Well, I'm diving into the deep end and hoping someone out there will throw me a life jacket. It all started with just one pin. I should have known better... it started with one Beanie Baby too.... BUT THIS WILL BE DIFFERENT. I vow not to collect pins for value (BB mistake), and too collect only for pleasure. :bounce:

I still would like to know more about what I am doing though.... I was lucky enough to meet two wonderful people in line at TDS (tennisnut & Epcot Lover) who gave me insight into this board and other pin sites. Is there hope for me? Will someone mentor me? I'm feeling overwelmed and naive. Pin educate me.

Well first let me welcome you to the DIS. We will do our best to help you understand your pin addiction :)

First it's like this, you get a pin and its cool, your happy.

Then you trade your pin with a cast member for an even cooler pin, and your happier.:)

Then you show off your pins to another pin collect who says nice pins, and your pumped up.:D

Then they show you their collection on pins going back to 1971, and of course every pin is nicer than yours, and your bummed.:(

Then you vow revenge, and you go to Ebay and buy every LE you see… as your pins start to arrive you get happy again, and go in for the kill at the next meet. You are happy and pumped.:smooth:

Then while waiting for your first trader to arrive, an older trader trades you a bunch of your pins for even more rare and exotic pins. You're on top of the world ma.:D

Then the regulars arrive and inform you that the pins you just got are last years flex pins, and you can get them at the character warehouse for 99 cents each. (You just met your first shark) Your crushed destroyed and so depressed you just want to give the darn things away.

You go home and get the credit card bill for all the pins you bought on ebay and just traded for nothing. Your doomed life is gloom and despair.

Then a little girl comes up and wants to trade a rack pin for something that cost you a small fortune on ebay, your so bummed you do it, she get so exited she gives you a hug and kiss on the cheek, the parent say thank you, and you just made her day. (You see the sharks have taken all the good pins off the lanyards, and replaced them with those yuck pins you just traded for) You feel good inside.:)

The people you were trying to out pin, turn out to be really cool people and help you get better pins. Your pumped happy and loved.:p

Then the shark that took you for your pins is trading with a Spanish tourist, and you stand over their shoulder acting as interpreter all the time saying the Spanish word for shark. You get revenge and you happy forever. :D

Bottom line is we are all a bunch of kooks, but when we get together we have fun, and a friendlier bunch of kooks you'll never find.

This is the neatest hobby to get into, you get to talk to cast members, when not so long ago it was forbidden for cast members to speak unless it was to give directions.

And if you meet a person with a lanyard on you know you have a friendly hello waiting for you.

So welcome aboard, and happy pin trading Shortcreek. :D :D

Yippee!

Saturday mornings have been lots of fun. Look Amy......another member of our Kentucky flock.

I will be glad to answer some of your questions. I am not the best trader in the world but love to meet new people. You have probably figured that out since you have been in line with me :D

I am sure the DIS board members can help you too.

I have met some wonderful people on this board.

Look everybody.....another Kentuckian!!!!

Welcome to the boards. Everyone here is really friendly and will help you out any time.

And, as far as Raul's post, there is always somebody with more pins and nicer pins. Learn to be content with what you have. I am out pinned here in Syracuse. I know that in WDW, the cute little kids are going to have better pins than me. LOL

Welcome to the world of yet another obsession...er...collection. You've already figured out the most important part of pintrading/collecting...collect what you like! :jester: Have fun!

to the world of the pinsane.....

Hey you can become an online onofficial member of the small fish traders club, that is until you move your collection up to the veteran status....

I love being a small fish!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome... and the tips. Raul scenario was exactly what was playing through my head when I started thinking seriously about pin trading.... I think I'll stay a small fish for a while.... maybe the sharks won't want me because I'm so tiny.

Susan, I'll bring all my pins Saturday and you and Amy (if she gets out of bed) can give me some pointers while we wait in line.

I know what you mean shortcreek. I'm addicted too. Last week my house caught on fire. First, I saved my pin bag and then I went back into my house to save my family. The good news is none of my pins were damaged....Thank God. You can always replace a house, but you can never replace limited edition pins. Right?
