a waste of space. I didn't like it much as the Alien either but it was better than it is now. That is a great pic of you and your man in front of the castle!

Just think..in a few weeks you will have the place all to yourselves!!! What will you do? I'd book the deluxe dining if it were my second honeymoon...you two could have fun with that. Three nice sit down meals each day with apps and everything plus free cups and two snacks per person!

Yep, they only have so many fastpasses, and when they're gone, they're gone. We didn't use too many this time around, but it was nice to just walk up to the ride when we did use them. Mostly we used them if we wanted to ride a ride a second time. I never rode Alien, but I definitely did not enjoy Stitch.

I really think the picture in front of the castle turned out very well :) .

We actually are doing deluxe dining in January. Unfortunately, a couple of the restaurants we really want to go to haven't signed on to the dining plan yet :scared1: (Yak & Yeti and the Japanese restaurant in Epcot). I'm hoping that they just haven't finalized their contracts yet but still will. I just can't wait! It's going to be so nice to just have all of that time with DH to myself.

Say what!? They better renew. Yak n Yeti and both Japanese places are on the DDP as of right now. Where all do you guys plan to eat? Are you going to continue this into your PTR when you finish the last day? You should. I guess when I get back home I'll be doing both at one time. Ya know...with the Deluxe in August we are doing some meals like this...early lunch 11-12 at say Coral Reef....then about 4 or 5 we'll eat at say Le Cellier....then late that night at @ 9 we'll eat at Chefs De France. We will do this on our Epcot days so we can fit in a bunch of new places. I really wanted to eat in Mexico but the menu is so not what I eat. Ick.

That's pretty much what we're thinking. DH LOVED Yak & Yeti, and he says that we have to go there no matter what, even if we have to pay out of pocket. I was really excited about the Japanese place because that would be someplace really different for us.

In January, we are eating at:
Dinner at Ohana
Breakfast at Tusker House
Dinner at Teppan Edo (I doubt that we'll do this if it's not on the dining plan)
Lunch at Le Cellier
Lunch at Sci Fi
Dinner at Brown Derby
Breakfast at Chef Mickey's
Supper at California Grill
Breakfast at Ohana
Lunch at Yak & Yeti
Breakfast at Crystal Palace
Dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table
Breakfast at Askershus

The other meals, we'll probably do counter service or possible try for some walk ups depending on how hungry we are. DH didn't want more than two meals a day scheduled, and we don't mind eating some counter service. We mostly did the dining plan just because we want to not have to think about it when we're eating.

I'm subscribed to a thread on the dining plan board that shows which restaurants have not signed on yet, and there are actually quite a few, mostly in Epcot and Downtown Disney. Others have said that the Epcot restaurants are usually the last to sign on, so that's what I'm keeping my fingers crossed for.

I didn't know if I could start my pre-trip report here or if I had to start a new thread on the PTR board......I was planning on doing a pre-trip once I finished this report.

First of all....I LOVE the pictures of you two in front of the castle. So adorable! I love haunted mansion and what cracks me up is that when I was little I remember going on it and crying into my moms shoulder half the time. Lol. Seriously....what the heck was I scared of? Its an AMAZING ride...not the ride part so much, but more the set up and ghosts and stuff, which makes the ride. :thumbsup2 I don't do coasters so I've never done space mountain and we went on stich the first year we went, but we don't bother wasting our time now because neither of us really care for it. Did you do the carousel of progress? Seriously, I know its cheesy, but I totally love it! I'm so sorry to hear anna has to get tubes in her ears, but the good news is my sister had them put in when she was probably about the same age and she was perfectly fine so you have nothing to worry about! :) Although I know you will still worry b/c your a mommy and thats what mommies do. :) Pearla is having surgery this week too so she can't have kittens. I hated doing it to my dog b/c it makes me sad that she would never get to experience being a mommy but there are so many unwanted animals out there. Not to mention our wiener dog was the runt and she said it'd be hard on her to have babies so that kind of helped a little. Here is a pic of our little monster perla.

That was on the way back to Va after thanksgiving. She traveled very well. As far as us going to disney in January...we are thinking towards the end...nothing is for sure yet...they are running this test at work right now and our time off is going to be depending on this test so we have some dates held right now...I'm going to have to ask dh what they are, but we can move them if need be. I'll let you know. I hope the surgery goes well. Check back in even if you don't update. :goodvibes

Kona has a wonderful Breakfast menu too! It's a good place to go to on your way into the MK. It's fast and GOOD!

The other meals, we'll probably do counter service or possible try for some walk ups depending on how hungry we are. DH didn't want more than two meals a day scheduled, and we don't mind eating some counter service. We mostly did the dining plan just because we want to not have to think about it when we're eating. If I were you I'd go ahead and make the ADR's. If you decide not to use them cancel later. Better safe then sorry. Think about how slammed those counter services are! You could sit down and have a nice meal for the same wait pretty much. At TS you're guranteed a seat....at CS sometimes you have to stand and wait. This I am not looking forward to. Ya know the Plaza inside the MK is a GREAT place to have a light meal....sandwich, salad, side of fruit. I was surprised at how yummy it was.

I'm subscribed to a thread on the dining plan board that shows which restaurants have not signed on yet, and there are actually quite a few, mostly in Epcot and Downtown Disney. Yeah...you could do an all new ZPTR and then add your TR to it when ya get home.

I got to thinking about it and decided that you were right about the ADRs. I went ahead and made one for the Plaza on our arrival day and also one at Liberty Tree Tavern on a Magic Kingdom day. I don't want to stand around waiting at the counter service places......not because the food is bad, just because I don't want to have to deal with those lines and crazy people after tables. I talked to DH, and we agreed that it will be nice to have them, especially the arrival day one, and if we don't want to use them we'll just cancel them. Thanks for putting those extra thoughts in my head :thumbsup2 . We're two adults on the Deluxe Dining plan........we might as well take advantage of it.

What a cute little kitty!!!! I miss having cats.......in fact, oddly enough, I had a dream about the cat I had all through high school the other night. He used to do this thing where he rubbed his head against your cheek, and you could just tell that he loved you. Plus, if you talked to him he'd meow back at you like you were having an actual conversation.

Definitely let me know when you find out what your travel dates in January will be :) .

Tomorrow we're leaving right after Anna gets out of school because her surgery is in another town about an hour and a half from here. The surgery is going to be at 7:00 Friday morning, so hopefully we'll be home early Friday afternoon, and I'll update so that you all know everything went ok.

Just wanted to let those of you that have been following us know, Anna did very well with the surgery. Hopefully now we can just get past this whole ear infection thing! Although she had a bit of a rough time coming out of anesthesia, she took a nap on the way home, and that seemed to get her pretty much back to normal.

They gave her some medicine to "relax her" before they gave her the actual anesthesia, and they warned us that it would make her either tired or goofy. She chose goofy........it was hilarious. She kept trying to get out of the bed to chase after her daddy, but every time she tried to stand up, she'd fall over :rotfl2: . I think it really relaxed us as much as it relaxed her because we were getting pretty nervous, but she made us laugh, and that made us feel better.

The entire surgery itself probably took only about 10 minutes, and we were probably separated from her for a grand total of 15 or 20 minutes. We had to wait until she woke up in the recovery room before we could be with her again. I think she was mostly upset that she couldn't remember that time period.

i'm assuming anna had her tonsils taken out or tubes put in her ears? either way, glad to hear it went well! my dad had open heart surgery back in 2006 and i was SO nervous, but his goofiness once they gave him the "happy pills" really helped out with the anxiety for him AND for me and my brother and sister. he was singing guns and roses on the way to the operating room ("sweet child of mine" is one fo his favorite songs ever!) and talking in broken spanish to the nurse! none of us were even aware that he knew any spanish other than "hola" and "taco"! :lmao:

She had tubes put in her ears for the ear infection that we've been battling since before our trip. It's hard to be the mommy because she was upset already, so I was trying to be strong for her...........her goofiness helped with that. She didn't do any singing, but it sure was some comic relief :rotfl: . Unfortunately, she wasn't anywhere near as happy after the procedure. She just kept crying and crying. The nurse said that anesthesia does that sometimes, but it's hard to see her like that.
