Hi everyone,
Something that is always an issue on a bulletin board is how appropriate certain things are for the bulletin board in question. There are unmoderated bulletin boards where almost anything goes. There are tightly moderated forums where one word out of line, and thats all there is to it. Then there are the bulletin boards where folks can say what they wish within reason, and there is a good mix of opinions available without getting out of hand. Thats what the atmosphere is here on the DIS. There are always going to be people who disagree or dont see the world through the same set of eyes as the other person sees it. Thats a great thing, and always feel free to show varied opinions.
Something to remember when posting here on the DIS is the language being used. Numerous people other than teens visit us here even if we dont even notice it. For example, a big source of the teen board population comes from the children, pre-teens, and teens of the adult community here on the DIS. The parents see the teen board as a global community where their child can talk to and interact with other pre-teens/teens from all over the country and the world. Should the language among other things become out of hand, the teen board can quickly lose its credibility. People will no longer see it as a happy and fun place to interact, but as a board where people do not play within the guidelines. Remember, just because a word or a variation of a word makes it through the boards language filter does not mean that it is appropriate. As said, even though we dont see it, the teen board is visited by numerous people in a day, and the nicer that it looks, the more the population will grow making a more positive experience for all involved.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact Jenn or I.
Thanks,
Daniel
