I have been signed up to the Mailing Preference Service and Telephone Preference Service for quite a while now having been fed up with a constant pile of junk mail and cold calls etc. Both the above services seems to work very well and for ages we didn't get any junk mail and very few cold calls on the phone.

But now, most days we get two or three un-addresses letters from the post man - either just blank envelopes or with 'To The Occupier' on them!
It seems with the Royal Mails help companies have managed to get round the MPS!
I think I will start putting them back in the post box marked "Not known at this address" :)
Although I must ba careful not to put them in any street litter bins in the area ;) Our local council might fine me :rotfl2:

I'll moan with you ;) we signed up via BT to get the junk calls stoped and NOW we get them via Inda

aha those are probably 'walksort?' Its all very clever isn't it - make back some of the money lost through the MPS.

I like your idea of posting them back in the letter box ;) But I agree that it's not a good idea to put them in a public bin - wasn't that bloke that was fined £50? (even though they did let him off eventually!

We, too, signed up for the telephone preference service and all was pretty quiet - until recently

Lately the calls seem to have escalated - with most of them from Indian call centres! :confused3

I just register the name with the TPS everytime i get a call. They send you a letter saying they dont have much power to take anything further.

I am sure you can completely opt out of that type of mail Tim. Have you tried the Royal Mail site or is that what you signed up for?

I'm afraid I don't think you can as it is just added direct to the mail bag for every house in an area and, as its not personalised there would be no name and address to match against a 'do not mail' list.

Please don't knock the 'junk mail', it's a pain but it keeps postmen employed!
Including my other half.

I'm afraid I post junk mail back to other companies - in the free envelopes often provided - so the receiving company has to pay - that also keeps the postmen working!

and it did me! (pre kids) Though it was actually my job to try and make sure that it wasn't 'junk mail' to the people who received it ;)

I hand mind back to the post man
Luckly I see him most days

i send it back! i've worked for marketing companies and some, when they recieve mail marked "no longer at this address" WILL remove it from their systems...

plus, if you can make it cost the company some money... lol (obviously NOT if it's a charity!)
