A Mission Space review from someone who can't ride the tea cups!

We just returned from WDW Monday and went to the AP preview of Mission Space. I sent DH with DD first so he could test ride it for me, they loved it and DH said I would be fine.

So I figured what the heck, I'll try it. I usually only feel sick on things that go in tight circles, I don't ride the tea cups and on Dumbo I have to constantly look away from the ride and focus on something farther out in order not to feel ill.

DD went with me and we went right on the ride. I don't want to give away any spoilers but I was fine up untill the end of the ride. They tell you to keep your head straight forward to help avoid motion sickness and that's what I did. Towards the end of the ride I started to cold sweat-lol. But this was JUST before the ride the ended. After we got off the ride I felt a little funky for around 20 minutes and then I was fine! I'm very glad that I gave it a shot because it was a really fun ride.

Through out the rest of our vacation DD and DH went on MS a few more times but once was enough for me and I stayed with DS(2) while they rode.

I'll probably go on MS once per trip but it's not something I'll ever go on over and over.

Hope this helped!

Thanks for sharing! I have never gotten motion sick, I'm just scared of coasters and drops, but I have an 8-day supply of Bonine for me and hubby (he gets queasy on simulators), because I do not want to miss Mission Space.

I sent my husband and kids on the ride and the kids absolutely loved it. I was waiting for them when they got off the ride and my husband sat next to me and i felt him and he was ice cold. I was unable to get him to say anything for about an hour. At lunch(2 hours later) he finally opened up about that ride. He will never do that again. He was the pilot and was looking for the abort button. He thought crashing the spaceship would be better than continuing the trip to Mars. By lunch the entire family was laughing hysterically over his inability to pilot a spaceship. He did put his head down. Big mistake. Hypersleep, he wanted death. It had to be better. My husband will not even watch us do teacups, he gets sick watching them spin. He should know me better, if I do not go on a ride, then he better ask more questions before he goes on.....Oh well it was an experience he will never forget.;)

Kkozma-You had me laughing out loud on your DH's experience. Thanks for the chuckle!

I have to agree-did it, done it, won't do it again!

Just keep your head back and don't wander your eyes and you should be fine!

I will be trying these wrist bands that someone gave me. They used them for morning sickness while pregnant and they helped. I cant take any of the motion sickness pills---makes me too sleepy.

I was wondering about Mission Space since I can't do the tea cups either. Even Space Mountain made me a little queasy when I did it twice in a row.

I'm going to try at least once though.

Thanks.

I'm a whimpy rider as well.......what is it about MS that makes you ill? Is it a simulartor type ride? Or is it spinny like the teacups?
I wanted to try MS for our upcoming trip, but now not so sure.
Thanks!

Would love to try MS myself..can do roller coasters, but cannot do any simulated rides or teacups...

so for all those who have tried it, would you recommend do if a person can not handle the simulated rides.

thanks!

We also rode it this past week and our family of 4 had varying experiences. I had the worst reaction (I also was on antibiotics for a sinus infection).....about 1/2 minute into the ride I was dizzy, cold and clammy and ready for the ride to end. The nauseated feeling lasted a couple of hours. I'm not sure if it was due to the sinus infection or not. I can usually do the tea cups with minimal to no dizzyness involved. My husband was a little queasy when he got off, but it only lasted about 15 min. My DS(12) and DD(7) thought it was neat! At least I can say that I tried it, but I think that also once is enough for me. Also, after the ride there is a great computer game that you play in a group. After the ride I wasn't feel good enough to do it so we left.........however, we did go back the next day and went through the back way (the gift shop) to enter the game room to play. It's a fun game....try not to miss it!

We went on MS a few weeks ago and my DW, who cannot handle Body Wars or Star Tours and won't even think about the Teacups, did just fine. She loved it and felt no ill effects. However, I didn't do so well. It took me 2-3 hours to start feeling normal again. Still love the ride and am going tomorrow to ride it again. What can I say, I'm a glutton for punishment, and I think the ride is worth the misery.

Spoiler down below-

If you don't want to know don't look down!

Last warning....lol

Ok, one last warning, seriously. lol

It is a simulator ride that mimics a blast off into space. You travel to the Mars and then land. In order for you to feel the G-forces they spin you REALLY fast. It really does feel like you're blasting into space, I was fine until we started to land on Mars and then all I was thinking was, please don't make us fly back-lol.

Gee, I'm glad I passed on this ride a week ago. Sounds like too much preparation and too much recovery time.

Bring back Horizons! :D

I went to Mission Space last Saturday. My feeling after this is MS is a "must see" because all the technology and amazing efects they put in that ride. For me... a must see only once.

We were lucky enough to ride it last month. DH can not ride the Tea Cups or anything else that spins and he did not have a problem with Mission Space. He followed the instructions that they gave before entering the ride and was fine. DD and myself were fine with the ride. We did see people who were literally green when they got off the ride and I actually saw one person have to have a wheel chair after riding it. I had a bigger problem with the Primevil Whirl at Animal Kingdom.

We rode MS August 3. DH and I both get sick from Star Tours and Body Wars. Tea Cups is a definite "no-no". After reading about the ride system on these boards I decided we should try Bonine for the first time in our lives. Neither of us got sick and we loved it. I do know that if we hadn't taken Bonine we would have been sick.

ok, is it more like the tea cups (small area going around in circles) or is it more like Dumbo? I'm going in Dec. and I want to be prepared! Also, can anyone tell me how to add the dates of my previous visits to Disney? Thanks!

I'm still debating whether to try it or not. I just read the 3-part article and the description made me queasy!

First off, welcome to the DIS, MDT!!!! Nice to see you here.

As for the trips, I assume you mean in your signature area. Just go to the top area of any page, and click on the 'Use CP' icon. When there, click on the 'Edit Profile' icon. And, when there, scroll down a bit to the signature area and add what you want there. If you want to add some clipart also, stop down to the Tech Board (on main board menu) and see some of the threads there for setting that up. Good luck, send me a PM if you get stuck. Again, welcome.
