A minor disappointment

My family is scheduled for a NYE trip down to HHI. Since we were booked for five days, from Sun to Thurs, we decided to make the trek down a day early. I was able to get a nice rate at the Hilton resort, which included breakfast. However, after further thought, I called MS this morning and tried to get a cash rate using the DC discount. No dice. No more rooms at that rate (20% off $105 studio). I then decided to call and see if I could get a DVC discounted rate. Same story.

When I discussed it with the CM, who was very nice, she explained that since management was "confident" that the room could be rented out that weekend for the full rate, the DVC rate could not be honored. Although I understand the business reason for this decision, it is still a minor disappointment, especially as this is my home resort.

I think we've seen the last of the 25% member discount. It was a temp perk at best. It might still be available off time but when it is, expect the CRO discount to be as high or hgiher.

IMHO, the cash discount should always be available-DVC members pay a lot of money to Disney and that should be a perk if they need rooms and don't have pts to use or for any other reason.

Just MHO-DVC members are going to spend money at WDW for 40 years almost guaranteed-a 25% discount is not too much to ask for.

If you want to stay somewhere on cash(for whatever reason) and don't get the discount-and the non DVC guy in the room next to you is getting it dirt cheap with a code-wouldn't you feel awkward?

Even if it was ONLY at your home resort, I would like to see it available if there are rooms that haven't been reserved-I know it's available now, I'm just looking at it as if it wasn't going to be around too much longer.

Why would or should they rent the room for a discount if they don't have to. Anyone can use many of the codes or discounts so I'd always look at all the options. Would you pay the member price at 25% discount if you could get the room at 35% discount another way? And if it's a room used for a points trade (DCL, DC, CC) it would be money out of our pocket.

While I've always thought DVC and WDW should give up more discounts and would like to see the 25% discount available, I find it difficult to see how one could expect it.

You're right. I wouldn't want the smaller discount if I could get something better.

I think there should always be some perks in place for members, discounts or whatever because you do "commit" yourself and your money to Disney for a long time-I just think we should always get a little something like a discount-I know they could get full cash price for a room so why give it to me at 25% off if I need to pay cash? Because it will make me happy, I'll tell my friends about DVC, I may buy pts at the resort I pay cash for if I really like it, etc.

Again, just MHO

:D

When was the last time you looked over your member benefits and noticed the discounts you do get? There are 'always some perks in place for members, discounts or whatever because you do "commit"'

I looked at my book just last night and I'm aware of all the discounts-they just seem to be available to Annual Passholders and some of them to Disney Club members as well.

I just happen to favor the 25% discount for members and I hope that it never goes away.

It's just MHO-Just trying to make my DH's hard earned dollars go a little further, that's all

Yes, we would all like that, but unfortunately we are not the ones deciding on what the discounts should be. All of the discounts are right in the offering, it should come as no surprise what the benefits are, and you should not expect that you're going to get something that isn't in the offering statement. It is a real estate transaction and nothing more.

As an analogy, just because you might buy a house located on a golf course, is it a given that you receive a club membership or discounted membership fees?
