So I know at one time on this forumn there was a link talking about the new Disney Musical On the Record, but nobody had seen the show yet only had heard things about it. Well untill now. I was it on March 1, 2005 in Lansing Michigan and let me tell you what.....it was an excellent show. I can not even begin to explain how amazing this show was. Most of us remember when we fell in love with Disney and for those of you that may have forgot this show will remind you all about it.

The show is made up of 64 songs from the most popular Disney movies, TV shows, park attractions and broadway show from the year 1920 to the present day. The whole thing takes place on a "sound stage" where 4 people come to record music. The entire cast is only 8 people not including the best band performances I have ever seen. The songs blend from one to the other with out skipping a beat. The show is 2.5 hours long but it feels like nothing. I surprized my soon to be wife for her birthday with the show and she cried with excitment. It brings memories form all of the Disney movies you have seen and it makes you want to sing, but you know that you can not.

I suggest when this CD comes out on March 15, 2005 that everyone goes out to get it. This is a must have show to see and a must have CD to have in your collection.

Thanks for the info! Do you know how long it will be in Lansing?

I am curious though to know why it would open in Lansing ? No offense, but Lansing isn't exactly the media/entertainment capital of the US.

It's playing here in Charlotte April 12-17. I didn't buy tickets for it because I hadn't heard anything about it.
I may have to go back to the site and see what seats are available...

I did not open in Lansing, but it is one of the first 5 stops or so. It will be in Lansing until the 6th of March at the Wharton Center. ::MickeyMo

I still can't figure out WHY no west coast shows

Thanks for the review! We just purchased tickets for the Charlotte show. I figured this would be a really good show, as Disney shows always are, but it is nice to see a review from a true fan. Looking forward to the CD and the show!

It opened at the Cleveland Playhouse in November - I saw it then and am waiting to receive the cd soon...

I went to the show and did not get the CD there, I got it at Best Buy for half the price. It is great!

HI - I'm new here!

I saw this as part of the Indianapolis broadway season - the music was very good - the singing was a little above average BUT (like my 13 yr old daughter said) why did they give the singers names? They hardly interacted w/each other and NEVER spoke to each other. There seemed to be some kind of attempt at a plot but it use was unclear exactly what that was.

I've been on 2 Disney cruises and have been to Disney world 14 times - I would rate this show average at best. Several dozen people left at intermission and I know of at least 6 or 8 who asked for their money back.

BTW - I loved the Incredibles!!

I would have to disagree with dhdwnezi.
The charactors had names because in all shows you have to know what person you are playing. There are not leading roles with the names "Man 1" or "woman 2". That is the reason that the people had names.

As far as the plot of the show...did you watch the show? the entire thing had a love story that tied into a recording of a record. Hence the name "On the Record" The show went really fast for me, and for the sold out show that I saw, there wasn't anyone that I could tell that left the show.

Most good musicals tell a story through mucis and not words, that is probally the reason that they did not interact with one another.

Sorry that you did not like it, I having been in many Musicals and Plays in my lifetime really enjoyed it.

My wife and I saw the show in Philadelphia and it was great. We saw it in January and we loved it. The plot was a little loose but the music was great. We saved the playbill so when we see the girl that played Kristen (Ashley Brown) again we will make sure we see what she is in, her voice was great.

We had friends who saw it and rated it as "average". They couldn't keep from comparing the singing to the "original" songs and in most cases, it wasn't up to those standards. They summed it up by saying this would have been a great show on a cruise ship--. They did say the performers were "talented in their own way"--?

But have been in several dozen plays - helped start a theater group in my hometown of Westfield, IN that is still going on after more than 25 years.

And my 13 year old daugther had a small part in the movie ' River Rats' - I believe she had 6 or 7 lines - she also has appeared locally in several things in small roles - for example at IRT last Christmas. And she has made a few commericals as well.

If it matters Forrest Tucker was my moms cousin - I only remember him as a big guy who used to come to our family reunions - he must have come to 6 or 8 that I remember.

But to get back to the subject - yes I realize what the plot was but wondered WHY they felt it was needed. It seemed to be a afterthought to me adding very little to what they were trying to do.

IN short great music - above average singing - little plot that just got in the way.

In my opinion (if anyone cares) they either should have beefed up the plot or dropped it entirely.

It just distracted from the music - at least it did to me.

I saw this show in Boston and loved it! I bought the soundtrack at the theatre and didn't even mind that I probably paid twice what I would have paid at Borders. I agree the plot was thin, but the music was designed to be the star of the show - even so, I got a little teary-eyed at the "happily ever after" ending. I found it to be very well performed, the cast really gave it their all (and I fell in love at least a couple of times!).

Whenever you have a complitation like this, it's easy to quibble about what songs were included and which ones weren't, but I just sit back and enjoy the show.

:)

I saw the show today and loved it. The performers were all excellent. I like Disney music in general so I have no problem with it being out of context from what people are used to from the movies. I have many different cd's of Disney music ranging from classical, easy listening and pop versions and now this show is just the showtunes version.

::MickeyMo I saw "On the Record" in Philadelphia in January and ordered the CD. Just received it about 2 weeks ago. I loved the show and the music. But then again, I love everything Disney
