A love for Disney Sitting Portholes! Have you guys been on Norwegian Epic?

My family decided to try out the Norwegian Epic for our next cruise. And I thought about what I would like to spend my time doing, like I would on Disney. I remembered the lovely sitting portholes around the boat, that I am even guilty of falling asleep in. And I was wondering and HOPING, that the Norwegian Epic has sitting portholes also.

That should be easy to tell from ship pictures. The Disney portholes you're talking about are about 4ft in diameter and easily seen looking at the ship from the outside. From the Epic pics I've seen, I don't see any large round windows like that.

I'm not sure you can tell from the outside. While the Fantasy seemed to have those seats in just about all of the large portholes, the Magic only had seats in a few of the large portholes (like over by Fathoms and Keys but not along the main hallways). The Magic had lots of large portholes but most did not have seats in them.

We did the NCL Epic last Christmas. Didn't see any of porthole sitting areas on that ship.

Nope, nothing like that on the Epic. The Epic feels more like a building than a ship in design. DCL keeps to the classic cruise liners feel while NCL tends to go more for the trendy, non-boat look. If that makes sense.

Sorry I have no clue about the portholes, but there is one thing to be aware of on the Epic. Their bathroom set up is kind of ............ interesting. A lot of the rooms don't actually have a separate bathroom. The shower stall and toilet area are just sitting out in the middle of the room. Though I do believe the toilet has a glass enclosure, I once saw it described as going to the bathroom in a phone booth. Obviously a lot of people sail on that ship and don't mind them, but as you mentioned family in your original post, I thought I'd mention it. I'd be fine going with just my husband, but I think me stepping straight from the shower into the room would kind of freak out my 18 year old son. :scared1:. I believe the suites may have a traditional bathroom, but I'd do some research to see the bathroom layout of whatever room you are interested in if you've got kids sailing with you in the same stateroom.

I wouldn't say that they're sitting out in the middle of the room, it's not a traditional layout, but it's really not that bad. The doors are opaque, so you really only see shadows.

That said I'd still rather not share the room with someone I wasn't very well acquainted with. ;)

That's good to know! I've never been on the Epic, but was basing my post on a lot of complaints I read on Cruise Critic. (which we know are always 100% accurate!! o_O) As I said, my hubby and I, no problem - but I still think I'd be hesitant to book one of those rooms with our adult son. The Epic has some wonderful itineraries, though, so I'm often tempted to check it out.

The funniest part about the bathroom situation... my parents had a balcony room with the very open & not so private bathroom. Their room was for up to 4 or 5 passengers. However, my studio room, built for SOLO travelers had the normal, completely private bathroom??? So the family room, not big on privacy. The room for one...super private bathroom. :P:D It was very odd.

We were on the Epic in 2014. No comfy porthole seating and in fact, a lack of seating almost anywhere. Most of the places where you could sit were actually part of bars so you would be asked if you wanted a drink. We found the ship to be lacking in character (perhaps jaded by Disney) and the layout was confusing. And I'd say you could see more than shadows from the shower -- definitely pull the curtain across that part of the room if you have kids. The second bed is only useful for a child because of the way the 'wave' rooms curve -- too short for most adults.
