Hello. I am new to making a trip report, but really want to do this one as we plan Kaylin's Wish trip to Disney World. She deserves this trip so much, and cant wait to get down to it with the planning to make this the most perfect dream come true for my princess. As of now, we have been informed that her wish trip to Disney has been approved by our local wish grantor. however we are still waiting on all the details to be put into place by the wish fulfillment team.

Our cast includes :
Me - Kirsten, (32) AKA Mom. I am a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. I am a huge Disney fan, and so my children (hopefully) will follow suit. (so far so good). Everything in my house is Disney and would decorate every room disney, but... one day

Dad - Matt (34) Is an automotive Technician. Is also a Disney fan, but I think alot of it has rubbed off from me. lol. He is a wonderful father & husband.

Kaylin - (3) and the star of the show. One week exactly from Kaylin's third birthday we took her to a well Dr checkup. He felt a lump in her lower right abdomen and questioned that she was having regular bowel movements, which she was. He decided to send her for an xray which we took her to immediately that evening. By 9am the following morning the dr's office called to tell us she needed an ultrasound and possibly a CT scan asap and had us scheduled for 230pm that afternoon. After the u/s the nurse got a dr who explained that we needed to wait in the waiting room for a call from our attending pediatrician. At that point he told me it was best we just come to his office. So we left the hospital and headed toward the peds office, our minds racing knowing that what was going on could not be good at all because no one would give us answers at all.. nothing, just vague 'put off' answers. After getting to his office, the nurses greeted us with solemn faces and put us immediately in a room. After a brief minute the Dr was in and told us we would be going to a different hospital then the one we were at because he felt that Kaylin could be treated best locally there rather then running to a hospital about an hour or so from our home which is what would of hapopend had we stayed where we were. We were admitted into the pediatric unit immediately. From there Kaylin had a CT scan, and not until 130 in the morning did someone finally reveal what was happening. She had a tumor about the size of a small grapefruit engulfing her right kidney which was cancerous and known as a Wilms tumor. By 8 am that morning (Friday) an oncologist and surgeon had been in to speak with us. We were told she would need to undergo surgery right away and scheduled it for the next morning at 7am. The dr wasnt supposed to be in but considering the size and location of her tumor wanted it done immediately. So she underwent the surgery and everything including Kaylin went well. When the dr came out to talk to us after surgery, he told us the tumor was about 2 lbs in weight and even showed us a picture of it. In my worst nightmares I could never imagine this would be happening. We were devastated. Everyone kept telling us kids are so resilient and not to worry, but that didnt ease the reality of anything that was now happening in our lives. Kaylin indeed was resilient even getting up out of bed 2 hours after surgery to use the bathroom. They put her in the PICU for the night to monitor her, and all the nurses kept saying how fiesty a little girl she was. WE KNOW!! She was back to her old self and typical 3 year old in no time flat. She started chemo and had to undergo close to 6 months of it. She had her final chemo treatment on the 15th of February and seems to be doing extremely well. She goes to the surgeon now to have her port removed, and will be monitored closely every 3 months with ultrasound and xray. I cannot tell you how happy I am the chemo is over at this point!!!

Madison - (7 months) Madison was born August 2, 2009 at 1:16am. My pregnancy was a normal one as with Kaylin. I only had one bout of major back labor less then a week before she was born. Other then that no complaints. My labor with her was also rather easy. Really didnt need to push much, she kindda decided to just pop out. lol She weighed 7lbs 1oz at birth. We absolutely adored her, and Kaylin was so excited to have a new baby sister. All she wanted to do was be a little mommy to her. Luckily she has been a very happy and calm baby. We really needed that with everything that went on with our lives in late September.

We are thinking of going to Disney on Kaylin's wish trip sometime late September Early October (before the Columbus Day holiday - to hopefully avoid big crowds) We are also hoping to take her to the MNSSHP. We have not yet picked specific dates as we will have family coming along on their own dime. The wish grantor we are going with Dream Come True, told us we cant plan anything until 6 months prior to our departure, but I just hope I can wait that long.... :goodvibes

I saw you posted your PTR on the Wish Trippers thread. Reading Kaylin's story is just like reading and reliving my daughter Juliana's story. It is almost exact!

I am so happy Kaylin is doing well and that last treatment is a BIG step!!! Kids can put up with more and bounce back faster than adults. The next step for her is to get that port out! What is the time frame they gave you? End of March?

I'll be here to shed some light on any questions you have as we have been to Disney a few times in the last 2 years. Juliana also has her Wish trip coming up- most likely in December.

Your link isn't working- there is an extra http:// in there. Take that out and you should be good to go!

What a great family you have. I guess I never knew the value of a well-check until reading stories like yours and Tim's. With my special needs daughter we were already consulting specialists in the NICU, so the ped felt kind of extraneous. I can see why they are so important now!!!

How fun to go for MNSSHP. I hope you can hold out that long too.

Welcome :-) You have a beautiful Family. I can't wait to read more. We are also getting a wish.. just waiting on the daes.

Welcome!!! Your girls are beautiful! princess:princess:

So glad to hear that Kaylin is doing well!!!

Blessings to you and yours and your trip!!!

She had appointment this afternoon with the surgeon to discuss the port removal. She has an xray and ultrasound March 9th so they are looking at removing March 15th. Its kind of amazing how quickly they want to remove the port. Im glad, but its just like k, done with treatment bam out comes port. Then again it was put in rather quickly too, without anytime to comprehend what was going on. How is your daughter doing? What a pretty name, Juliana.

That is great news. :goodvibes I think Juliana's port came out 1 month after her last chemo. That port is a direct line to their heart and due to the possibility of infection, they want to get it out as quickly as they can. It is almost like that port is the last tie to the cancer. I'm so glad to heat your DD is doing so well!!!!

Juliana is doing very well. Her last treatment was Aug. 13, 2007. She just had her 3 month scans and bloodwork 2 Monday's ago. Everything is good and we will continue to go every 3 months for the time being. :goodvibes

Hooray, so glad you started a PTR..the girls are so beautiful, and I'm glad everything has come out so well for your family! Looking forward to following along :goodvibes:

As the mother of another CK (cancer kid), I just wanted to welcome you to the group! Your family is beautiful, and I can't wait to hear about your plans. I am so happy to hear that Kaylin is finished with her chemo! (My daughter, Elke (3) was dxed with leukemia in 11/08 and will be on treatment until 2/2011). What a wonderful, wonderful milestone, and a fabulous thing to be able to celebrate with a wish trip! And without a port, you won't have to be running to the ER every time she gets a fever! Yay!!!

We are going to GKTW on 4/17, so after we get back, I can give you some planning tips. We actually have been to MNSSHP before -- with our older two daughters a number of years ago -- it was a blast!

Just found you! Off to a wonderful start!! I am glad that Kaylin is doing well now and that the port will be comming out soon!!! Can't wait to hear more about your plans!

Oh my goodness, your daughters are so adorable!!!! :cutie::cutie: Kaylin has the most beautiful curls I've ever seen! I'm so glad that she's doing so well !! My heart was breaking reading your story, I couldn't imagine what you and your family were going through and I hope and pray I never have too.

I also have a 3 year old little girl. ((she was a bald baby just like Madison)) She didn't start growing hair until she was 2 1/2. And I also have a new "bald" baby boy. :) I'm so excited to be taking them to disney in a couple of weeks.

Well, I can't wait to read more ...... bless you, and your beautiful family.

I am in!

I will put a link to your Pre Trippie on the Wish Trippers thread, too! But it looks like a lot of folks have found ya! :)

Thank you everyone for the kind words. I cannot wait to share our planning and everything with you. I also look forward to getting to know you all. I have been reading a bunch of trip reports and am very touched by the many I have been reading. It is amazing how such a life expierence this has been. While not exactly a happy one, it has really put alot of things in perpspective for us. I read these TR and PTR and I sit here crying, and smiling through tears and i dont know these people, but through reading them, I feel I do. I am thankful that while this isnt a 'counseling & grieving' board, I know there are others out there in similar situations to talk to. I truely believe in the power of prayer and after reading some of the TR I believe even more if that is possible.

Kaylin has her surgery tomorrow morning to get her port removed. We need to be there at 630am  We are praying everything goes smoothly and cant wait for tomorrow to be over. Her last scans of u/s and xray have come back clean for which we are very thankful!!

As for our Wish trip, we think we have come up with dates we want to go and have decided on also adding a few days on-site at *fingers crossed* Animal Kingdom. We'll see if that plans out, depends on cost. We are looking to go week of October 10th. And im kind of concerned about it being Columbus Day week with crowds, but in order for other family to go and still make halloween we were limited on weeks...But I was wondering if at GKTW we can arrive in the middle of the week or must we begin on a weekend? We will have my parents traveling with us (at their cost of course) and we were thinking if we could go down maybe the 6th or 7th of Oct. My parents would come down on the 10th, but we would end the trip with them on our return home if that makes sense. We figure they cant stay with us at GKTW, but could visit there, it would be easier to end the trip on property with them, then have them come down in the beginning and have to part ways half way through.

Woo Hoo on the Port Removal! That is a GREAT sign!! I know you guys will be glad to have that be over!

As far as the Oct portion of your trip - your plan sounds good - to do down a few days early and let your parents meet you.

If you don't have more than 7 people already staying in your GKTW villa, then they will likely allow them to bunk with you guys (as long as you don't go over the 7 people limit). But they won't pay for tickets and such. And they may ask them to pay $1.00 for each meal they eat at GKTW to help defray any cost to GKTW in food.

But I love the idea of you guys staying at the AKL! Make sure you tell them you are celebrating your Make a Wish trip when you call! :)

We'll be keeping you in our thoughts tomorrow!

As for arriving mid-week, yes, you can. People arrive every day! We arrived on a Tuesday and left on a Monday! As long as you only have 4 people in your villa right now, your parents COULD stay with you! :goodvibes: Check with your wish granters..they would pay for their own park tickets, and I think just a dollar a meal! The only sticky bit I could see is that they're arriving after you, but I really don't think it should be a problem. If you check out the GKTW website, and look at the section for wish granting agencies, there's more details! Definitely something to look into. :)
