A new "low" at our school

I've seen Senior Pranks (super-glue-ing locks, filling sand into an outdoor ampitheater, TP-ing the school), but this doesn't even fall into the same category as a prank. Saturday night, someone - probably several people, cut down over a dozen trees on our HS campus. These trees were each at least 10-12 feet tall. It just makes me sick. We have survellance cameras, but haven't heard if there was anything usable.

Just wanted to moan about it. I'm glad there are only 4 more days 'til school's out.

Ha HA isn't this fun...not! Hope they find them and make them pay plus do some kind of community service....maybe they could come work in my yard, that would be punishment!

What a sbame. :sad2: I hope they catch the culprits, and give them a punishment that fits the seriousness of the crime.

Some seniors in a town close to us wrote on the side of the highschool with sidewalk chalk last week (it came off with water/rain). The cameras caught them, and the kids weren't allowed to attend their high school graduation. :confused3 In that case, I think the administrators overreacted.

Some seniors in our district went to the bus yard overnight and let the air out of the tires on ALL the school buses. The buses ended up being 1-2 hours late making the kids late. Some parents were late to work because they had to take their kids to school- they couldn't wait with the young all morning wondering when the bus was going to come. Pranks aren't funny when they effect people's pocketbook.

A few years ago, some pranksters sealed all the doors and windows shut at a local high school with liquid nails.

Just last week, some kids pulled a sailboat to a rival school, blocked the doors, weighed down the boat with concrete (I think) and then they hopped in the back of a pick up. The driver had been drinking and did a J turn and a kid flew out and hit his head. :sad2:

The sidewalk chalk seems a bit much, but then we don't know what was written...

So far this year, our school has had 3 pranks.

TPing the trees/spreading trash & bird seed around the halls.

Locking the back gate out of the school - which is the way about 90% of the traffic leaves in the afternoon. Took me about 20 minutes to get off campus instead of 2, cuz we all had to turn around and then wait for the inbound lanes to clear.

Spreading horse manure around the school - on walls, in lockers, on door handles. Disgusting.

Thankfully there haven't been any more since that happened (and the principal threatened to take away prom/grad night/etc).

We have 4 days left, including today...hopefully there won't be any more pranks!

Gosh, that's a lot of work. One would have thought that the neighbors would have called the police when the chainsaws started running after dark! (I mean, I'm assuming they used chainsaws, but maybe they just like to work REALLY hard & used hand-saws of some type?!?)

That's awful minnie...kind of have to wonder if it was a rival high school or something...I kind of doubt it though. All those trees total will cost a fortune to replace and if this willful destruction of public property is a felony because of the replacement costs.

If I were an administrator I'm afraid I'd go old-school and cancel graduation.

agnes!
PS - Something this huge and seemingly well-planned? I bet the perpetrators have talked/boasted about it.

Here's this year's high-tech senior prank from our local high school. No trees were injured in the making of this prank. That's just too sad. :(

wow - that's very inventive. Almost want to give kudo's to the kids who worked it out!

These trees were cut down with hand saws, not chain-saws. And there had to be several involved. Hopefully, someone will talk.

Why assume it was a prank. It doesn't sound like anything a senior would do, IMO. I could be wrong, but it just doesn't sound like a prank.

Totally unfair to punish all the innocent people, which is probably 95% of the school. I would have a BIG problem with that. Totally inappropriate. Just find and punish the one's who did it. People talk, and it won't be long before they are caught.

What a shame to take down some perfectly good tree's. Kids just have no clue. Some things are really not 'funny'.

Even if they catch the kids, there probably won't be any consequences since they are "good kids" (yeah right) and no one wants to blemish their records since they are all "heading to one of the very best colleges". And mommy and daddy will find a way to get them off anyways. And the kids would laugh about how they got away with it.

That's how it works here.

here in San Diego, a honor student planned a prank where they got a key to the school, broke in at night, and were moving all the chairs onto the football field to spell out "class of 09"

They got caught, were made to put all the chairs back and the parents had to pay for a complete lock and key change at the school. (probably a bit pricy!)

fast forward to last week. Same kid (Honor student) puts chemical bombs into trash cans all around campus, several explode, school closes, Bomb squad, ATF and police called, search and find more. catch kid with several in his backpack.

net result. He is in jail facing felony bombing charges, etc., his FULL schlorship to a college, and his acceptance to the Air Force Academy probably not going to happen. (he is 18, so charged as adult)

Why can't these "Honor" students and "smart" kids figure out a harmless thing to do that dosn't involve destruction of property or create a mess?

Hope he is an "honor" inmate.

Cutting down certain types of trees is ILLEGAL where I come from- I'm assuming that way all across America. I don't care if these kids were 5 seconds away from graduation, when they are caught, they need to be expelled. You are about to be treated as an adult & turned loose into the world & you cut down a buncha trees across campus?! You have no idea where they could have fallen- this is serious. Senior pranks, I never ever "understood." When my husband & I were seniors (together- same school) other kids poured tacks into the senior parking lot. WHAT THE HECK?! Fortunately, we didn't park there, but it seems like the dumbest idea EVER. Also, why waste ypur time? I never understood the motivation. Kids can be idiots.

The sidewalk chalk seems a bit much, but then we don't know what was written...

THey wrote "class of 2009" in chalk on the brick walls of the school. Came off with water and they were told it is vandalism and could not walk across for graduation. I think that is WAY too strict.

another area school several students built a swing set on the roof of the school. They were allowed to walk across, but the valedictorian who was involved in the prank could not give his speech.

Interesting how 2 area schools handled it so differently.

I just saw on the news this morning, the same "chalk" incident happened somewhere in WI, "Jackson County", I never knew WI had a Jackson County. Anyway, about 9 kids were not allowed to walk or participate in graduation ceremonies. They were all yelling and protesting outside how unfair it was, and then a mom was interviewed and said, "these kids earned the right to graduate."

The principal said, the earned their diploma's, but they lost their right to the graduation ceremony.

A couple of years ago, kids cut evergreen trees down in Campbellsport WI. I think one was even the class President. 4 kids got caught, because others talked. He wrote an apology letter, etc, to papers, and they still wouldn't let him take part in the graduation ceremonies. He replaced the trees, he cut down, and the said part was, other graduation classes donated the trees a few years earlier.

I don't know what kids are thinking, but I feel, they want to leave a legacy or something. They really are not thinking, even though they have been told numerous times throughout the year, to not do student pranks.

I know some pranks are harmless, such as a group of students parked in the "workers" parking stalls on their last day. Got there really early and went to breakfast, then came to school. Other's do harmful things. But a prank is a prank, and administration (in our town) punishes everything the same.

So in Northern Minnesota, an Icon of the up north philosophy of living was chopped down by vandals. We have a cabin in two harbors and have listened to all kinds of theories about who did it. There is a strong possibility this is a 'Senior Prank" either the Seniors of Two Harbors...or Of Duluth East(There's actualy reports that there were students posting their accomplishment on youtube, but they took everything down once the level of anger was realized)

It's really a sad commentary IMO.
