A little pixie dust happened to me at the Contemporary.

After a Disney cruise, I stayed at the Contemporary for three nights at the end of October so I could experience the Halloween party. When I checked in, the cast member gave me a room on the second floor of the wing. That is what I paid for. I politely asked to be on the first floor since I had an ECV and it is somewhat of a hassle to use the elevator. My brother and his family are waiting in line to check in after me.

Not only does the cast member, get me a room on the first floor, he up-grades my brother to the hospitality suite directly across the hall and they end up with this magnificant room plus a living room and full kitchen with two and a half bathrooms and and patio with lots of furniture directly across from the pool.

But for me that was not the best part - - my room had an automatic door opener. I cannot tell you how wonderful that was. I was able to drive in and out of the room without any hassle trying to hold the door open to get the ECV through. And when you are alone that is a big deal. My brother thought they hit the jackpot with the suite but I was much happier with the door opener.

Strange such a simple little thing can make such a big difference.

i glad to hear that way to go see small stuff like that really make the trip magical. did you go on the disney cruise and how was the transfer in the ecv if you dont mond sharing.

, that was very nice of him to do that!! I am glad that the automatic door opener was enough to make you feel like you were on . I can imagine what your DB and family must have felt too! Thanks for sharing!

Disney David, I did go on a Disney cruise, 4 days on the Wonder. But I did not take my ECV on the cruise. I thought that I could get by with just my rollator. Next time I will probably go with the ECV. I did meet a very nice man (at the life boat drill) who was using an ECV and spoke with him several times during the cruise. He was in a handicapped cabin and I was not. He was not having any trouble getting around or getting a shower. He did have a very compact ECV that he had rented especially for the cruise. My rollator did not fit through my cabin door, so I had to fold it up each time I went in or out the door. Also cabin was at the complete opposite end as where all the restaurants were so I did alot of walking and was pretty wiped out by the end of each day. Also getting in and out of the shower was tricky as I have some balance issues. I did not do any excursions and spent most of my of time on the very nice, padded lounge chairs outside on Deck 4, enjoying the sun and breeze and people watching or reading.

By the way, the man with the ECV and I were assigned to the same life boat station and when I first started talking with him, he immediately asked if I had MS. I was shocked, because I do not think it is so obvious but turns out that is what he had also so he recognized it.

it sounds like you had a great disney vacation in whole just asking about ecv for the bus because their a couple of people who asked before about the dme buses and figured it be nice to hear your experinces with the bus. Glad you had a great time.

I completely understand your feeling! I used an EVC on a solo trip a few weeks ago, and stayed at the Wilderness Lodge Villas. Getting in and out of the room's door by myself was always a major hassle.

The moral: no matter how carefully you plan, there WILL be surprises!
