A lot of Newbies, how about the Oldbies?

Hey I'm an Oldbie! I just popped to see what was up after booking a long weekend at RPR for hubby and I's anniversary August 11. We usually go without the kids this time of year if we can find decent airfare.

I definately miss the old days with Spidey and Jodie and Motherfletcher and Flyfly and Prince Eric and everyone else too! We had some great posts going. :thumbsup2

Anyone going to be around the weekend of the 11th?

August 11th (1984) is our anniversary too! :thumbsup2 Great day to be married on.

We are usually there for our anniversary, but alas, not this year. We are waiting till Thanksgiving this year due to a large family reunion over at Disney.

We are August 13 - but close enough! Enjoy WDW, we are contemplating another trip soon with the kids to WDW before they grow out of it.

I guess there are quite a few oldbies still around! :dance3:

Ahh - great weekend though :goodvibes Happy Anniversary :cheer2:

We are the rebels of the family. Everybody else is staying at the Beach Club. Eight of us are enjoying our nice platinum suite at the Portofino  Our rental car and our two rooms with connecting parlor is still less expensive than it would be to stuff 8 people in two rooms at the BC.

Oh well. Our Disney relatives are trying to explain the "magic" and are working hard to convert us to come stay with them, but to no avail. We enjoy Disney, so we will drive over for the cousin's renewal of vows and reception and probably meet them there a couple of other times, but for the most part, we will be enjoying Universal :teeth:

It is great to see all the Oldbies checking in!

Hey Cool! :cool1: We will be at RPR too. Our plane lands about 3 on Friday and as soon as we are checked into our king suite, we will hightail over to Margaritaville. I'm not sure we will even make it to the parks that night! I'm so excited for our short trip. Now if I can just get over the guilt of leaving the puppy. :guilty:

We may just see you in Margaritaville! We will also be in a King suite. We will be visiting other parts of the state before we arrive, but we have to return our rental car to the Hertz desk at RPR by 2PM. Not sure what we will do first. My son will probably want to go to the pool. He is old enough to do that on his own. I think I will just see what my husband wants to do first and let him be my guide. I will just be so happy to be there that I will not really care what we do! :goodvibes

How are you getting from the airport to RPR?

We are using Tiffany as usual. I know what you mean about not caring what you do. I am the same way. We really just go with the flow and do whatever we feel like. How old is your son? I wish I knew what you looked like, I'm sure we will cross paths without even knowing it! We are leaving the kids home since it is our anniversary trip, they will be at the beach with my parents.

Are you requesting a certain suite? I always get stuck in a low king suite and have a view of the roof or foliage. I was thinking of emailing and requesting a high floor and letting them know it was our 12th anniversary. I don't really care that much, but it would be cool. Have a blast!

I have stayed in suite 3500 in the past and called to request it for this trip. When I called I was told that we were already assigned to that room. :thumbsup2 Good luck with your room assignment.

Our son is 13.

Hi highlander, good to have you back! Can't wait to read your TR!

Yes, Tonia, it is a year for us. :) Our anniversary is August 20th -- lots of August weddings on the board, eh?! We actually have off Labor Day week and plan to simply veg at the RPR and meander our way around the parks whenever the mood strikes us. Hope you all have a great trips. Sorry we'll miss you by about 2-3 weeks!

Hmm..I wonder if I should call or just wing it? What is the view of 3500? I think we were in that room too before. What phone number did you use when they told you what room you were assigned? Only a few more days!!!

Hey Jodie, Happy early Anniversary! I know you will have a blast and I will look forward to your trip report. Sing a song at the piano bar for me - "You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille...." LOL

OMG! Did I ever tell you that when I was little, I thought the next words to that song were "four hundred children and no crop in the field?!" I didn't hear the end of that as my family explained it was "four hungry, not hundred, Jodie. Duh!" :)

Happy anniversary to you! Have fun on your anniversary trip! I was going to try a suite this time, but Mike was insistant on club. He doesn't want to fix what ain't broken. :) Now, if we could just get platinum benefits to apply to club comps too ... funny that they don't. Club is cheaper than a suite, but I pleaded my case, and they wouldn't let me do it. We too, have problems getting sucky views when we book club. We always enjoy the lovely view of I4. Don't they know how important we both are and that we deserve better rooms? ;)

P.S. Even when the reservationist noted we'd be on our honeymoon, we still got the I4 view!

Welcome back. Highlander! It was great meeting you in real life.

LOL!! Either lyrics don't really change the meaning of the song - I'll sing your version next time.

I really want to try club at RPR, but after a yucky experience at HRH club, Steve doesn't want anything to do with it. And like you said, a suite is the price of a regular room for us with platinum. I personally think they may have a hard time renting out the king suites because of the three person occupancy limit. That is horrible about the view on your honeymoon, the king suites do have better views, but we always seem to get stuck low so all we see are trees.

My kids are driving me nuts - I can't wait for this (very short) weekend getaway!

Long time! Glad to see you around. So I'm jealous. You are going to the RPR??? I love that resort. We will be there in June of 07...if I can't get a fix sooner! :thumbsup2

Hi I recently emailed RPR as it was our wedding anniversary and we got a great room, turn down service and wine as gift :thumbsup2

Hey Spidey - great to hear from you. Yes, we are doing a short (Fri. - Mon.) for our anniversary. We were just talking about it and realized we have gone to Universal our last 3 anniversarys, so why break tradition. I love vacation with the kids, but it is so fun to have a weekend to ourselves in one of our favorite places. Hang in there, I don't think I could wait that long!

Yep, I'm phamton here and the other name on the Dibb. I try and stay more anonymous there.
