Just a quick opinion question. While I enjoyed my meals at Disney (well except Whispering Canyon.. not my cup of tea:sick:) I did notice there seemed to be A LOT of salt in the food almost everywhere. Most notably Via Napoli. My spaghetti and meatballs were very very salted.

Now, I like salt.. and I do salt my food. But I try not to use too much. Our waiter at Le Cellier said he couldn't stand eating anymore Disney food because of all the sodium.
When we went the time before this, I was dieting and had cut out most high sodium foods. I pretty much didn't pay attention to that while there. I came back 10 pounds heavier in 7 days. I lost eight of it in a week so it had to be water retention from the sodium.
So.. just thought I would check if anyone else notices how salty everything seems to be.:confused3:

Yes, there is a ton of sodium in Disney food. I have to double up on my water pills during trips to WDW, because if I don't, my ankles will get really swollen.

Sorry, to be honest I don't experience the same as above.

Haven't noticed any increased salt in any of the food while at WDW.
(well except for the salt crusted prime rib at LeCellier that is gone now)

We don't use any salt on the table at home - just whatever we might use in a recipe. But I never notice Disney food to be overly salted. I have heard others say that about Le Cellier, specifically a few times. But it's nothing I ever noticed.

My Dad used to joke that Disney made the food salty so you would be more thirsty throughout the day and buy more drinks.:rotfl:

I'm the same as vicki...I rarely add salt to my food unless its really bland. I've never found WDW food to be salty.

I do not use any salt in cooking, but I do salt my food at the table, a bit.
I have never felt the food at Disney was salty

We might notice a big difference because we follow a strict low sodium diet at home. I never salt our food and we only eat fresh veggies and lean meats. So, to us, the food at Disney is extremely salty and we definately feel the effects after the first day of meals there.

This isn't limited to wdw - almost every restaurant will have a good amount of salt in their foods - it enhances taste - they want you to leave thinking their food tasted great and aren't really concerned about spiking your blood pressure.

I think that could be a likely explanation - while we don't use much salt, we don't intentionally try to be low-sodium in our cooking - and if I leave DH in charge of dinner without any clear guidance, we can just as easily end up with Hamburger Helper on the table (eewww) so we probably are used to eating more salted foods more frequently than you would be. In any case, it's all so individual.

Thanks for the answers everybody. You're right, it likely is an individual taste thing as well.
The one stand out meal was the spaghetti like I mentioned. It wasn't inedible..but wow it was really salty.
I remember I couldn't have cared less about sodium before my diet and when I started paying attention to labels I was astounded at the sodium in some foods.
We still use it, but nothing like before, so there is a good chance that I pick up on it easier now.

I am thinking we may have the same issues. We cut most processed foods and I know it will be so different eating there for a week. I like to eat out but can see the difference between my healthy cook cooking and foods in restaurants. I am mostly concerned because I cut processed because of horrible migraines so I worry that I might have issues there from going back.

I didn't notice the food we ate to be too salty.

However, at one lunch at Pizzafari, out of 5 adult pizzas on the table, my aunt got one that was overwhelmingly salty. I took a bite, and it was as though I bit into the sea. Awful. They took it back, the CMs balked at a refund, and insisted on a replacement. So my aunt got an antipasto salad. Took a bite, again, disgustingly salty! I don't eat meat so I took a bite of the artichoke and just about gagged on the salt. Who salts an antipasto salad? Pizzafari, that day, it seems. Took it back and after much back and forth, they comped that entire check (aunt, her daughter and son in law and 2 grandkids), without us asking for that...all that anyone wanted was for my aunt to have a good meal OR to have HER meal refunded... They lost $50 when they only had to lose $10.

So even at the same table, you can get normal salt neals and then "the salt shaker opened while we made this one, they'll never notice" type of meal.

When we go to WDW we usually end up looking like different people by the end of the trip due to our bloated faces. LOL Seriously, both my husband and I have noticed this bloat which we chalk up to the added sodium since we eat a comparatively 'bland' natural diet a home.

I have never really noticed it in the food as I was eating it - however I also retain an amazing amount of water. It is always gone with in a few days to a week once we get home.

I use very little salt, (and only grey sea salt) so I've become very salt sensitive. I never eat any kind of process food at home. Fast food restaurants and places like Disney do use a lot of salt, plus lots of food additives to preserve the food longer.

We do drink a lot of fluid (soda and high energy drinks are the worst) and eat high sodium foods while on vacation and yes they will effect your body. I probably takes a week to rid your body of all the junk you've put into it on vacation. I try to eat more fresh fruit and drink more water when on vacation. It does help.

The one think I look forward to when I get home is a "home cooked meal" minus all the additives.

The last few trips we have noticed that alot of foods at the TS places are super salty..a few times we have had to send things back. One thing we know for sure is we will not visit any buffets for dinner except for Cape May Clambake because all the foods are so salty they are inedible.

I have certainly noticed a lot of salt too. It seems to be worse toward the end of our trip...maybe because I've had so much by then. This next trip, we are avoiding buffets and plan to tell the servers that we are on low-sodium diets. Hopefully this will minimize the amount of added salt.
