Hey guys,

I haven't been posting much lately, but I have been watching... always watching (sorry couldn't help myself :lmao:).

So this year I am hoping (funds and schedule allowing) to do both the Goofy and the Space Coast full (in November), so I was trying to organize my training runs, and I have it all planned up till the space coast, but there is 6 weeks inbetween that and Goofy and I am not sure what I should do, training wise, during that period. I know I will need to recover, but I will also need to maintain. I also have a half during that period.

This is what I have so far; will this do me any good? (this is just my sunday long runs)

Week 1 Post SC - 6 miles
Week 2 - 1/2 marathon
Week 3 - 6 miles
Week 4 - 10 miles
Week 5 - 6 miles
Week 6 - Goofy

I know I should probably put in another 18+ but I know me and I just don't think I will have it in me after already doing a 20 + a full. I also am really prone to overuse injuries.

What do y'all think - will I be in OK shape for Goofy?

Also - I have a 1/2 planned the weekend before the Space coast, will this be too much for me?

Thanks for all your help - you all rock

Hey, the big thing will be the first week recovery, then a ramp up, then the goofy. Your plan looks pretty good for recovery. I did MCM last year before the marathon, and didnt put in a 20 mile run between Oct and January and did just fine. I'd say as long as you can comfortably do the half marathon in week 2 that should be plenty.

Keep in mind that all the fitness you got training for the SC will carry over for the next 6 weeks. As Matt said the most important thing will be the recovery that first week. The other thing I would do is stay flexible. If you have some niggling soreness in week 2 don't push too much to get in the miles. It is better to shave some miles off the front end (first 3 weeks) then push it and have to do it at the back end or, worse, make anything small into something big.

I would also ice the legs a lot that first week even if you don't feel like you need to.

Good luck.

I would be concerned about the half marathon in week 2. Be flexible and adapt to your body signals. You should be OK with this schedule. Depending on how hard you push in the half I would consider making the following weekend (#3) a 10-15 miler (for sanitiy's sake as much as fitness). Not 100% necessary physically but you will be looking for the mental knowledge that you are good to go.

Thanks for the advice guys :thumbsup2

I think I am just going to listen to my body and see how it goes. The only full I have under my belt is Goofy last year, and after I wasn't so much sore but just mentally wiped out for a good few weeks. Hopefully the SC won't take as much out of me, but I am sure it will be similar. The 1/2 is a local one that I can sign up for on the day, so I might hold onto my money and see how I feel after the SC. And if I don't feel up to lots of miles in week 2 put them into week three instead. :confused3

Anyways, I have to figure out how to pay for them first :teacher:

Thanks again guys

Kirsty

I was looking on line and Hal Higdon has plans for multiple marathons at http://www.halhigdon.com/marathon/multiple/Multiplemara.htm . With 6 weeks between he recommends

Week 1 1-2 hours
Week 2 12 Miles
Week 3 14 Miles
week 4 16 miles
Week 5 10 miles
Week 6 2nd marathon.

But, I agree with you that you should listen to your body.

Thanks :thumbsup2

That's not much of a taper is it? I think it would work if I was an uber fit athlete, but I break easy :scared1: less is always more for me. But it's good to know that there is a plan out there that involves multiples - it's lets me know I am not entirely crazy :lmao:

As long as you keep your base weekday mileage fairly strong, I think you'll be fine. I'd also recommend deciding which one of the two events, Goofy or SC, is going to be your primary focus. I ran the full in San Antonio in Nov last year before Goofy, and hardly tapered at all for it. I was much more focused on getting a really strong base for Goofy and not a PR in San Antonio, so that's where I put my focus. I think there was 7 or 8 weeks between the two, plenty of time for me to put in several 18-22 mile long runs before my taper for Goofy. With only 6 weeks, you can probably get one or two long runs if you feel like you need them.

Thanks John,

Goofy is deffinately my main race of the year - so that is where I am going to put most of my focus. I will use SC as a training type run (with the added benefit of bling :thumbsup2)
