A little worried about our trip....

Wow - that's a bit rude, isn't it - damo was just answering your question and trying to help!
I think the OP read Damo's 'ask one of your children to do it' comment as being rude. I didn't read it that way, but I think one could see how someone might think it was meant rudely.

I saw no rudeness on damo's post

Damo is and has been a poster for eons and never a rude post from her

I read all threads daily but do not post in all of them

I try to give each poster the benefit of ? when I read something that can be taken as controversial

I never, until now, posted publicly when someone is being picked on.

Just my style of moderating

Let's use the pm system to me when you are concerned about a possible ugly post

I will deal with it

Cschaaf sorry to piggyback on your post
You were fine with your comment

All posters have the right to make a report by using the report button if you don't want to pm me

Either way, I will see it.

So because it's never taken you more than 10 minutes to check-in you're assuming this can't happen? And kiosks always work perfectly and never have lines? Good to know.

Umm....didn't you ask for feedback or thoughts? I was trying to reassure you, like most of the other posters here, that what your friend experienced isn't the norm.

Nah...I wasn't being rude. It just seems that if I can't get my computer to work, I just ask one of the kids and they figure it out. That's all I meant. I was trying to be slightly funny, not rude.

So the resort room key cards (with charging privileges) do not have park tickets coded into them like at Disney? Going in 4 weeks never been there...

No, thank goodness!

express passes HAVE to be done at the hotel

But do NOT require tickets, to be 100% clear (not that you weren't clear, goto, just piggybacking from what you said).

I think the OP is trusting their friends over people here. Over time she'll come to understand how very wrong that is LOL. I could write a book (a short book, but still, a book) about the weird things my friends have insisted are true at Uni and WDW and DL. And sometimes they were true at that moment, but they were exceptions and not rules, and should not be talked about in public LOL.

I think Phamton, who used to be a mod here and worked at Universal, said that there was an express pass machine at guest services at the parks in case people lost theirs. That was a few years back, not sure if it is still true.

Partially true

Guest services can issue a pass for a ride

And TM at ride sections can also issue the anytime ep for the ride

All depends on the issue and it is a call by the employee

I thought I saw them last month in guest services inside Studios. I'll check next week.

OP- Was it not you who asked the question "is this accurate information"? and Damo replied what her experience has been. Was that not what you were asking? For others experience? No need to be rude to Damo for replying to you. Don't ask questions on here if you're going to be so sensitive to the answers you receive.

OP - your friend's experience is somewhat true although 1.5hrs is not the norm. I can see how it can happen when u are new, frazzled, overwhelmed, wrangling kids, and dealing with moving from station to station to station.

It took us (we both work with computers all day) a little longer than I care to admit to get the Express Passes and I got a wee bit frazzled through the whole process (processing 4 people through and trying to do it quickly). I think it was because I was already a bit disoriented as I somehow could not find the giant Express Pass sign in the lobby. Yes the check in person said "go over there" with a general wave of the hand. I still missed the sign and we wandered for a minute looking lost. Its quite straightforward though and we sorted ourselves out quickly.

A lot of it is learning something new after u are used to how someone else has done it for a long time. It is a bit disorienting.

On our first morning at the park, my DH actually managed to forget our park tickets!! He was flabbergasted when I explained that they were not connected to our room key cards LOL!! (I had to walk aaaaalll the way back to our room - good thing we were staying at Hard Rock!)

I have to say - it did get a bit old juggling so many cards. A lanyard sure comes in useful at Universal.

Don't worry too much - these are just minor things, mostly the result of different ways of doing things. While WDW has our hearts, we had a fabulous time at Universal and those Express Pass perks are simply phenomenal. And those lockers ended up not being that big a deal. Sure its nice not to deal with them but it was manageable. (That said, one would think they would have learned from FJ and improved the locker situation at Gringotts. It was definitely better, but still an awful, hot, overcrowded, terrible room. Not a fun way to end the most amazing ride in all the parks).

Not to be OT, but with the mention of everyone having lanyards- do you have each child with their own lanyard vs keeping everyone's cards together? Just wondering if your party is together if there is still a benefit to having separate lanyards (i.e. Faster through express pass line).

They need to see each EP so it's MUCH easier for everyone to carry their own (you don't have to take it out of the clear holder for them to see one), then to keep them together and have to pull several out.

In dec we forgot to print EP at the hotel and they printed them for us at guest services at IOA.

We also stayed at Portofino Bay and it was lovely. Check in only took about 5 mins. We've never tried to charge back to the room though.

My kids have had their own lanyards every trip. (Had to remind them a few times which side to show in the beginning, but a lot faster than me carrying 5 people's cards.
Like someone else posted: park entrance ticket with barcode facing out on one side, express pass with picture & barcode facing out on the other side...everything else (like room key, credit card, what have you) sandwiched between those two.

For rides with Express pass (which is most of them), show the side with your express pass picture & a TM will scan it with a hand scanner through the plastic...easy peasy!

For the kiddos, I would also put in a business card sized piece of paper with parents names and cell numbers on there, just in case they got lost (thank the Lord we've never had that happen, but it can )

I also recommend getting a lanyard with a ziplock type closure to keep water out...much easier than ruining & replacing tickets.

They do that a lot for the hotel guests
Some lose their paper ep or the ep gets soaked on a water ride

And then you have those that forgot to make it at the hotel
Lol
