Hey guys,

Just wanted to share a story with you all about DS4's time with Mickey and Minnie last November.

It was his second time to see them up close and in person... the first time he was just a year old and didn't really understand.

We were waiting at the Judges Tent to see them. We weren't sure if he would recognize them or be scared. All I knew was if he was okay, I wanted to get a picture without his walker as I knew he wouldn't be something he would always have. I thought it would look award in the picture and wasn't sure Mickey and Minnie would know what to do with it. So, I told the CM to set it over to the side.

DS can hear and understand everything we say to him but does not speak many words. He uses sign language for most communication. DH was doing the sign for Mickey Mouse to our son as we were next in line to see them. Mickey saw this and stopped what he was doing with his current family and came over to DS and started signing! He and Minnie were all into it... DS loved it! They spent a good 5 minutes communicating with him and taking pictures. Towards the end I was getting anxious and thought we had spent enough time and probably needed to let the next family go. Minnie "told" me to wait... and wanted to put DS's walker in the picture. She knew what to do with it and where to pose. You could tell they were so proud of him.

I didn't realize what had happened until we were walking out. I cried for a good 15min... thought that was the most magical moment for not only DS but myself. When we got home I was so thrilled to see the photographer had gotten a picture of Minnie signing "friend" with Enzo between her and Mickey.

Love it!! Love stories like this!!
He is adorable and the pictures are sooooo cute!!!

We had a similar experience at the Character Spot at Epcot a few years ago.
We were about 12 familes back in line when the CM seen my son. She stopped the line and went to talk to Mickey. Went we got close enough, Mickey came over and waved to my son, who was so excited - I helped him from his chair and Mickey took his hand and helped him walk over for pictures and spent what seemed an eternity just hamming it up with him. Then he walked him to Minnie and posed with them and then they walked him to Chip and Dale and they all posed and so on down the line. I cried like a baby for 10 minutes that they were so kind to him. When we got home and got our photpass pictures, we had over 75 pictures from just that time alone.

You just gotta love that Disney magic!

OMG!! I just cried my eyes out. How very magical. I tell you; no one does it like Disney. So glad you had such a special time.

Aww, I love it! They just know what to do with our little guys.
Yes... me too, cried like a baby... and still do when I think of that special time.

It makes me sad when I hear of families going to Disney for the first time and not having fun... saying they'll never go back and that they don't understand what the hype is all about.

Those kinds of families just need to take a deep breath and take it slow... notice the small stuff and soak in the magic.

I don't think a child requires special needs to have a magical moment.... but Disney sure does know how to make our little ones feel loved.

Thanks so much for sharing your stories (and pics) ladies! Always love to hear great stories like that :)

That's why we keep going back! no one does it like Disney! so happy you got to feel "normal" for awhile.

Love love love the story! Dragged the whole family over to the computer to see the pictures and we are so happy you shared them with us! :lovestruc

Thanks for all the replies, you guys are so sweet!

We are going back to Disney in May.... DS will be 4 and walking without the walker. We are very excited for him as he's even more aware of characters and surroundings. Our only set back... his favorite ride last year was Barn Stormer... and from my understanding that's no longer there. Not sure what to try in replacement... but he did reach the high requirement for some of the bigger rides. He will probably love the Thunder Mount Rail Road (name/sp?). Any suggestions?:confused3 He didn't really care for the inside boat type rides, I guess they went to slow for him. DH was bummed that DS didn't care for HM or PC. We will try again this time and see what happens.

Beautiful stories!!!:love::love:I am so glad that they created special moments for your little ones.

I love watching people sign. The Grateful Dead used to have a Hearing Impaired Section and a woman would sign all the lyrics. I have spent many sets watching the words become alive.

So, I am curious, is there a specific sign for Mickey or do you spell his name out.

I didn't really understand how signs could help so many people. Even ones who could hear! It has really changed our lives and the quality of our communication with Enzo.

Here is a link to the sign for Mickey Mouse...

For the most part... you make the letter "C" with both hands and place them on top of your head like mouse ears. :earsboy:
